I've had some very odd experiences that were really freaky but could nevertheless still be explained via natural phenomena and/or coincidence. They did not convince me that any of man's conceptions of the spiritual world are true, but they did open my mind to the possibility that some sort of energy is out there that is higher than all of us. So I went from being an atheist to an agnostic. I believe that there may be a higher power, but that man has no concept of what it is or anything else about it. But just because man is ignorant of it, does not mean that it does not exist. -

JW Threatened me with Violence Today :)
by cofty ini popped into the supermarket for a few things after work today and found myself walking up an aisle alongside a couple who used to be in my tuesday group.
i see them reasonably often and always say hello much to their obvious annoyance.
i noticed that ian was sporting a shaggy beard.

You have made the mistake of thinking I care about your opinion of me. Silly! . . . My sarcasm was for 144 001
You can lie to yourself, Cofty, but you don't fool me. You obviously care about the opinions of others on this forum, hence your need to boast about your efforts to provoke hostility with Jehovah's Witnesses. You were looking for someone to pat you on the back and say, "good job, Cofty. You showed those JWs!" Sorry to disappoint you.

Let's not assume everyone on the internet is American.
Good point, GrreatTeacher! Thank you for the reminder.

It's amusing that some people think I posted this because I wanted legal advice - especially advice from the former colonies.
It's amusing that you presume that providing legal advice was the motive for my post, when in reality the purpose of my post was to respond to your boasts of what I consider to be foolish conduct, notwithstanding my presence in the "former colonies" and your apparent status as the successor to the redcoats.

<<<<"It is their right to shun you.">>>>
[[[Of course it is. Let's use this forum to defend that right and the childish behavior that goes along with it rather than celebrate those who refuse to recognise the emotional and psychological abuse that is shunning.]]]
Passwordprotected, please provide a reference to anything I have said in "defense" of their right to shun. All of us have a Constitutional right to choose our associations, and shun or not shun others as we see fit. I acknowledged that right, but nothing in my post "defended" it.
While you apparently believe that provoking unnecessary conflict with JWs that leads to threats of violence is something that should be "celebrated," I happen to believe that this sort of conduct is counter-productive and does nothing good for anyone, while at the same time carrying legal risks. Since you've committed to the position that provoking unnecessary conflict with JWs is something that should be "celebrated," please explain to the forum what, if any, positive results can come from the approach you're advocating.

While their behavior is certainly despicable, it is their right to shun you. In this situation, you already knew that they desired to avoid any social interaction with you, yet you disregarded their wishes and imposed the interaction they sought to avoid upon them. What did you accomplish? Your words, although they are likely true, caused offense. Ian will never respect anything you say, and, notwithstanding his religious views/affiliations, he may indeed respond to future provocations with physical violence. Legal action could follow; either criminal charges or civil lawsuits. Is it worth it? Good luck to you. -

Legal action is expensive. Think of it this way; new car plus trip to Tahiti, or revenge on these dirtbags; your choice! -

Are There Good People Out There?
by LaurenM ineven though i'm no longer mentally a jw (i still technically am) i do recognize that there are some benefits to being raised one.
for example, the first (and only so far) wordly guy i was involved with had to smoke weed every day and got drunk all the time and that was his idea of fun.
i couldn't help but feel bad for him.

What da hell is wrong with partying? As long as you can keep your life in balance, there's nothing to be ashamed of, notwithstanding the expressions of condemnation communicated by those who lack experience. I was raised a JW as well. If you think there is an "up side" to being raised a JW, you're delusional. -

BORING!!!!! This religion is the antidote to the adverse side effect associated with Viagra use known as a "priapism." One dose and you're softer than a McDonald's local! In any event, the sights and smells of the kingdom hall are sufficient to cause psychological castration, if castration is one's objective.
