Ex-JW Cyclists

it's a beautiful sunday morning here and i'm looking forward to the first above-freezing ride of the year.

i'm joining a bike club and taking some group rides that invariably fall on saturday and/or sunday mornings.

it's so nice to have these time slots back.

My hubby and I ride. I love it. We just bought new bikes last summer. In my area we have over a 100 miles of trails that are built on old railroad beds, and more are being planed, that will one day connect two major cities near where I live. It's great no traffic, mostly flat terrain, the scenery is beautiful, through beautiful forests, small towns, along rivers, farms. We see wild-life along the trails, beaver, deer, black bears, snakes (ugh). So far I haven't rode in any competition, maybe someday.

Gary, thanks for posting this, such a great article. That's what needs to be done, the Watchtower needs to be exposed for what it is. I'm so sorry you lost your wife in such a tragic way. My heart goes out to you. (((Hugs)))

Were you raised as a dub or did you convert?

i was a catholic all my life then in my early 30s i got baptized as a jw.

a friend of mine when in her 20s became a dub.

she always talked to me about the borg and troof and i listened.

I was a convert. Both my hubby and myself were Baptized at the same time (he's still a jw). I was just about to turn 20 and going to college but quit when I was Baptized. I was at a going through a very vulnerable time in my life, now 28 years later I'm still paying for it.

since some of you inquired... i have just come home from the hospital the dr said "you are a tough old bird -after he saw the xrays.

he knew i suffer a lot of pain anyway.

at least one act of kindness when you were active.

i mean i have been sitting here reading threads.

some are very depressing infact about the lack of love, acceptance, socialbility and such.

I had major surgery and every day for about a week different sisters took turns bringing meals over to my house. I was so grateful, my poor hubby can't cook at all.

When my Dad died, he was not a JW. Many brothers and sisters came to the viewing to give me support. Some brought over meals for my family members (also none JW's), which was a blessing, we had many family members from out-of-town.

TELL US YOUR LACK OF LOVE STORIES FOR THE LURKERS.

jesus said, "you will all know my followers by they're works".

in a recent thread that i made, which lie hurt you the most, most posters presented they're arguments, and pretty much all of them said that the "lack of love" was horrendous.

why don't you write out your lack of love stories so that the lurkers can visit and see what this destructive high-control-group (aka, cult) does to the emotional health of sheep who are sick and weak.

My family had I guess you could call it a string of back luck. First my hubby lost his job, he couldn't find another on and didn't have any marketable skills. He went back to school to learn a new trade (this was in the 80's and was frowned upon back then). So I went to work full time to make ends meet (again this was frowned upon). It was hard at the time my daughter was only three years old. I had a terrible time making meetings and going out in service. I worked long hours and worked about an hour from home. As a result of my weak performance, we all were pretty much shunned. It hurt, we were going through a rough time and basically shunned.

Then my Dad came down with cancer and eventually died. Then I became sick, had to have major surgery. My Mom had heart trouble, had to have major surgery. As a result of all this I had a hard time keeping up with my "spiritual obligations" (basically I was of no use to them). I was marked as spiritually weak and basically ignored. I felt like crap!

But what finally did it for me was when my daughter began having trouble and she decided that she didn't want to go to the meetings anymore, not one of those lovely Elders asked about her or even tried to help her. It was like she never existed, she was brought up in that congregation, so it's not like they didn't know who she was. That hurt me more than any of the treatment that I received.

I TOLD AN ELDERS WIFE OFF YESTERDAY!

just to give you a bit of background: i was diagnosed with uterine cancer a couple of years ago and had to have a hysterectomy.

naturally i got more support from all my worldly friends and co-workers than what i did from people at the hall, but am used to that by now.

anyway, a few days ago, someone from the hall told me that sister x (one of the elders wives who is a nosey, back-stabbing bitch) had been saying things about me like "she shouldn't have had a hysterectomy because that's showing disrespect for the reproductive organs that jehovah gave us" and that i apparently was "lacking in faith" by not "leaving it in jehovah's hand" and didn't i read that article in the botchtower or asleep!

Mary, so sorry you had to go through this surgery, then having to go through such ignorant, slanderous talk. I had the same surgery and like you, it saved my life.

Good for you for standing up to that snake of a person, how dare she stick her nose into someone's business like that. It made my blood boil just reading this.

This type of attitude that this person has makes me sick. I was thinking that since she is an Elders wife, she gets a measure of respect and people listen and follow her views on matters (monkey see, monkey do). If she is going around advising other sisters of her views on having a hysterectomy (or other medical procedures) using the Watchtower to back up her opinions, this can be very dangerous. What if poor "sister timid" or "sister spiritually weak" needs this surgery and actually follows this advice that this witch is giving out. They might look at this Elders wife as being "so much more spiritual and she knows more than me so she must be right". I feel this person is very dangerous. After what you did maybe, she will think twice before sticking her nose into matters that do not concern her.

Were You Ever Counseled For Your Attitude or Because You Didn't Measure Up?

one thing jws do, and especially elders, is counsel people.

everything is all about setting a person straight.

even bible students are conditioned to be counseled and to do the same toward any that ask them questions as to what they believe.

I was ignored. I should have been counseled, I was irregular in service. I wasn't worth their time. The funny thing is, if they would have shown some interest and encouragement, it would have helped me tremendously, I was one of those humble types. At the time, I felt so bad about myself, I thought why even bother. And now I'm here :-)

Tacoma Dome Parking Scandal

remember the tacoma dome parking scandal?.

it was reported a few years ago that the wt would charge witnesses for parking at the tacoma dome even though the contract with the dome stated that no parking charges were to be made.

of course the people in the kingdom halls were not told that, only reminded to be sure to pay for their parking!.

The DA assembly that we went to last year we didn't need a parking ticket to park our car . I questioned my hubby about this as to why we didn't need a ticket. He just told me that it was "suggested" that an extra donation be made for parking along with our regular donations that were made for the assembly expenses. Another words, just drop more money into the contribution boxes. All in the name of simplification :-)
