Would You Return To The Organization If You Were Given Total Amnesty?
by minimus inif you knew that the policy was that there would be no more witchhunts, no more disfellowshippings or shunning of any kind, would you be tempted to go back?
-
asleif_dufansdottir
Not only No, but Hell No. Did Hell freeze over and nobody told me??
First of all, I haven't done anything that I feel like I need to be given 'amnesty' for.
Second, if I had, I wouldn't want it from the WTBTS.
Third, they don't deserve 'amnesty' from me, because they have not repented from their support of child molestors or their ever changing ' K-Mart blue light special' doctrine, or any of the evil things they have done or caused to be done.

Do you believe the Governing Body represents the faithful and discreet slave and that the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation is the business God is using on earth today? If you say yes, you have to do as they say or be shunned. If you say no, you will be shunned.
Well, if I'm ever asked that I know how I plan to answer..."Not only do I know that the WTBTS Governing Body is not the faithful and discreet slave and is not the business God is using on earth today, their actions give me excellent reasonto believe they don't believe it either."
But I doubt that I'll be asked....

My husband became a JW after we married, so I know what it is like to be the "unbelieving wife" (a whole different ballgame than being an 'unbelieving husband, which are much more common).
Being the non-JW wife of a JW is hellish. Has he told you that JWs teach that the man is the woman's "husbandly owner"? Yes, really.
Run far and fast and don't look back. It doesn't matter how much you love him, or he loves you. Trust me on this.
My husband is no longer a JW. We've been married almost 22 years, but if he told me tomorrow that he was going back I'd divorce him immediately. Seriously. It's just not worth it. It's a life of pretty much unrelenting emotional pain...a whole lot like you described his recent behavior.

Don't buy a LitterMaid!!
by asleif_dufansdottir inok, this is kind of lame, but if i keep one person from wasting their money.... those of you who don't know about this, there is such a thing as a 'electric cat box' that scoops itself.
it's not that i'm lazy, but i have 3 cats, and i take pride in keeping cat smell down to zero or close to it.
most people actually comment when they come into my house, that they are amazed they can't smell a cat box.

asleif_dufansdottir is incorrect in my opinion. The automatic litter box works great. In my experience, the key is to buy a large grain clumping litter. The machine does not work well with clumping litter that is too fine. He is probably cheap and buys the crappy (lol) grocery store brand.
Yeah, I bought a cat box that was over $100 and was "too cheap" to buy the good litter? Nope. I bought the Littermaid brand. According to what I've read and the people I've talked to, the ones who really love their Littermaid either have one of the older types (apparently better quality), or have small cats. I read on the website of a different brand of automatic litter box, that they don't recommend their box for cats with diabetes, because of the large volume of urine produced by diabetic cats. Large cats, or diabetic cats, are more likely to pee enough to 'hit bottom' on the box and make the clumping litter stick to the bottom, which means you have to scoop manually. Those who have been lucky enough to get a Littermaid that works right really like them, and they're lucky...but from what I've seen (I used to show cats and have friends who foster kittens for humane societies all over the country, so I know lots of cat people), they are in the minority. Whoever said that about the wood litter - I've used Feline Pine and Aspen Supreme (the aspen one doesn't track as bad) for years and really liked it, just thought this would be even easier. I've gone back to that. BTW, I'm female, Irongland...

OK, this is kind of lame, but if I keep one person from wasting their money...
Those of you who don't know about this, there is such a thing as a 'electric cat box' that scoops itself. Yes, really. It's not that I'm lazy, but I have 3 cats, and I take pride in keeping cat smell down to zero or close to it. Most people actually comment when they come into my house, that they are amazed they can't smell a cat box. I'm paranoid about being one of those 'cat ladies' whose house stinks.
I wanted one of these for years. I thought it would be the ultimate luxury to have a clean litterbox without having to constantly clean it myself, so I broke down and spent the money (they are expensive) as a birthday present for myself.
I should have saved my money! What a piece of JUNK!! I did buy the "best, most expensive, hardest clumping" litter and still spent more time screwing with cat litter than I had before I bought this thing.
For clumping litter to work right, it has to be deep enough for the urine to form a ball *before* it hits bottom. The Littermaid isn't deep enough (I suppose because their motor burns out if litter is deep). The clump sticks to the bottom and you have to scrape it off manually. 2 or 3 times a day.
So I went out and bought the silicone spray like the manual recommended, to coat the bottom of the pan. That helped somewhat, but after a couple of days it was starting to stick again.
Then, tonight, SIX DAYS after I bought it, I came home to find the rake broken and lying sideways in the litter! One of the guides was snapped off. It won't work at all!
In the last 6 days I spent more time messing with the litter box than I'd spent in the year before that! And probably spent more money on the box than I spent for litter for a couple of years, too!
NOW, of course, I have read the consumer reports about all the problems with this product and how bad the company's customer service is. Apparently the older ones worked better, since there are people who say their first one worked for several years and they loved it.
I wish I'd saved my money!! I'm so ticked off that I wasted all that money, after wanting one of the #(&*$ things for years!

