jehovah's witnesses certainly have some unique beliefs and some are very, very confusing.
anything that you never quite understood?
I find it frustrating and extremely illogical that in this day and age JW's still claim, dispite all medical evidence of the contrary, that blood tranfusions are the same thing as eating blood, and that when the scripture says "abstain" from blood, that it also means blood transfusions and donating blood.
Not only that, but the fact that they are willing to sacrifice their own lives and those of their children because of this misinterpretation of scripture is infuriating.

The Godfather
Braveheart
jesus showed the intended purpose of god's laws, when he worked on the sabath, avoided answering the tax question, forgave sinners that were commanded to be put to death by god's law, etc.
what jesus showed when he seemed to be offending god to fanatics was that saving life is more important that obedience to laws.
whatever god meant when he enjoined "abstinance from blood" to christians as belived by the wt, or when he commanded noah not to eat blood, and whatever the meaning is for people today of the laws that prevent the eating of blood and restricted the use of blood, certainly, based the way that jesus showed how god's laws should be applied, it makes sense that god did not mean that one should obey blood laws when eating or transfusing blood is the only means at hand to survive.
In former times thousands of youths died for putting God first. They are still doing it, only today the drama is played out in hospitals and courtrooms, with blood transfusions the issue.
*** Blood, Medecine, and the Law of God p.54 ***
[Note: not available on 1993/1995/1999 CD-ROM]They know that if they violate God's law on blood and the child dies in the process, they have endangered that child's opportunity for everlasting life in God's new world.

*** Blood, Medecine, and the Law of God p.55) ***
[Note: not available on 1993/1995/1999 CD-ROM]It may result in the immediate and very temporary prolongation of life, but that at the cost of eternal life for a dedicated Christian.
Sounds like coersion to me....

my jw brother came around to see me, and i drew the comparison that jw "mentality" was similar to that of kkk and nazi members.
although he didn't really let me explain why i thought that and stormed out.
since i didn't get a chance to discuss the differences between healthy groups and un-healthy groups, i wanted to get your input.
Welcome to the forum!
uhmm well, the KKK and Nazi's are violent extremist hate groups IMO, I really dont think JW's would qualify as such. JW's are a cult and pressure members to think alike and follow man made rules, but I would'nt compare them two those two organizations. I could understand why he would have been upset.

i am a lurker on the "witness world" witnesses-only website.
they are having a discussion because someone during door-to-door service confronted them with the un letter.
they are all saying that it is "obviously made up"... but the person is planning on writing to the society to ask.
It's amazing how quick they are to brand anything that depicts their book publishing company in a negative light as "apostate"
Thanks for posting this!

i just found out that the elders announced meia's and my disassociation at the service meeting this week.
they'd called me on monday and told me that they were going to; i fired off an appeal letter the next day, and hadn't heard anything, so i thought they might have postopned the announcement.
i just found out, however, that the meeting was held on monday this week because the other congregation had the co's visit.
