Yeah, I know a few mental midgets: Charles Taze Russell, Joseph Rutherford, Nathan Knorr, Fred Franz.....
Brad
there was once an elder in our congregation, he and his wife were regular pioneers, of course.
and of course, they cleaned windows for a living.. they lived in the basement of a decades old building, in what amounted to a studio apartment.
i think the square footage was about 8. church mice could've loaned these two money.. of course, being a young jw and believing most of the malarkey you are told, you tend to look up to these men as spiritual giants, even though most of what they talk about is pure, unadulterated bullshit.. let me give you an example.. k* and d* always enjoyed their coffee.

well like i say, just got back from the memorial, have been going most years, but this year i went by chance (knew it was roughly at 7pm at the nearest kh) to my old congregation that i grew up in.
i didn't find the "evil" people spoke of here on this forum, or those too stupid to see.
all i did see was people i hadn't seen in years, and let me tell you, what lovely people they were.
Another thing that is amazing to me is how condescending and ignorant JW's tend to be when JUDGING others. Max Divergent and Donnie Drako prove this in their quotes.
It is TRULY HYPOCRITICAL of JW's to insult people who believe in war, when they are anxiously waiting (and have been for 120 years) for their interpretation of God to come down and KILL 6,000,000,000 people.

Wow scooby, I think you really have to deal with some issues in your life, dude.
One post you are saying that you are sorry for insulting anybody and the next minute you are lashing out at Maverick again, taking offence to something that you insinuate he meant.
I think the point that most people are making is that the individual people are not really jerks at the KH, the structure of it just causes them to do mean things they wouldn't normally do if they were separated from it. You, it seems, have proven that point very well. I'm sure you feel that you are not a sarcastic arrogant jerk, but your comments tend to prove otherwise. Go ahead and blame the organization like the rest of us. Once you do it will be the first step in realizing that you DO have an individual spirit, SEPARATE from the WTBS.
Trust me, IT IS better on the other side.
Brad
......those few men in their ivory tower in ny have taken it away.
we're not even allowed to think for ourselves.
what are your thoughts on this?
bikerchic (Katie) makes a very good point, and proves how the entire JW faith is based on hypocrisy!!
They expect you to have an open enough mind to ACCEPT "the truth" and then IMMEDIATELY shut off your mind and NEVER listen to any other beliefs/thoughts/opinions EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!
It is truly shocking to me that it took me so long to realize that!!!!!
Brad
for the last few years, my son has been thinking about what happens when you die.
it has caused many a nights lost sleep for him.
today he asked me (for the upteenth time) what i thought happens when you die.
eyebrow2,
I agree with zucker, that your son sounds pretty bright. I also think that you did a pretty good job of allowing him to keep an open mind. An open mind is a necessity to live a COMPLETE life.
I just started reading "The Celestine Prophecy", by James Redfield. I'm only in the third chapter, but it talks about how mankind has evolved in their spirituality over the milleniums past. It makes some very interesting comments. It certainly makes me realize, anyway, how the most pious and religious people seem to miss out on the amazing things going on in the universe and how energy is all tied together.

for those of you residing in the northern hemisphere, there's nothing more satisfying than the onset of spring.
this a.m., after working a long shift at work, i arrive home after 5 a.m., and it's pleasantly mild (i live in toronto) and the sky is partly cloudy.
the moon is no longer full, but still very bright.
Rayzorblade,
Thanks for the post. I've been in the process of going through a divorce, so the nasty winter we had was almost not noticed by me (too distracted with other stuff).
I live in London, Ontario and am making sure, however, that I DO notice the wonderful spring we are having.
Thanks for reminding me, Brad
i went down to a church around the corner for an easter egg hunt, this morning, with the kids.
i had never been to any other church before, but it was great fun for the kids.
before they had the hunt, there was a puppet show and some songs were sung.. i was impressed with the upbeat, positive atmosphere of everybody there.
They would have been taken back to be slaves. How do you think the Egyptians made the pyramids? You don't get much production out of dead slaves!!!
By the way, I don't suggest that keeping slaves is a fair and just thing to do, either, but right up until 150 years ago, it seemed OK to even theU.S. The Isrealites were also guilty of having slaves.

during the last two months i've tried and tried to rationalize the jw view that, since these "pagan holidays are not based upon the scriptures, they must not be practices by christians".
i've spent a lot of time thinking about this, and trying to come up with their motivation for these policies.
they can't think that celebrating will actually hurt, yet they obviously can't honestly think the practice goes against the bible.. i thought it might just be another "control" for them to place on the flock - and a way to differentiate themselves from other faiths.
No!!!

Without wishing to insult their good intentions, I still find it amazing at what is taught as being from God. The one song, (with slides to show the drama of the event) recreated the exodus from Egypt and the demise of the pursuing Pharoah and his armies, in the Red Sea.
Is it just me or does anybody else find it slightly disturbing that Christianity teaches little kids that their God does such things as kill all of the Egyptians' kids' daddies?
Don't get me wrong, I believe in instilling good morals in my kids, but to suggest that if they think someone else doesn't agree with them or their spiritual belief, that they don't deserve to live is odd.
Your opinions are appreciated. (And I won't even want to kill you if they differ from mine!!! )

the below message was e-mailed to a friend of mine who then sent it to me.

on the subject of jehovah's witnesses: they don't visit us anymore, they used to come by regularly.
Call it pride or call it smugness, it is still ARROGANCE for ANYBODY to suggest that their religion is better or more right or more.... blah, blah, blah....
I find it tremendously IRONIC that Christians believe that the Jews were the chosen people for centuries but lost that standing when they rejected Jesus, thus making Christianity the TRUE religion!!!!!!
It is equally IRONIC that the Jews reject Christianity so strongly, calling Jesus the greatest traitor to ever walk on this planet, thus proving that they are STILL the CHOSEN people.
Myself, I have a great amount of faith in HUMANS in general. We are well on our way to realizing that ALL religion is (I am still open-minded enough to use Rutherford's quotes when useful) a snare and a racket!!!!!!!
Oh!!!!!!! and by the way, I am absolutely NOT, in any way trying to recruit new people for my new religion, by making these comments!!!! Just in case anybody IS looking for a NEW FAITH, though, it is called: "The disorganized fellowship of non-denominational Bible students". Donations are greatly appreciated.
By the way, as far as the new religion goes, I have limited enrollment to just me, so no future self-satisfying requests by me, for your support will be requested.
