If I was just leaving, the thing I'd probably look forward to most would be premarital sex!

anger triggers...
by zanex inthis last week some of my mother's family (my gma, gpa, uncle etc) got in contact with me.
they are all non borg and have been anti borg for as long as i can remember but for years i treated them like shit because i was "trained to" but now when i talk to them and hear that they are just normal people with normal lives and i feel very guilty for the way i once treated them.
they dont hold me responsible for any of those actions and always tell me that i am family no matter what.

Zanex,
I can totally relate to your feelings of anger. Although I was born and raised a JW, I never liked it, and stopped attending meetings at age 14.
23 years later, I realize that my parents (who are still JWs) were only doing what they thought was right. The organization did a good job of deceiving them and encouraging them to strip us of all the joys of childhood and exploit us like childhood slaves rendering marketing services (i.e. "going out in field service") for the benefit of a corporation. I no longer harbor any resentment towards my parents.
I harnessed that negative energy you're feeling to achieve personal and professional success. I still feel angry, now and then, but the best revenge is to live good and enjoy life.

train up a child...with a squeegee...
by wheelwithinwheel inwhile relaxing with my morning java at the local coffee joint i suddenly noticed window-washing equipment moving across the glassed surfaces of the restaurant.
yes, there was one of the local j-dubs hard at it.
the strange thing was the height of his helper ... about the height of an 8-year-old.

I wonder if anyone has any statistics on the performance of home schooled students on the SAT exam as well as the percentage of such students who were accepted and matriculated at reputable universities.

On a side note, when I tell people I used to be a Jehovah's Witness, they tell me that "the saddest thing about the JW kids is that they didn't get to celebrated holidays." I say, "no" it was being alienated from having a real social life.
Sadder yet is the rampant exploitation of children that is encouraged by the JWs and implemented by parents. The organization avails itself of free child labor by encouraging parents to require their kids to "go out in service." This despicable practice is only one of many inappropriate child-rearing tactics espoused by an organization interested solely in its own continued expansion and financial success, regardless of the human cost.

A big deficiency of home schooling is in the area of social development. Kids who aren't exposed to other kids their age in a social setting on a regular basis are being deprived of the development of an important skill, the ability to successfully interact socially with their peers. In the case of JWs, development of this skill is further impeded by their isolationist views of outsiders as "worldly" and "bad associations."
Furthermore, while there are certainly exceptions to the rule, the vast majority of parents are not fit to be teachers.

But I know of online sites, especially email, who will refuse information to Police for even people accused of serious crimes.
Naeblis,
They may refuse it, but once an easily obtained court order is issued for the production of such evidence, failure to comply results in contempt sanctions, up to and including incarceration. How many site operators are willing to go to jail for their principles in this regard?
The bottom line is, those who think it's ok to intentionally inflict harm upon others by disclosing the private details of others online without their consent deserve to be deactivated on this forum and also deserve whatever adverse legal consequences their conduct causes. If it happened to me, Simon's deactivation of the perpetrator's account on this forum would be the least of that person's worries.

thewiz,
Simon isn't a bully, he's a guy who performs a valuable service for many but has to take precautions to protect himself as well as others.
There is nothing unreasonable about prohibiting others from engaging in conduct which is likely to be detrimental to others and is also very likely to result in litigation or worse.
"Practice what you preach" The cited thread does not demonstrate any hypocrisy on Simon's part. Simon started this thread by announcing a prohibition against disclosure of other's personal information. In the thread you cited, he didn't disclose anyone's personal information. Threatening to disclose personal information is not equivalent to actually disclosing it, and, accordingly, your advice to Simon to "practice what you preach" is inapposite to the issue that is the subject of this thread.
If you have an axe to grind with Simon, why don't you just email him privately instead of whining like an old hag. Excuse my French, Simon, but we have a phrase for this in the States: "Boo fucking who!"

Thanks Simon!
I totally agree with your approach to this issue. There should be zero tolerance of those who post other's personal information as there is a real possibility and even a probability of adverse consequences to the person who has been exposed in this manner.
Additionally, those who publicly disclose the personal data of others might also consider the fact that such conduct could expose them to legal consequences, including, without limitation, civil liability for invasion of privacy.

Are Jw's the only ones with apostates....
by VioletAnai inwho viciously attack the teachings and beliefs of their resigned religion?.
i was thinking of this last night....i have never in my life seen a movement so big as the apostates against jw's..... no other religion has displayed this....usually people just quietly leave and get on with their lives and there is no anomosity...even if they have been wronged by their religion.... but with jw's it's different...it's an all out and out attack on anyone and everyone who has something positive to say.... makes me believe the bible and the jw's even more...being here is setting the doubt in my mind right....

Violet,
In response to your first post in this thread:
No other religion has displayed this....usually people just quietly leave and get on with their lives and there is no anomosity...even if they have been wronged by their religion...
Wronged is a very friendly way of describing what the Jehovah's Witness cult did to me, my family, and countless others. Encouraging parents to coerce their children into becoming marketing slaves for a corporation via the threat of severe beatings is a good basis for some animosity and resentment. Secondly, as I recall, thousands of hours of my precious childhood were stolen from me as a result of being forced to sit through extremely long, boring programming sessions (aka "meetings") in which the society burned the idea that life should be miserable into everyone's heads, using idiots to spew this nonsense from the podium. Thanks to the Society, JW children are denied the joy of holidays and meaningful relationships with non-believing family members. Finally, although I could go on and on, the pervasive use of inquisitions (i.e. judicial committees) into the personal lives of JWs and resulting disfellowshippings have destroyed many families and contributed to the higher than normal suicide rate experienced by those who have been exposed to the JW cult. You can blab all you want, but your bibble babble won't erase the damage the JW cult did to me and my family, nor will you erase the anger that I harbor against your cult. I feel very sorry for you, as one day you will realize the truth about the "truth," but, unfortunately, it will probably be too late to preempt the damage the "truth" will do to your life. Good luck to you, you're going to need it.
