  in the past year or so a local congregation has had several announcements that "so-and-so is no longer serving as an elder.".

  one of these elders has served in the watchtower organization since the 1940's.

  one thing apparent is the "organization's" lack of recognition and/or appreciation for its own.

  To clarify the point I am attempting to address, in both cases above there was no "wrong-doing" involved. The older brother has some fairly serious health issues, and the other brother needed more time for his own and extended family. To reiterate, both have been and still are exemplary brothers with no doubts about the Watchtower organization.

  You can see why the organization would not be eager to say anything too flowery about those removed for "wrong-doing", but I was trying to address why in the case of exemplary brothers something more warm compassionate could be stated from the podium, than the standard, rather cold announcement.

  One of these elders has served in the Watchtower organization since the 1940's.

  One thing apparent is the "organization's" lack of recognition and/or appreciation for its own. In any "worldly" enterprise this length of service is duly and heartily recognized. What would it hurt for the announcement to include something like this:

  "We appreciate Brother So-and-So's faithful service as an elder, teacher, and mentor in the world wide work and especially within the [Insert local Congregation Name] Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Let us all give a big hand for Brother So-and-So." [Applause.]

  It is simple human kindness, and more importantly, it costs nothing!

  Why then, is something like this not the current practice?

  Thank you for the additional information, Alan. I don't usually comment a bunch here, but in looking through Brother Carr's site noticed a certain similarity in style (and misspelling) with the "scholar" that posts here at JWD. You will notice the name of the website is Scholar Technological Institute of Research, Inc.

  As you pointed out, Brother Carr seems to be a "different" sort of JW. Try reading his complaint against his fellow brothers at http://www.stirinc.org/qjwb.htm under Question and Answer #1.

  Reformers repeat mistake....

  i'm reading a fascinating book, god's best seller, by brian moynahan.

  in it he documents how a few men like wycliff and tyndale risked their lives to make the bible available to the common people.

  the catholic church violently opposed these efforts and persecuted all who were involved in the translating, publishing and distributing the scriptures.

  Good points. It seems that all efforts to reform the Watchtower have resulted in the Society's counter-reformation damage control. And yet the "apostates" are hitting the target so often, the Watchtower is flinching from time to time. Unfortunately, not enough. But perhaps another battle will be won soon in this religious war.

  Wedding Present: The Family Happiness book

  my mother told me that after i get married, she's going to give me the "family happiness" book.

  i've never read the thing, but i know it's a wts publication that often gets given or mailed out to newlyweds who aren't in the troof.

  what's your opinion of this "fine christian publication"?

  Isaiah's Prophecy and it's fulfillment in 1919 (yeah right).

  i have been reading the isaiah book part 2, the book the witnesses are studying right now at the book study.

  in this book they everything has a modern day fulfillment...with them.

  just as in the revelation book, where the 7 trumpet blasts are referred to as being bible student conventions in the 1920's.

  In any case, there will be great joy in dubville when this abomination of a book is finished at the bookstudy. I can't remember how many local "friends" have made negative comments about this book and its unfortunate predecessor. All of which I heartily agree with.

  Getting this Watchtower publication for a wedding present is like a waitress getting a Watchtower as a tip. How else are we supposed to clear out our stock of those trusty old "horses?"

  Exactly Rocketman. Makes you wonder when and where is the "payoff?" Never felt good either way, doing too much or too little, so settled for as little as would get me by.
