I was at the hospital the other day in the waiting room for about 2 hours with a friend, and I noticed only one Awake magazine from 2000 in the pile of reading material.

I always thought that the Watchtower was trying to "preach the good news to all the inhabited earth BEFORE the end comes"

well , they don't like the internet, which is the # 1 way to inform people, you cannot get a subscription anymore unless someone at the hall does it for you or you are still attending, probaly why I didn't see any at the hospital, or lawyers office, or doctor's office etc etc etc.

It seems to me that they are trying to limit what info gets out to the outside world, is this not contradicting all they have preached the last 50 years.

NO subscriptions for anyone who might want one ?????????

NO new books, for anyone who is not a JW.

    what do you think ????????

and does any one know the current prices for a subscription ???

and what the watchtower/awake cost (or suggested donation) is now ???

    and new books ???

Maybe they don't want the outside world to know too much about them anymore like you said.

NO subscriptions for anyone who might want one ?????????

Maybe they are afraid that apostates will know too much about them and will tell the whole world what's really going on there.

I even had a hard time getting a copy of the watchtower the last time I set foot in a KH in Dec 2001.

They don't seem to print as many as before. They must be counting their pennies now.

I think it is information control. I think the internet is seen as an educational tool and they are aware of the damage that a good education can bring, which is why they limited schooling beyond high school for so long...

Maybe the drive for wills and trust funds and cash and jewelry and real estate property given to the corporation has been more profitable than literature production and distribution. The writing has always really been directed at the members anyway rather than the general public. I was often rather ashamed to be offering the literature produced by the corporation to the public as something non members might be interested in. Much of the literature was not appealing to me and I was a faithful member.

Hate to think how many magazines I "placed" that I had not read myself. The publishing corporation may feel that guaranteed sales of some 12 million for a first printing is an honorable number. That 12 million is just one to show and one to go and is just consumed by members themselves. What thinks you all? GaryB

I agree that the magazines are not as abundant as thay once were. I know that over the years I have placed more than I care to count. I still like to read them. Just think, all of that work, time, money and emotions ...gone and apparently wasted......

I was at the doctors office just recently, and had much fun writing on the cover to stay away from this cult, and that it destroys families. I wish I could find more of them.

I just assume to do that than throw them away. At least writing something on them gets people to think, even if just for a moment.

Maybe the writing department ran out of laxatives and are only able to squeeze out a reduced volume.

Um, to answer the original poster's questions

subscriptions are no longer available at any price.

All literature is on a donation basis.(hint, hint)

what do you mean about no books for non-members? They still place books at the door, just as they always have.
