OMG, I can't believe people would call this place Apostate! That's so slanderous! We'd never do anything to defame or speak against the Watchtower, now would we?

No more unity?
by LoyalLeon indoes anybody here have a clue why the society did not simply publish a revised edition of united in worship of the only true god, but changed the title to worship the only true god?
is unity no more considered as important?
if a change of title seemed necessary, why not call it "united in worship"?.

Unity amongst Dubs is a myth anyway, the GB custom-designs policy for every country, in order to increase their bottom line.

JW's in hell?
by Preston inwhat do you think, if there is a hell, do you think jw's are going.
i know (because of my lifestyle) if there is a hell i have a good chance of going, although the idea of spending an eternity with god's supposed people doesn't sound too thrilling, in which case i better practice a life of celibacy.
i don't know what brought this post up, my friend just played me a clip from a south park episode where all the devout chrisitians go to hell, including jehovah's witnesses, and all the good mormons get spared (kinda funny in a strange sort of way).

Oh boy Preston, they really got to you, didn't they? I don't see any sulphurous pits anywhere, do you? Except maybe for the surface of Venus? But then again, the surface of Venus is hot enough to make lead melt, so your torment would be pretty short.

did I miss the point
by DanTheMan insometimes i wonder if the legalism and the authoritarianism in the wt have a purpose that i intuitively understood at first, and that somehow i've become blinded of the necessity of those things.. two things keep entering my mind - .
1. jesus likened his followers to sheep, and;.
2. the israelites got tired of the manna.. in leaving the wt, am i like the israelites who complained about the "contemptible bread"?

The big mistake most people make when signing their minds up for religion is to let some mythical entity handle all the dirty work. We humans need to start taking charge of our own destinies and paying less attention to fairy tales. Go hug a tree, then you will feel a true mystical force. Note: This post is not derogatory, I just feel that people with vexing issues like this don't spend enough time helping their fellow man!

MSN Messenger Compromised
by 2SYN injust forwarding an email i received to everyone on the board.
figured a lot of people here might find it interesting.. so many security specialists warned against im(instant messenger) security.
before.. this is one of the proof of concept code against sensitive im security,.

Well, their target market is huge. Surely with that many people involved they'd want to insure some degree of anonimity?
Grout: Yeah, I get maybe one interesting message per month from BT...it's frightfully boring, but I stay subscribed. You never know what'll happen I, too, use SSH for all critical communications, but sadly not many people know how to do that. Raw IP hacks are boring, I agree, but this one affects a BOATLOAD of people!

Hehe, yeah Xander. It really sucks that the MS engineers didn't run at least some sort of lame encryption on the stuff that Messenger transmits - I mean, come on! The tool presented above is just a more refined way of intercepting ONLY MSN Messenger-based traffic, not the whole SPEW! Apparently Carnivore searches for keywords too, like "bomb" "plane" and "Bush"!

Grout, go read Bugtraq and find the original email, then download the sample exploit, then have fun with your company network! It was mailed to me about an hour ago, so it should be close to the top.
Well, to be honest, I didn't try out the exploit myself for 2 reasons:
1. I don't have the neccessary adminastrators rights, and obviously I'm not allowed to run my NIC in "promiscuous" mode at work.
2. Although I haven't checked, there's an excellent chance that the tarball only contains source that'll build and run on a *NIX flavour, and I haven't currently got access to any form of *NIX at work, and the sheer grunt work of converting a big pile of networking code to work under NT would just break meYou may be right, but, more likely, this is a real exploit. I don't take stuff like this lightly!
