Shunning - Not Just JWs
by Joe Grundy inhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjmg69xmjp8.
this is a documentary from louis theroux on his return visit to westboro baptist chutch - as wacky a bunch as you'll meet.
but not that different, imho, as jdubs.. i never was a dub, but i hope as a human that i can share their pain.. being entirely secular here, it seems to me that some of the young ladies in the film need to experience 'worldly' love,.

If God knows how we are wired, Why punish people for being gay?
by suavojr ini just finished reading this story on yahoo, two comments stick out and cannot comprehend why can't we just show true love and stop beign hurtful to our flesh and blood.
so yes, if god made us and knows how we are wired how can god kill a person for beign gay when they did not choose to be gay?
why the more religious a person is, the more fanatical?.

I guess I was ashamed of the JW religion...
by Jim_TX inwhen i was a kiddo growing up, i wasn't one of those that we all heard at assemblies giving their experiences... "here, let me show you the answer from the bible..." <reaching into their a** bringing out a bible>.
no, i would sit there in the audience, and think... that person has balls to do that.. when i went to grade school, i tried to keep as low of a profile as possible.
it was bad enough that i had to start the day by not saying the pledge of allegience like all the other school kids.

Jim, you described my childhood as well. I always dreaded back to school after Christmas......"what did you get for Christmas?" Or Monday morning hearing....."I saw you in my neighborhood wearing a tie and carrying a bookbag". I could hide pretty well, by the time I got to high school. Now that I think about it, I became a master of deceit.....I was also hiding the fact that I was gay.

Halloween 1970....Jekyll Island GA....in a convention center on the ocean. Looking out one set of windows, you're looking at the beach...the other set of windows you would see people arriving in costume for a Halloween party in another meeting room. Hard to keep focused. lol

For the most part, the elders in the congregation I grew up in, were very kind and loving men. As krejames mentioned, they deal with lots of things that they are just not equipped to handle. When I had my JC in 1980, the three brothers on the committee had known me since birth. Lots of history together....pioneered with one....was MS for several years. When I came out to them as gay, I could tell they had absolutely no idea how to proceed. At the time, they were late 40s to around 60. In my case, they continued on and on with questions that I thought were inappropriate. Many who, what, when, wheres........especially the "what" kind of questions. And because I confessed, with the objective of remaining in, I felt obligated to answer every question....demonstrating repentance. The most uncomfortable 2 hours of my life.....well, in the top ten anyway. My result was being df'd for 2+ years.
