The Watchtower and the Masons
by ozziepost inthe latest edition of the free in christ ministries journal contains a very interesting article entitled the watchtower and masons.. drawing upon material from the book the watchtower & the masons by fritz springmeier, it gives the following parallels between the things that c t russell believed and those taught by the masons:.
* both believe jehovah is the most important word being the basis of their dogma, and the name of their god.
* both believe god yielded power to a lesser god.

Wow this is a very revealing thread. Just as witnesses are unable and both unwilling to think or consider anything that's outside their narrow radius of knowledge and experience many ex-witnesses are just as narrow, ignorant, prejudiced and suffer from self imposed blindness. This intellectual flippancy is just so sad to see, especially in here. But not really surprising. Ridiculing other peoples views, the biting sarcasm, insulting comments, attempts at humiliating individuals merely for having different views and an open mind is so quite dissapointing. Just an observation.

Probably the most bizarre encounter with a witness family.
by Dis-Member inwent to a bar with a friend a few days ago.. we were sitting in the outside garden and i went back inside to get another round.
on my way back out i passed some tables with a family of about 6 or 7 people sitting and celebrating a birthday.. i overheard the name jehovah mentioned and i stopped and asked if they were witnesses to which one of them replied 'yes'.. we got into conversation about the latest watchtowers and the governing body.
none of them had a clue what i was talking about.. they new nothing of the 8 men brooklyn being the faithful and discreet slave, nothing about c.t russell or rutherford, nothing of how jesus came and selected them as his chosen people in 1914-19, in fact the only thing they knew about 1914 was that that was when the first world war started, nothing about malawi and mexico, never heard of candace conti or any of the sex abuse scandals, nothing about the 2 witness rule, nothing about the elders being chosen by the holy spirit, nothing about 'new light', nothing about the orgs involvement with the un, nothing about the blood fractions changes they knew almost nothing at all about the majority of their own organisations core teachings.

AN INTERESTING THOUGHT EXPERIMENT
by Terry intriplets are born in a remote village in a third world country.. the parents are killed in a massacre and the children end up separated into three different orphanages.. through sheer circumstance each is adopted by deeply religious parents only to grow up, one as a jew, one as a muslim and one as an atheist in a christian family.. by means of an unaccountable coincidence, all three board the same airliner for a flight to los angeles.. the airliner encounters terrible weather and crash lands in the ocean while trying to make a landing at lax.. air sea rescue teams are able to save the lives of only three passengers.. yes--the triplets!.
injured and traumatized in the crash, they are transported to cedar-sinai hospital for medical treatment.. at some point in all the excitement and news coverage, some bright soul notices each of the injured survivors is identical in appearance.
an already extraordinary news event suddenly goes viral as investigation turns up all the known facts.. three families converge in the hospital waiting room and confront each other asking obvious questions and sorting things out for themselves.. within a week the three crash survivors are conscious and able to sit up.

Great brain teaser but quite easy to solve.
All 3 had been raised with very different nutritional habits in different parts of the world. It would be fairly easy with DNA testing to ascertain what diet each individual had lived on and in what part of the world then identification as to who was who would not be a problem.

They were totally ignorant of the societies changes and flip-flops.
It seemed that none of them read very much and certainly never researched anything online or off. None of this information seemed to matter in the slightest to any of them as they happily celebrated the birthday party. None of what I then spent a hour sharing seemed to matter in the slightest, it was still 'the truth'.
At one point 3 of them joined me and my friend in the bar garden and I was gob smacked to see 2 of them (both female adults) light up a joint and share it between themselves!! I asked them how they could be doing all this stuff as witnesses??
The reply was: 'It's ok we are not baptised'.
As far as they were concerned almost anything goes as long as you don't get baptised. You can quite happily be a witness with almost zero real knowledge of anything to do with the religion or it's history and do what ever you fancy as long as you have not been dunked in the pool.
Nothing surprises me any more about these folk!
They function and operate in a collective brain dead coma. Nothing it seems can or will wake them up from the 'zombie stroll' the org has duped them into.

Confessing Sins to Elders for forgiveness, Can Elders Forgive Sins?
by SanLuisObispoTruthSeeker inif i have a addiction to cocaine, gay-porn and rock-and-roll, where does the bible indicate i need to confess my sins to the elders instead of confessing my sins here and have members pray for me?
whose brain-child was this idea?
i would rather confess my sins to you because the elders are not known for keeping their mouths shut.

mindnumbed I think they use Matthew 18:18 to justify this.
“Truly I say to you, whatever things you may bind on earth will be things already bound in heaven, and whatever things you may loosen on earth will be things already loosened in heaven.
and James 5:14,15
Is there anyone sick among you? Let him call the elders of the congregation to him, and let them pray over him, applying oil to him in the name of Jehovah. And the prayer of faith will make the sick one well, and Jehovah will raise him up. Also, if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
These scriptures actually say nothing of confessing the details of sins to anyone.

Mac Book Pro with Retina or Dell XPS 15? (both with new Haswell processors)
by Simon ini've been in need of a new laptop for a long time.
no, i mean it - a really long time.
the old dell that we have has a floppy lid and is woefully underpowered although it does build up my upper body strength every time i pick it up.. the last 6 months has been a bad time to buy something new though with the haswell processors on the horizon promising better battery life and also screen technology seems to have been leaping ahead recently to a new hi-dpi standard.. so apple finally released their mac book pro and at the same time dell has released an xps 15 ultrabook which looks like a pretty good alternative and probably better 'value'.. pro's and con's?
