Does anyone know the answer to this? has there ever been a successful lawsuit against the org? I've heard of many cases against them, but i'm curious to know if any have been successful.

What I Don't Miss at a District Convention
by simplesally inname the things you don't miss about going to a dc!
---getting there so early and then find that the "servants" have saved all the good seats
---not having time to make a decent lunch and getting admonished about not buying from nearby vendors.

I don't miss:
the young "just married" couples walking around holding hands
sloppy hogies and warm shasta ( i know that's been mentioned, but i feel it deserves another)
the toddler in the "nursing mothers only" bathroom getting spanked for "misbehaving" (for christ's sake, the poor kid is SICK from drinking warm milk in a stuffy auditorium!!)
the self important attendants telling me where to park, where to sit, where to fart
the mad rush for the door after the closing prayer (we all looked like stupid cattle)
the mad rush for newly released literature (again, we all looked like stupid cattle)
the mad rush for the flowers used to decorate the podium (we all looked like stupid cattle)
sitting in traffic afterward waiting for the parking idiot attendant to point you in the wrong direction
everyone walking by with noses in the air "righteously" and desparately trying to ignor the blaring megaphones of the *gasp*!!! APOSTATES. Parents yanking their children's arm if one of them turned to *gasp*!! look at them!

WooHoo I won!
by Lady Lee inwhen my contract was not renewed for my job i was a tad upset.
actually i was very upset.
not that they didn't renew the contract because the working conditions had become impossible but because of some of the crap that was going on.they didn't want to give me my termination notice (aka pink slip/record of employment) which i needed to be able to get unemployment insurance.

Have you ever had a "part" in an assembly?
by doodle-v inwell guys, i've been part of this discussion group for about two weeks and i must say it's been really fun!
i always look forward to reading everyone's thoughts on so many different topics.. i grew up in the troof, so needless to say it was a major part of my life.
my whole childhood was engulfed in meetings, field service, book study, bible study, watchtower study.

No parts at an assembly. However, I enjoyed the part I had in exiting the convention center when it was finally over

I was in a drama at a DC once. A talking (or should I say lip-sinking ?) part.
lol! I remember wanting to be in a drama set in bible times because i thought the costumes were so kewl. hehe
I hated it when they had a "modern day" drama- that always seemed so dull.

Well guys, I've been part of this discussion group for about two weeks and I must say it's been really fun! I always look forward to reading everyone's thoughts on so many different topics.
I grew up in the troof, so needless to say it was a major part of my life. My whole childhood was engulfed in meetings, field service, book study, bible study, watchtower study. and the occasional j-dub "gatherings"
I was thinking about one particular time when my family had a "part" in the assembly. It was the circuit assembly, and we had a part in a "demonstration" I was 13 yrs old at the time, so i dont exactly remember what the talk was about. It had to do with paying attention at the meeting or something along those lines. They had four rows of chairs on the podium and there were several other brothers and sisters, sitting there pretending that we were at a "meeting" we were to play the "good" family so we sat there and paid rapt attention. the other brothers and sisters that had a part would all play their roles as "bad" jw's pretending to talk, chew gum, sleep while the brother who gave the talk would comment- see what they are doing? what kind of example are they setting for interested ones that might be in attendance?
The audience got a kick out of it and applauded of course.
So what's my point? well I just remember thinking, as i was sitting up there, how it would have been much more fun to play the "bad" family! hehe
Have any of you given or been a part of a demonstration at an assembly? If so, what was it and what do you think about it now?

Why I hate the WTBTS
by Freedomrules in10. my family loves the org more than me.. 9. women are treated like dirt.
(where's that in the bible?).
8. constant talk of death as a child has warped me forever.

You're definately not alone. I grew up in the org and managed to sneak away two years ago. You've summed up how I've been feeling. Everytime I read their dogma presented as "wise and loving counsel from the faithful and discreet slave" it just makes me so angry. I just want to scream. They never "order" anyone to do anything. It's always in words like this
"Wouldnt it be wise, then, to heed the counsel from the loving christian elders?"
"This would be a disturbing blemish on one's reputation"
"Allowing fleshly desires and worldy thinking to creep into our minds could lead to serious wrongdoing"
"A sister in one congregation did (such and such)..... shouldn't we follow this fine example?"

Being "Smart" will not prevent one from following the WTS
by onacruse inthis weekend, while katie and i were at the beach, we both spent a little time reading coc (no, it wasn't a study lol ...i can honestly say that i did not favor the disfellowshipping decision made by the [governing] body.
for when the vote came i conformed to the majority decision.
i felt dismayed when the body assigned me to prepare mateiral in support of the decision, yet i accepted the assignment and wrote it as was desired by the body...my belief in the organization as god's only agency on earth caused me to do what i did at that time without particularly great qualms of conscience.. .

I sincerely believe that for a large majority of people, the initial message of the WTS was appealing to the emotions. We saw beautiful pictures of people living in paradise. They offer freedom from things we dislike such as "someday you will build your own, big beautiful home and you wont have to pay property taxes." We saw pictures of an abundance of food and the end of famine and war. Who, I would like to ask, would'nt desire those things? Their message that they bring to the door appealed to our senses. People in the org constantly talk about how they look forward to the earthly paradise, many expect to live through their "great tribulation". They REALLY WANT ALL THE TIME AND EFFORT THEY PUT IN NOT TO BE IN VAIN. They see themselves as martyrs suffering for a greater cause. I could go on... but I'm hope you understand the point I'm trying to make. How much education or how smart you believe you have is overwritten by desire for better things. I'll leave with this quote I just read today.
Does this sound like anyone you know?
From the book Combating Cult Mind Control (Ray Franz also quoted from this same book in In Search of Christian Freedom)
Another key aspect of thought control involves training members to block out any information which is critical to the group. A persons's typical defense mechanisms are twisted so they fefend the person's new identity against his old former identity. The first line of defense is denial ("What you say isn't happening at all")
Rationlization- (This is happening for a good reason)
Justification ("This is happening because it ought to be")
and Wishful Thinking ("I'd like it to be true so maybe it really is)
If information transmitted.... is perceived as an attack on either the leader, the doctrine or the group, a hostile wall goes up. Members are trained to disbelieve any criticism.
Loyalty and devotion are the most highly respected emotions of all... people are not allowed to talk to each other about anything critical of the leader, doctrine, or organization.
Members must spy on one another and report improper activities or comments to leaders. Most importantly, people are told to avoid contact with ex-members or critics.
