  What size jewelry was he using? Usually, small surface piercings through vascular tissue reject fairly easily, unless they're at least 12g. But bonus points to him for being brave enough to do his own work.

  He said 14g although he did have one at 12g at one time.

  It's not about being brave enough to do his own (he said the genital ones weren't bad at all (since they were just beneath the skin)...the nipple piercings were the hard ones! (he didn't have one of those neat attachments where the jewelry basically follows the needle through)...He's just too chickinsh*t to let someone else do it to him!

  For most male genital piercings the piercing is left in during sex.

  *Body piercing* jewelry, as opposed to regular *earrings*, has no sharp edges. They're either full circle or with a ball on each end.

  I can't sleep with 'regular' earrings in my ear lobes because the backings irritate behind my ears (I sleep mostly on my sides), but I can, and do, leave my body jewelry earrings in 24/7 (that, and I can't put the damned things on without help so I never take them off! ).

  For lots of genital piercings, the whole point is to have them in during sex. Consider it an extra 'bonus' for the female parter. Let's just say it rubs good spots if it's put in in the right location. (you do know this is why people get their tongues pierced, right? For oral sex)

  Hubby's genital piercings (all done by *himself* - they were all subcutaneous, no PA or anything remotely like that) have all migrated out, but they were nice while they lasted.

  By the 'same music', do you mean the John Williams score? I suppose most folks realize that in addition to Star Wars he did that one, Close Encounters, Jaws, ET, Raiders, etc.

  I also adore the four fanfares he wrote for the Olympics. The first one in particular makes the hair on my arms stand on end.

  Richie that is OUTSTANDING. I hope you see her again and I hope you tell her we're all rooting for her to get out!

  Edited to add: Where we lived before one of our dearest friends was a tat and piercing guy. We were over at their house one day when he came home from work and was so excited he just *had* to show us all his new Prince Albert (done by a friend of his who was visiting). Yes, I looked. And congratulated him.

  Piercers don't think much more about looking at and working on people's body parts (same or opposite) than medical professionals do, in my experience...

  OK, I admit it.

  Star Wars.

  (not because I'm a geek - it's orchestral, kiss my butt)

  I was in jr high when the original came out and I *wore out* that record.

  Just a few weeks ago, I got a chance to hear it LIVE for the first time, performed by the Phoenix Symphony (a major professional orchestra). It's AMAZING done by a live orchestra. I mean, I knew the music inside and out but I'd never *heard* and *felt* it that way before (physically and emotionally)...with a live orchestra you can actually feel the vibrations in your body coming from the instruments.

  Some of the audience (me included) were actually in tears for part of the concert. Most of us have so little experience with live music anymore, especially live orchestral music. I was in my college orchestra, so I know what it's like to be *in* the music and not just *in front* of it, but it had been YEARS and I'd forgotten

  They did a bunch of "movie themes" for this free concert in the park. the Phx Symphony actually owns the rights to the music from the Magnificent Seven, and they played that too...along with Indiana Jones, the William Tell (Lone Ranger), etc.

  If you ever get a chance to hear something like this DO IT.

  Tomorrow is my birthday and we're going to hear Pinchas Zuchermann play with the Symphony.

  i was listening to richard dawkin's talk at lynchburg va and he was tlaking about how horrible the god of the old testament was- and he mentioned this: .

  that when jeptha's daughter came out (and jeptha had promised god he'd sacrifice the first thing out of his house) that he had to sacrifice her as a burnt offering.

  Yeah, well, ANY version of the Bible has a lot invested in trying to make it look like some OT character didn't *really* do a human sacrifice...and God didn't *really* accept it! Especially after how the OT badmouths other groups for human sacrifice to 'false' Gods.

  My *personal* suspicion is that he really did kill her. But she wouldn't have been burnt alive. Hebrew sacrifices' (sheep, etc) throats were slit before they were burned.

  And, any OT character would "bewail" their virginity because it was through their decendants that they lived on (there being some debate about whether the OT Hebrews believed in eternal life for individuals). If she died a virgin, with no children to live on after her, she was really, truly dead. Plus, wasn't she *his* only child (so *he'd* never have decendants either)? That would have been a double sacrifice for him...

  I should ask some of my Jewish acquaintances how *they* interpret it. I'm taking an anthropology of religion class in the religious studies department...

  The WT Soc is actually stronger and longer lasting *because* they have replaced the normal "single leader" part of the cult definition with a mostly anonymous "Governing Body" that acts as a single unit.

  A single person (man, usually) is more likely to be brought down or uncovered as a fraud, especially if the cult is small and he's well known to most members. In addition, there *are* also "personality cults" within more established religions...churches where the congregation follows the preacher rather than the church.

  Notice after the first couple of leaders who were well known, the WT Soc quit using a figurehead leader in the same way.

  I'm currently in the middle of a graduate class in the anthropology of religion. We were talking about converts to evangelical religions (my professor works with Maya populations in southern Mexico) and the point about disenfranchised and powerless people (poor families, women) is the generally accepted answer for why people join.

  went to several concerts, opera and a ballet..

  just wondering if anyone else loves classical music or maybe modern incarnations like styles of vanessa mae, maxim mrvica, bond, amici and alike.
