Best definition of the Bible I've ever seen...
by logansrun inthis was emailed to me from a friend...
the old testament is a compilation of convenient myth and a history of racial justification and aggrandisement, threaded through with rules of hygiene and behaviour, all devised to convince the children of israel that as god's chosen race, no matter what calamities befell them as victims of babylon and egypt and no matter what calamities they wantonly inflicted on other races and religions, they should strive to increase in number, power and extent.
the new testament, as expressed in the four gospels, is a dispensation from the narrow and proscriptive uncharity of the jews, appealing to the greek and latin temperament.

How could "matter" .....the things in our universe come about? It is composed of material. Material comes from something. Any idears?
Hmm.. I don't know, but there *had* to be something at the "start" that didn't come from something else. Otherwise you'd have the annoying problem of infinite causality. All matter is made up of neutrons, protons, and electrons. (Also positrons, antiprotons, and antineutrons if you want to consider antimatter ) These particles are made up of different kinds of quarks.
Maybe those building blocks of matter have always existed. For me it seems much simpler and more likely that those most basic components have always been around instead of some infinitely powerful and infinitely complex being.

Don't Take The Mickey..
by Englishman into all those people out there who keep referring to the noble name as "micheal", desist, i say!.
it's not "micheal", it's "michael"!.
meaning: he who is, or like, god.

Another annoying thing is when people pick up on other's errors!
Agreed! Although I am annoyed with grammatical errors, it annoys me more when someone constantly corrects another person's grammar when they didn't ask to be corrected.

Because I can't prove either, are they both as likely as each other, or does one option fit the available evidence better?
Two words: Ockham's Razor.
And it is just plain cool when people use Star Trek when illustrating something. 5 extra credit points for you!

"Irregardless" is another annoying word some people use. Just say "regardless"!
And some people seem to use apostrophes whenever pluralizing a word. "I have two dog's!"
Another annoying thing is when someone contracts "I have" when "have" is the primary (?) verb: "I've a cold!"

Earlier it was stated that it was up to the believer to prove the existence of God. Surely if you believe God does not exist the same applies to you, provide the proof he doesn't.
Nope. The christian god is defined in such a way as to be untestable. It is simply not possible to disprove his existence.
If I claim that a fourth dimensional being is responsible for all of the paranormal experiences people claim to have, on whom does the burden of proof lie? Do I say becuase you cannot DISPROVE it then it therefore must be true? No, you and everyone else would demand that *I* prove my case. We have no way of disproving that fourth dimensional beings exist, but that doesn't make my statement any more valid.
Inability to disprove existence does not strengthen the argument that it does exist. In fact in my opinion it makes it even less likely to exist. When something is defined in a way to be untestable to science, I get really suspicious.
My atheism has absolutely nothing to do with the WTS screwing with me religiously. Actually, I would have become atheist much sooner if I could have broken away from the organization more quickly than I did.

"Christendom", is completely the opposite of what the JWs would like you to believe it is.
There are lots of things that are the opposite from what the JWs teach. When you said that I thought about "worldly" people. The WTS instills this fear of non-JWs into its members. JWs avoid associating with worldly people as much as possible and has the side "benefit" of drawing JWs together. It's just another cult tactic.
It sounds dumb, but my wife and I were "surprised" with how nice, intelligent, and sincere "worldly" people are... non-JWs can be excellent people!! It demonstrated the mental conditioning we received while growing up in the organization.

Yeah! And why do some people spell "favorite" and "color" with a "u"? "favourite" and "colour"... That's just wrong!
