  for those of you in other countries - how many times have you seen thousands of your own countrymen lying outside in a field waiting for health care?

  You are kidding me... right? EVERY government plan, regardless of where it is, rations care.

  So you think the government will deny coverage? That is not my experience with Australian health care.

  What is a fact is private health insurance companies can and do deny valid claims. They can and do set a lifetime limit on coverage. When something major happens, people often are forced into bankruptcy. IMO this kind of crap is unacceptable.

  In general I am for free markets, but when it comes to the health insurance industry, they have shown themselves to be a detriment to society.

  I want healthcare to be between me and my doctor. I don't want the government involved in the equation.

  Why would that change? The gov't will replace your insurance company. It won't replace your doctor.

  So who do you complain to if the government denies you coverage?

  The gov't won't deny you coverage. That's the whole point.

  The advantage of the gov't being the sole insurance carrier is that they are not profit driven. No executives are getting huge bonuses based on how many valid claims are denied.

  As long as the treatment you are seeking is one that is normally covered by the gov't, it will be paid. Sorry, boob jobs probably aren't included in what's covered.

  So, my question about memes was simple; have they been scientifically proven?

  I don't think they have been "proven." They are a concept. Atheism is not dependent upon memes being proven scientifically. In actuality atheism is a position of non-belief. It is not dependent upon anything. Theism is a position that claims something (God exists) and is therefore a position that requires evidence.

  Belief in anything should be scientifically proven first, according to a Dawkinite's world view.

  I don't agree with this. Some ideas are not totally radical and are logically built on other proven ideas. If they are consistent with other knowledge they may be considered "potentially valid" even before being "proven" true. The amount of evidence required before an idea is given any credence is directly related to how "extraordinary" the claim is.

  Do you consider this meme idea to be "extraordinary"? I don't. And like I said, my current worldview is not dependent upon the idea of memes being proven or disproven. I find it wild that you compare the meme concept to the "existence of God." Isn't that concept quite critical to your worldview?

  2012 will not be the 'end', from what I'm reading, it's just the beginning of a different era, one where we will see huge positive changes on the planet..........

  Or, much more likely, 2012 will be nothing special. It will be a year just like any other.

  First, there is the theological consideration. How consistent are the group's beliefs with the basic tenets of the historic Christian faith? This evaluates the eternal significance of such beliefs.

  I disagree with this point. I don't think a group should be labeled a "cult" simply because one disagrees with some of their teachings (thinks the teaching is not a "basic tenet of the Christian faith").

  In my opinion a cult is all about the control it places on its members, not any specific teachings.

  My wife is Catholic. It certainly lacks any qualities which would make it a high-control or cult-like religion....which is certainly a good thing.

  All I know is the JWs paint a very, very dim picture of the Catholics. JWs think they know everything about Catholicism, but in reality they know extremely little. It's not what I expected.

  Medical science offer no real concrete explanation and hence no real cure. It is concerned largely with "management" of the condition, normally with drugs. The old methods were even more barbaric, lobotomy and such.

  What's really crazy is people who still think schizophrenia and other disorders are caused by demons.

  Medical science is constantly improving. Until a real cure is found, often drugs are the next best thing as they can relieve symptoms and help a person to lead a normal life. Medical science not being able to eliminate the root cause of such problems is not evidence that the "demunz" explanation is correct.

  Yes, that's right. People who believe in Jesus are never mentally ill.
