When we started there were 3 elders in our hall and I think for a long time all we had was that and 1 ms! Then we went down to 2 elders! The PO was a bully and a jerk but the others were nice, compassionate, caring men, as individuals. The PO ran roughshod over them and everybody else, which negated anything the other 2 tried to do as loving men.

Did You Ever Have a GOOD Body of Elders?
by Warlock inwhen i came into the org.
in the early 1980's, we had a good body of elders.
they took the lead and cared for the sheep.. the oldest was in his mid- 70's, had a sharp mind, great sense of humor and was just plain cool.

CAT or DOG - Why?
by hamsterbait ini am amazed at the almost complete polarization between cat and dog lovers.. .
i know few who love both.. .
cat lovers argue that cats are more intelligent than dogs.

Both.
I slightly prefer cats.
That said, you get the pet you deserve.
If you get a dog but keep it locked in a pen in the back yard and never pay any attention to it, it's not gonna act like Lassie.
If you get a cat and expect it to be 'aloof and not care about people' and treat it that way, it won't pay much attention to you. If you have a cat and pay attention to it, interact with it, and listen when it tries to 'tell' you something, you will have a cat that your friends will tell you "acts like a dog".

You know, a couple of years ago when I started posting on this board, I remember saying that I thought that there were only 2 kinds of JWs left in the org:
1.-the ones whose whole life and family were so wrapped up in it they had no where else to go
2. the ones who only followed the rules when it was convenient for them, and ignored them when it wasn't.
(it occurs to me there may be a 3rd type - the power hungry who are rewarded by the org with petty kingdoms to run and people to bully)
Those of us who tried our damndest to toe the line and who got sick watching the rules get bent into a pretzel or just plain ignored, got burned out or just figured out "Jehovah's clean organization" and its rhetoric about keeping the congregation clean, was just a lie and got the heck out.

Firearms And Shooting...
by Justice-One ini thought i would open up a thread on firearms and shooting.
personally i was raised around firearms as my dad was not a jw.
some of my earliest memories are of my dad teaching me how to put a round in a fleas ass at 200 meters.

Two main reasons....one the Scientology controversy, (can I say that without getting sued by the Scientologists?) and two, Frontsight is being sued by its members at this time. I personally think Frontsight is gettting ready to implode.
WOW.
I've just heard about FS from people who've trained there in the past. I didn't know any of this! Of course, since I'm not in the position to be looking at training centers of that caliber (and cost) I haven't looked that hard.

I've told the story here before about being attacked by feral dogs along the San Carlos. We killed about half of them. (Which in my opinion was not enough by half) The other half headed back towards the reservation.
And, before poor TD gets accused of shooting someone's pets...I have had the opportunity to visit with Native Americans who live on more than one of AZ's reservations. Even those who live on the reservation are afraid of the feral dogs that roam there. They are known to be very dangerous. One man I talked to, said his brother spent several hours in a tree one night because a pack of feral dogs chased him. They do attack people. Children are not allowed out at night, in areas where they hunt.

Gunsite is not cheap,
Ah, yes, Gunsite...another benefit to living in AZ!
Of course, I can't afford to go there yet (if ever).
Why did you chose Gunsite over Frontsight (as they're in CA like you)?

Having a gun in a holster on your belt makes visitors nervous though, but they get used to it.
Not if they don't know it's there. That's what "concealed carry" is about. I prefer not to make guests or total strangers freak out.
