I just emailed Court TV

court tv is televising the longo trial, he was a disfellowshipped jw that killed his family in oregon last year.

i emailed them about my experience, my daughter completed suicide after the elders threatened to disfellowship her.

i also mentioned the bryant family murder suicides in oregon, the husband was disfellowshipped and in a desperate financial situation like longo about 18 months ago.. court tv excepts emails from viewers and sometimes airs them.

WTF? Is this odd or is American news reporting like this? I have noticed in TV movies how in cout cases the defence refurs to how the defendant is a 'church goer' like it makes a differance. I even get the impression that being 'good looking' is a line of defence in America. Am I wrong, or am I being naieve and it goes on here in UK as well? Curious on your thoughts.

some of my comments (and that of others) on other threads have highlighted a basic differance between those of us who belieave jesus christ did exist, and those of us who recon he did not.

i belieave jesus as described in the gospells did not exist.

so i decided to start a thread that adresses this issue face on.

I'm sorry to disagree, but all us here are X Jw's (I think) and yes, it makes you go mad, but come on! Murdering your family? I have no sympathy for him at all.

everyone knows that the saducees differed from the pharisees over the teaching of an afterlife(resurrection).

they also didnot accept the idea of angels, demons, and miraculous healings among other things.

Yes, I think a lot of lame puns, and urben myths used at the KH were not exclusive to the Jw's. Since leaving them I learned how many were used in other churches! Someboby must be exchanging notes with apoststes ! Pity they can't borrow more practicle sugggestions!

btw according to authorities the jewish prohibitions against homsexuality and bestiality were spawned in persia, not for moral reasons but because the male seed was seen as wasted.

When A Friend Lies....

i have a question for you - what do you do when you catch a "friend" in a lie.

i have a friend who i haven't known for a long time....and so far i have "caught" this person in 2 lies (no one on this board, or any board for that matter).

lies that weren't necessary.

Sorry to hear what you have had to experience Pettygrudger. Thing is 'Lyers' have this knack of making their 'victims' otherwise called 'friends' feel guilty and responsible for them. You've not given much away, probably with good reason, but I hate to give advice that seems harsh in the light of the true circumstances. I hope you have other more reliable friends, but, yes, fade away from lyers is probably best. You can't confront them, they just make you feel guilty for 'attacking' them. You can't just ignore it cause they's take more advantage of you next time, all that's left is to let them go. Better than just fade is run! A clean cut seems harsh, but it's what I wish I had done to the experiences I refured to.

What we know of most ancient people as individuals could fit on just a few pieces of paper. Thus it is misguided for the skeptic to complain that we know so little about the historical Jesus, and have so little recorded about Him in ancient pagan sources. Compared to most ancient people, we know quite a lot about Jesus, and have quite a lot recorded about Him!

I have to disagree with this conclusion. Most historical characters existance on our history have no alterior motives for being believed in. You also stated that not much has survived from the first century, when in actual fact, a lot has survived, yet not enough to substanciate Jesus's existance. The Gospels exist in their own circular reality separate to the rest of historical referance.

Your quote above uses all the devious tactics of a cult. Trivialising opposing views, sweeping statements, false analogy, I've run out of key words, but it has them.

On the Bible’s evidence, again this is another debate, but suffice to say that the canonical bible is doctored and bias, and compiled in the third century by a dubiously motivated politician.

I’ve already mentioned Josephus.

Tackitus was writing around 112 ce. He makes a glaring mistake when referring to Pilate. He calls him ‘procurator’ when Pilate was in fact a ‘Prefect’. This suggests that Tackitus was relating what he had heard, not what was official. It is the earliest reference there is, which is odd seeing as Jesus is purported to have caused such an impact in Judean society. 112 CE is plenty of time for an Urban Myth to gain momentum and be referred to by anyone who doesn’t check their origin.

Aside from that there are the Gnostic texts. Plenty of references to Jesus the Christ there. Only problem with them is they are paganistic fiction. Mmm. Now then, if the earliest texts in history refer to Christ being a fictitious, symbolic being, and only latter texts refer to Christ being a historical character in spite of there being no contemprary evidence for his existence, what is the logical conclusion to draw?
