I don't understand what you're saying.
Come back later and explain it again -- I'm too busy right now.
when people would say, "i don't understand your beliefs on dfing," or, "i don't understand your beliefs on the end times calculations," (even after these were explained)....i used to think i'm just smarter than them.. now i realize they comprehended it just fine but were trying to say, "i don't agree with you," in a softer way.when people would say, "i'm too busy to talk to you right now," i thought that was an invitation to return.. now i realize they were trying to say, "please go away and don't come back," in a softer way.

it actually all started a bit stronger when mj died.
he loves his music and curiousity got the better of him and he started to google everything about him and jws.
he was also watching a lot of youtube videos.
Awesome! Things are definitely looking very good for your husband. Glad your subtle anti-witnessing paid off, plus that dang ol' Internet!
i watched this movie today and wow, very good storyline and special effects.. i noticed there's alot of borrowed themes from the bible and slapped into the movie.. i like nicolas cage and i think he did a superb job with the movie.. anyone else seen it?.
yiz.
You mean the part about being taken away by space aliens? ... yeah I can see the Biblical reference
The director clearly intended for some people to think the creatures could be angels. They appeared to have angelic wings, afterall.
But the fact that they were using vehicles lead me (and probably most?) to the alien conclusion. I listened to the director's commentary at that part of the movie and that ambiguity was intentional.

I haven't seen the movie, but it sounds like a (poorly worded) way to say that everything that happens has a cause, which is exactly what determinism says.
Your statement is absolutely correct.
But that's not the point the character was trying to get across. He was clearly saying that if the universe is deterministic, everything has a purpose. The alternative (he proposed) was that if the universe was not deterministic, then it is merely a result of a series of accidents and has no purpose.
Determinism does not require purpose.
Just did a GIS for "fail".... wow. Just, wow.

Overall I liked it. The ending was a bit odd and ambiguous, but I think that was the director's intent.
One thing I did not like was at the beginning. Nicholas Cage's character was asking his class about determinism. He states that if the universe is deterministic then that means everything happens for a reason. That is completely false. Determinism has nothing to do with purpose.
He also babbled on and on about how improbable it is for everything to line itself up "perfectly" for life to be able to evolve on our Earth. Sounded a bit like creationist propaganda to me, but maybe I was reading too much into it.
here are two instances where i had had enough and confronted people when they were being rude.
was i over the top??
instance 1.. i was at the supermarket and there was a group of kids (~17-19 years old), wanna-be hoodlums, hangin out in the produce section and two or so of them were eating sunflower seeds and spiting them on the floor.. i said in a loud voice (i was ~10 ft away) "hey- are you throwing shit on the floor?!
LOL @ the Burger King story. Funny but I seriously doubt it's real!
Kudra, I don't think you crossed the lines in your examples. Personally I probably wouldn't have said anything, but I'm not very outgoing with things like that. I suppose if it was bad enough I'd say something.

warning this might make you a little pissed, but i think it's good to see the way they talk about us.
nothing we don't already know.check out the tear of oberon comments.
This is a familiar one used not only by JWs, but persons from many religions. . .
It's a form of the "no true Scotsman" logical fallacy.
In true cult like fashion, all the reasons why someone might become an apostate are due to faults with the individual. Never does a cult member consider that the fault may be with the organization itself.
