Roll playing at the assemblies run amok.

JWs do this a lot on Y!A. They chime in with a question like: I've been searching for God for so long but I don't understand the bible. Who will study the bible with me for free?

Wouldn't you know about a dozen JWs answer the plea for help, followed by much gratitude and praise from the questioner.

I don't know about anyone else but I was certainly fooled.

Did the GB ever receive new light without the passage of time forcing it upon them?

1914 did not bring the end they were hoping for so new light shone down from above and corrected their understanding.. 1925 also led to unfulfilled expectations and so new light was bestowed.. .

(i could go through all the dates and expectations... but i won't.).

what if the new light about 1914 being the year that christ returned was provided before 1914?

Magnum, the generation doctrine is the perfect example - I should have used it. They're still grappling with it and will continue for many years as time will eventually force yet more new light.

Even the new light on the identity of the F&DS did not just happen. I suspect it was due to too many "emotionally imbalanced" anointed people wanting to insert their spirit-directed thinking into the literature.

There was a watchtower article that said they can't be sure about what happens until the event actually occurs.

Simplified: We have no more insight than anyone else.

What if the new light about 1914 being the year that Christ returned was provided BEFORE 1914? Might that have provided some credibility to those claiming to be the mouthpiece of God? Is there any example in the bible where God let an operation error to go to his true servants until the passage of time required him to set matters straight?

An asteroid is coming in 2036

a friend of mine who is a astronomer told me a asteroid will hit the earth near ca in 2036. it will make a close pass by earth in 2029 and if it goes through a certain point he called a donut hole it will come back and get us in 2036. i asked him if it is big enough to cause problems?

he laugh and said it is extinction asteroid.

he went on to say the russians are already working on a plan to destroy it before in makes it here or try and change the course of it.

Well, my advice to young people would be that you need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Because all the evidence an astronomer friend of ADD indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in 2036. ... Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers . If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way toward its finish.

Relationship with Jehovah?

when you were a devout jw.

did you feel that you had an actual "relationship" with jehovah/god just from praying to him and reading the wt or bible?.

or that this was actually even possible deep down?.

Punk: ...but I don't believe a one way relationship works with an invisible, silent and seemingly indifferent creature.

... That isn't a relationship, that's more like shunning.

That realization is what ended prayer for me. Oh, I still believe God is up there, be He Jehovah, Jesus or both, and I have to think He cares somehow and will act someday. But I don't know how to make a relationship out of that. Being a JW taught me that all the emotion we wrap up in our worship to God is meaningless, empty, serves no purpose. I was deeply invested in the notion that what I was doing was pleasing to God, only to find out out it was all for squat.

I like this scripture, Zephaniah 2:3

Seek the Lord , all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands.
Seek righteousness, seek humility;
perhaps you will be sheltered
on the day of the Lord ’s anger.

I can figure out what His commands are from reading the bible. Not sure what righteousness is but I'm not going back to a church to find it. Hopefully it just means being a good, decent person. Humility is useful in many settings but not all. Nevertheless, I pursue it. I do all these things because I choose to be this person, not because it has been mandated.

Finally, "perhaps I will be sheltered on the day of the Lord's anger"??? What can be said to that? When He decides whether or not I'm a decent enough person to keep around and maybe decides to talk or interact in some way, then that's a basis for a relationship. Until then... we got nuth'n.
