As dacke pointed out there are cases within the WT that swing both ways. I personally know of similar cases within the US. Back in the late 80's an entire congregation body of elders was removed because of thier failure to properly handle the case of a pediphile ministerial servant in the congregation. The pediphile was reported to the authorities and convicted and df'd. This of course was long before the silent lambs movement. Such actions by the WT could help them in their defense. The way the hiarchy runs- with each congregation being like a franchise of the org- each an independant entitiy that freely chooses to follow WT policy- may create the dismantling of local congregations or restructuring in the least. But the WT can prove that over the years they have taken action that supports their publicly stated policies in such cases. The other cases they will claim are where local bodies of elders failed to follow official policy. Not saying that this is true in the realistic sense- but I do beleive that this is how they will handle any suits in this regard. The locals will be the ones to pay the price for any WT blunders. The cases where they did act appropriately will be hightlighted to prove thier point. Regardless of what the WT legal department may have verbaly stated in directing local elders in such cases they will now turn on them and point to their printed material and their more positive cases.

Did you have a Superiority Complex?
by JH inwhen you were an active witness, you were led to believe that you were saved, and the rest of the world was doomed to die at armageddon, did this make you feel superior to non witnesses?
from that point, did you develop a superiority complex over them?
now that you are out, do the witnesses give you the look as if you are only bird feed?

Makes one wonder how the uneducated JW could fall into this group. Too bad that such puclic servants have such trends.

Look at it from another perspective. You or you son were wrongly identified as a murderer. Some circumstancial evidence was brought forth that made you look guilty. You had no way to prove where you were that night and when you were younger you did have a violant temper. On top of that you have no money. The prosecution puts on a better case than your public defender. You are convicted of a crime that you did not commit and you are facing death.
As you sit on death row appeals take place at the expense of the taxpayer and maybe a few legal aid socieites.
Unfortunately, I agree with the governor on this one. I support the death penalty. But too many have been released only days before thier execution after DNA or other late coming evidedence was brought forth. All the governor of IL is saying is let us work to tigten up the system before we go forward. He has made a bold but common sense move. The government allows for the taspayer to pay huge monies in automatic appeals for those sentenced to death- but for the most part does not allow for aid in DNA testing and other post- conviction investigations.
If it were you or your son that had been wrongfully convicted and sat on death row knowing that you or your child was not guilty- but did not have the resources to prove this in a broken system- you would support the governors bold move.

They never give up!!!!
by enjoy ini have been da'd for almost 20 years from a congregation in wa i was 18 at the time.
i wanted to leave but the elders would not let me drift away because i knew to many people who were jw's, they told me to either come to every meeting for a month, or they would da me, so i missed the next meeting and they anounced that i was da'd.
the sad thing is that no jw ever knew what happened they all thought that i da'd myself even my sister, but oh well!!!!

I must ask- 20 years later you are living across the country?? How would they know about you? It has only been a decade or so since I am out and I grew up only 100 miles from here and no one knows where I am- even though my mom is still an active JW whom I associate with. I have even run into JWs and had business dealings with some and religious discussions with some. I never let them know that I was once a JW. Havent been approached by an elder yet wanting to meet. Of course I do not and will not and have no reason to meet with them.
Signed "confused"= I left, glad of it, never have any 2nd doubts and care not to go back or discuss going back and question "WHY" would people that left ever care to meet with the elders?????

Reparations for slavery: Just or unjust?
by MYOHNSEPH inthere's such a broad range of perception on this board, i'm curious to know what you folks think of this issue.
are contemporary decendents of black slaves in the united states justified in asking for monetary reparation for their ancestors' bondage?
if you answer is in the affirmative, some related questions are:.

kelsey007
Thanks Lisa- I do not support reperations in general either- However, there are two sides to every coin. It amazes me how quickly such discussions can get ugly. Clearly there is still a lot of anger and some hatred in the good old USA. I do still stand by my original comments- ex-jws should, of all people, have more empathy in regards to such issues. Though I am not pro reperations I can see the other side of the issue. Though I am against the "war on Iraq" I would put money on the war moving ahead.