Jehovah's Witnesses / Apostate statistics.....
by ScoobySnax inok ok....don't bite at the "apostate" label.
but recently someone on here told me that disaffected/inactive/d/f jws now must out number jws as a whole.. i (funny enough) disagreed.
does anyone have proof otherwise?
-
asleif_dufansdottir
It's pretty logical that there CAN BE NO STATISTICS, since there is no organized group of, as you say, disaffected/inactive/d/f JWs.
The hell there can't.
All stats are, are numbers. Just because they haven't been compiled yet, doesn't matter. There doesn't have to be an organized group for there to be stats. I could have stats on the number of brown-haired people in Arizona who own more than 2 cats, there doesn't need to be a group to be able to count them.
I'd say you have 2 types of 'apostate' XJWs (as opposed to df or inactives who still believe all or part of it; or those who don't believe the WT, but think they're OK for some people)
- those who believe the WT is full of shit but don't go out of their way to warn people (but will warn people away if somebody mentions something)
- those who believe the WT is full of shit and actively work against them
Do you want to count those together or seperately? Do you want to add those who don't believe the WT anymore but don't really care that much one way or the other?
There are about 6.4 million JWs, according to their website (a padded number, we're all reasonably sure from conversations we've had about turning in fake numbers). There's a couple of different questions we could ask.
How many 'inactive' ones are there in the world (baptised but not da'd or df'd)? How many of these fit our 'apostate' guidelines? [this would include hubby and me...he's a type 1 above, I'm a type 2]
How many da'd and df'd people are there in the world? Remember, there are some 'repeaters' among these...some have been df'd more than once. How many of these fit our 'apostate' guidelines?
How many people (not da'd or df'd) used to be counted as JWs (by JWs) and are not any more? Remember, this includes unbaptised publishers (if I recall correctly) - underage kids and adults. How many people were unbaptised pubs as kids and then left when they were old enough? How many adults 'progressed' to the point of being an unbaptised publisher, but then got smart and quit before they were baptised? These are not in the rolls of the df'd or da'd. How many of these fit our 'apostate' guidelines?
The biggest number of XJWs would be those who, at one time, considered themselves JWs (whether or not they were pubs, or baptised...we all knew people who considered themselves JWs but were not by the cong, right?), but now do not consider themselves JWs, for whatever reason. How many of these fit our 'apostate' guidelines?
My guess is the number of "actively opposed" are much less than 6.4 mil (more's the pity), but the numbers of those who are opposed but not actively so are bigger, and those who don't care much about the WT anymore but would be shocked and horrified and would speak up if they knew about the pedophile issue or (to a lesser extent) the UN.
What I guess I'm trying to say, is that the numbers are out there, I just don't know how you'd go about getting them. I do, however, know that an absolute number of former JWs of each different type exists...we just don't know what the numbers are.
Side issue - What the WT is too dumb or too assured of their power to figure out, is that every time they 'tighten the rules' about associating with XJW family members (or something similar), it pisses people off who really had no reason to be opposed before (the quiet ones who just didn't believe but didn't much care). This is the biggest group of all. Every time they pull some stupid stunt to tighten their grip on the faithful or to 'weed out' the unfaithful, they just give some people reason to realize how the WT has been a bad thing in their lives, do an internet search (we all know where that leads), and do something, however small, to bring the WT down.

Remember the summer of 76? Apparently, it was the best year all round

Yes, I remember the summer of '76.
It being the Bicentennial, Cheerios had red, white a blue stickers in the box, and about everybody I knew had them plastered all over their notebooks, bikes, etc (for some reason, this has always stuck out in my mind).
We went on vacation in July of that year. While we were in Denver, visiting my Dad's brother, I got to see my first real, big fireworks display on the 4th (it was as impressive as the intro to the "Love, American Style" tv show!) at Lakeside amusement park.
I had grown up in a town of 800 and our fireworks display consisted of *pop* ...ooh...wait a minute...*pop*...ahh...wait a minute...*pop*...ohhh...wait a minute...
This had fireworks of all different types going off constantly. I was impressed!
I also smelled pot for the first time at that event. Dad's brother, the hippie, had to tell us what the smell was.

Loreena McKennitt (who is wonderful) did a song of this title.
You can hear a clip of the song here:
http://www.quinlanroad.com/sounds.html
Here are the words:
THE DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL (6:44)
Music by Loreena McKennitt. Words by St. John of the Cross and arranged and adapted by Loreena McKennittUpon a darkened night
the flame of love was burning in my breast
And by a lantern bright
I fled my house while all in quiet restShrouded by the night
And by the secret stair I quickly fled
The veil concealed my eyes
while all within lay quiet as the deadCHORUS
Oh night thou was my guide
of night more loving than the rising sun
Oh night that joined the lover
to the beloved one
transforming each of them into the otherUpon that misty night
in secrecy, beyond such mortal sight
Without a guide or light
than that which burned so deeply in my heart
That fire t'was led me on
and shone more bright than of the midday sun
To where he waited still
it was a place where no one else could come
CHORUSWithin my pounding heart
which kept itself entirely for him
He fell into his sleep
beneath the cedars all my love I gave
From o'er the fortress walls
the wind would his hair against his brow
And with its smoothest hand
caressed my every sense it would allowCHORUS
I lost myself to him
and laid my face upon my lover's breast
And care and grief grew dim
as in the morning's mist became the light
There they dimmed amongst the lilies fair
there they dimmed amongst the lilies fair
there they dimmed amongst the lilies fair
