  Long time reader.....first time poster

  hello everyone, my wife and i are currently associated with jw's.

  my mom converted when i was 3 years old in 1975, my wife was born after her parents converted.

  about 4 years ago however, my wife and i have seen many things that have discouraged us enough to start doing some research into the validity of this religion.

  Welcome JWinprotest! Thanks for sharing your situation.

  My personal feeling on this is that it's not worth staying in the religion just to retain friendships. It is true that there's an amount of pain involved with leaving and having friends and family (potentially) cut you off, but it will eventually be overshadowed by the joy in being able to live your life the way you see fit. The time it takes for that joy to overtake the pain varies from person to person.

  Yeah, it says, "Comment pending approval". No dissenting voices let through.

  Information control at every level.

  I bet if we were to repost the video on Youtube, it would be removed because of "copyright violation." It's a commercial and they obviously want as many people to see it; they would only do that because the can't control the comments.

  here's one example: being a congregation publisher.

  nowhere in the bible does it say you should be a "publisher" and turn in your time if you preach.

  they try to twist the scriptures by saying that numbers are constantly being recorded in the bible so then conforming to the rules of being a publisher is from the scriptures.. yeah, right..

  the recent thread about the 5yr old baptized got me to thinking....... i learned to read at an early age.

  i was also in all the gifted classes in school.

  i remember a great deal of the witness kids were in gifted classes.

  but they say NOTHING.

  That's the point. The commercials are designed to pique someone's interest in learning more about them. Of course interested ones are only supposed to look at official sources: scientology.org. Sound familiar? lol

  it doesn't change my view that they're a BIG TIME CULT.
