i was just thinking about some information i read on a animal rights website (peta.org) and decided i would get your feedback since you seem like a fair crowd.. do you think the majority of people in the u.s or in industrialized nations know about the horrible conditions that animals face everyday under the context of food production?

do you believe that if the conditions that animals faced were exposed on the tv screen as much as say long distance telephone service there would be as much consumption of animal products?

if you are a meet eater, ( i honestly don't mean to belittle you in anyway) why do you eat meat if you are aware that it's production causes extreme pain to other living things?

You should try your best to find this guy and make sure he does some time or pays some fines for this. There is no excuse for that kind of behavior. Contact PETA if you need help.

I wish it were that easy to where we could just regulate the meat industry and be done with it. The problem lies in the fact that people don't enforce those laws and don't prosecute violators. Then you end up seeing something like this http://www.peta.org/alert/automation/AlertItem.asp?id=699 where ten thousand hens are tossed into a wood grinder just because they couldn't be used any more. Now you would think that someone would be punished for this but with out PETA and others this kind of stuff would happen day in and day out, all happening without us knowing about it. The problem lies in the fact that we don't enough value on animal life in the first place. Consuming animals only aggravates the problem. I personally believe that if people knew, really saw what had to happen for them to have that burger they wouldn't eat it. But then it kind of boils down to the out of sight out of mind scenario.

"I eat meat because of the basic need for protein in the diet. I don't eat meat out of a general disdain or hatred for animals." Gopher

Are you aware that there are certain vegtables that provide the required amounts of protein for the human diet? And while it is true that animals do eat each other, they only do so because they have to. We have the choice of what our food can be. Hopefully our intellect will move us to help animals instead of killing them.

On a different note I was watching a movie recently called "The Hunted", with Benicio Del Toro and Tommy Lee Jones. When the main character played by Benicio Del Toro is under questioning, he retorts to the questions asked him- "Are you aware that six billion chickens are killed every year." What if a higher life form were to come down and slaughter us wholesale"? Basically the point was, just because we have the power to consume animals doesn't mean we should. No matter how hard one tries to regulate the industry there will still be mass suffering on the part of the animals.

looked a bit pale and not the same vibrant personality when i saw him give the xmas message.. there are rumours that he died at least ten years ago?

I wouldn't bet on the cardinals at the Vatican playing a weekend at Bernie's by flappin the old popes jaws but you never know!

Theft of Identity from the Borg

i had a thought for most of the ex-jws who spent most of their lives in the borg.

for those who left the borg, has anyone stopped and think, "who am i really supposed to be apart from the borg?".

have you ever wondered what your life would have been like if you had never been a jw?

I think I lost the "real me" when I was a little lad many years ago. He's probably still in here, buried deep down but I'll never be the person I should have been or be able to replace what was lost.

Simon I totally understand what you said. I think what you said was awsome.I feel the same way myself. I often wonder what I would have been like if I weren't raised as a jw, and I morn because I liked myself better when I wasn't totally controled by them. I try to work everyday to get back to what I was because I realize it was so much better. I

for the last few years, my son has been thinking about what happens when you die.

it has caused many a nights lost sleep for him.

today he asked me (for the upteenth time) what i thought happens when you die.

Is everyone bitter against JW's?

i have to post this question, because as i was trying so hard to talk to my husband about what i am learning and what others are saying, he is saying i am not doing this objectively at all, and only hearing things from bitter exjw's who are angry at the org for something.

i say this isn't true, i wasn't searching for answers due to a negative occurance in my life, and i don't believe everyone here was either.

he says i am only emotional about this, and trying to find reasons to prove all the things i have learned as wrong.

I hear this thing on the radio all the time. This guy starts talking about how the left hate america and such. They stage protests and oppose our presidents politics because they hate america. It's a lot of trash. I saw a good bumper sticker that said, I love my country, but hate my government. I like that. What people hate is the guys and gals at the top who inflict the pain on people around the world. People hate those shells of human beings because they are controling so much of what people do and think and live and die for. While in appears that I am way off topic I think the same hold true with the jw's. Most of us don't hate the individual members of the congerations. We dispise that so much of our time has been wasted serving men. We hate the fact that so many have died for nothing. You should have you husband read this post. He can't say we aren't civil. He can't say that we are all bitter. Good luck!

More extreme witnesses

a recent thread about "bad" music groups reminded me of when i was growing up.

my mom went through my record collection, and literally scratched with a nail all the "bad" songs on the record.

in some cases, i was lucky , fortunate to keep one or two songs on an album.. sure enough, years later, as a fan of music, i kept many old albums, and going through them i saw how many scratches were on the records.

I was also my worst enemy. I destroyed dozens of my cd's and games in a effort to get serious about da truth. Then I would buy them back becuase I loved them so much and destroyed them again when I tried to get back into being a perfect witness. I grew tired of being someone that wasn't me.
