JWZone: Does The Bible Promote Homophobia?
by SYN infor the first time in nearly a month (gasp) my browser found itself sauntering over to the confines of jwzone, and found this thread, which is at once laughable and despicable:.
http://www.jwzone.org/forums/showthread.php?s=422f24c2d92bfe8883ee94b06d723b18&threadid=7512.
here are some "highlights":.

And I suppose the Wiccans will protest next because the Bible says that "witches" should be terminated! - Exodus 22:18
Somebody should tell that poster that Wiccans are very well aware of that verse (there is lots of debate over whether the original term actually meant "poisoner") and don't like it ... well, don't like how fundies are likely to use it to justify their acts. The same with non-Wiccan witches. Witch and Wiccan are not synonymous, btw.

OUCH!! Found a wound.
by Nosferatu ini find this incredibly hard to believe.
i'm so worldly since even before i left the jws behind - i listen to bands like iron maiden, i smoke, i drink, i indulge in premarital sex, i cuss, i masturbate, i chat with apostates on the internet, i celebrate holidays, i love oral sex, i thought i had overcome all of the "fears" i used to have....... except one that i just realized today.. not so long ago, i was in a novelty shop with my fiance looking at all the cool trinkets, such as the "jesus action figure" which i got a kick out of.
we came across a rack of neat little keychains.

You're not alone being afraid of Oija boards...every fundy I've ever known, and most nominal Christians...and those who were raised by fundy or nominal Christians, are a curious mix of afraid and fascinated by them.
I always wondered why ghosts, or spirits, or evil spirits, could manipulate the board, but not manage to use anything else to communicate with us.

Rednecks - The Guts Of The Country
by Redneck in.
seen this on richmond va paper....i thought tied in with stinkypants post..but didn't wanna distract from it....opinions on the story?.

My husband - the one with the ponytail - is always saying "the long hair don't hide the red neck"
Although technically he is actually a subset of redneck known as the "long-haired country boy"
I think too many people confuse rednecks with white or trailer trash. There's a big difference. Whitetrash is ig-nernt an' hateful. Rednecks ain't.
My grandpa was a redneck. So is my uncle. Nothin' wrong with bein' a redneck.
If someone mentions "the sport of kings" and you immediately think of Richard Petty...you might be a redneck.

Venting.........uurrgghhh
by nightwarrior intoday nw and i were out shopping with our two youngest (14,15).. well i got chatting to someone, and then realised that a group of about 20 or so young people had gathered close by, and then the clapping and singing began, and then, each one would take centre stage to shout about the lord!!
fine, everyone is allowed freedom of speech.. the thing is, today i realised just how angry inside i am regarding all religion, because as i am stood chatting, my two kids are stood behind me, and were being spoken to by one the group, and so i was listening with half an ear, then begged to be excused, as i turned around and explained that really we as a family were jws for 30 odd years, and we have had enough of religion, so kindly back off.
i returned to chatting, and still this woman continued chatting to our daughter, who has been brought up to be polite, and not to be rude!!!

STILL this woman continued chatting to our daughter, who has been brought up to be polite, and not to be rude!!! Well, our daughter was then told that she was going to Hell, unless she repented and turned to Christ
Didja offer to send the woman there, herself, right then? I'd have been awfully tempted.
I know, I was brought up to be polite, too, in person but I'm getting over it in certain circumstances.

They got df'd because everybody and their dog knew they were crooks, it was all over the news, and it made the WT look bad. Not because they actually did something wrong.
Is the news media going to keep a close eye on them and see if and when procedures are started to reinstate them? Doubt it.
edited to add:
Yet another case of "Jehovah's holy spirit" having exceptionally questionable taste in elders.

SCARY field service experiences
by asleif_dufansdottir insheila mentioned on another thread that she'd been out in service and run across what was evidently a survivalist compound.
this reminded me of something the sister who studied with me told me.. our hall was "blessed" with a territory that included both rulo, ne (where 3 members of a religious/survivalist/paramilitary cult were tortured and murderd in 1985) and humboldt, ne (teena brandon - "girls don't cry").
i actually lived only a couple of miles from the place brandon was killed only a year before it happened (didn't know any of those involved).. the sister told me she'd been in service to the place by rulo and actually talked to michael ryan (the leader, now on death row).

Hve you ever gone door to door in ,"HASIDIM ",territory?
No...there were no Chassids in rural Nebraska No Jews that we were aware of.
But I was the secretary of a Chassidic synagogue after we left the JWs and moved to Omaha. This particular branch of Chassidim actually proselytize...to other Jews, moving to areas where there are Jewish communities but few keep the Levitical laws (are not orthodox). Advertising and trying to get them to do things such as keep kosher, keep Shabbat by lighting candles, and pray daily with tallis and teffilin, and keep the other 300-some-odd mitzvot. Very interesting experience!!

Top Ten Signs Your Congregation May Be Dying
by metatron innot necessarily in order of importance:.
number one: your theocratic ministry school had a "a", "b", and "c" school.
other clues: many of the elder's wives aren't even in it.

Fantastic list!
Nitpicky old me, however, must comment on the comment about nuns:
We'll give them some strange clothes as a symbol of their sacrifice.
Ummm, when the orders were founded (the middle ages) the full habits were actually variations on the normal dress of the time. They were just a bit simpler (no fancy embroidery, etc) and standardized...a bit like school uniforms today (although school uniforms aren't exactly normal dress anymore)

The sister told me she'd been in service to the place by Rulo and actually talked to Michael Ryan (the leader, now on death row). He told her how God communicated with him. Scared the crap out of her. Especially after the murders hit the news.
Nothing like living in the good old Heartland (my mom keeps insisting it's safer than Tempe!! ).
I wondered if anyone else had experiences to share. It's a wonder more JWs don't get murdered, when you think about it.

Mentally Preparing Myself for my Father's Sudden Death
by Nosferatu ini figured i'd share this story with you people, and it's ongoing.
when i was 19 years old, i had a girlfriend.
she was extremely helpful, encouraging me to stand up to the elders who were coming to talk to me about my meeting attendance, and my lack of field service reports.

My father-in-law once hid the new tires my husband had bought to put on our car (the farm shop had a complete tire shop in it, hubby was going to put the tires on himself) when he didn't want us to go somewhere once. He used to call my parents and my grandparents and bitch about how I didn't work hard enough. My family was just mortified. Grandma and grandpa both gave him an earful...he quit calling after I blew my top about ever upsetting my grandparents again.
We worked for him (he still owes us thousands he never paid...and of course there's no real record since it was a family farm ), and he was constantly saying, "Well, I gave you the money to (buy groceries, put gas in the car, pay the heating bill)" We never earned anything, according to him.
They had keys to our house and our car. Our house wasn't even in our name for years. He'd just walk in whenever he felt like it and start crabbing at hubby to "get out and get to work" - even when we were in bed!
And to think I put up with this sh*t for 10 years. The only good thing about our time as JWs was that it got us off the farm. Hubby's family hated us being JWS (which, in my opinion, was always why the passive-agressive little sh*t did it ). "Daddy" made some huge threat that we weren't 'allowed' to go to some assembly...and hubby decided he'd had enough and never went back. He'd always kept us just poor enough that we couldn't afford to leave (the lights and gas would be paid just in time to keep them shut off, money for groceries came only when we were out...it was always, "how much do you need" rather than "how much do I owe you?", we never had savings or insurance).
God, talk about bad memories!!!
