I would have recognized that my personal relationship with god was precisely that - Personal. That means it is not subject to policing or scrutiny by any mere man, congregation, or organization. I do not require a congregation to associate with.
Every religion says a few things that might agree with the bible. That doesn't make them right about everything. The jws have been wrong about many things, just as other religions have.
In my opinion, even if the JWs were correct in all their doctrines, it still would not excuse their abusive practices and policies.
i posted yesterday or day before regarding my anger at my wife being shunned the day after her father died.. in fact it was a very deliberate shun by 3 women who went out of their way to brush right past my wife.. i saw 2 of them today and went up to them in the school playyard and said very loudly for all the parents to hear:.
"i would like to thank you both for your condolensces and for walking right past my wife when her father had just died.. true christianity??
From my experience it is difficult to shun others despite the pressure placed upon you from the WTS.
Yes, I'm sure it's difficult because it goes against the grain. Shunning is not the action of a normal, well-adjusted human being. It takes a conscious effort for a normal person to be so callous, which is why, in my opinion, it's all the more reprehensible.
I thought it was interesting that elders used to counsel me for every stupid thing, like biting my nails or having a bright tie. But when I got a job working for a political party I thought for sure they would DF me. Instead, they said I had a 'cool' job.
i thought of a question i'd like to ask my sister-in-law (who's a fanatical dub).
i'd like to say to her: "...if it could be proven to you beyond any doubt that this was not the "one true religion", would you still go to the kingdom hall?...
i figure it's a catch-22 that really ought to make them stop and think.
If it could be proven to you beyond any doubt that this was NOT the "one true religion", would you still go to the Kingdom Hall?..."
JW Response:
There is no useful purpose to discussing hypothetical situations that could never happen. We focus on reality, not fantasy! By the way, have you seen our latest Watchtower?
That's what I once said when I was still a JW when faced with a similar question.
yep - you read that right.. i had a message on my answering machine - a jw i used to know long ago, left a message, wanting me to help out with some legal matters (i have worked for the criminal justice system for about 15 yrs now).. my husband just about had a cow - here's someone who wouldn't talk to me at the grocery store, but has no problem talking to me if they need something?
i thought to myself, could this person really be that nieve about human social situations - ie: if you're going to be mean to someone, don't expect a favor from them .
ok ok, i know - i should show more christian attitude, turn the other cheek, and call this person back.

Hell, that's no surprise. That's how they treated me when I was in "good standing" and pioneering?.
I should show more christian attitude
No. Display the JW attitude. See below:
Let them call someone "worldly" and pay $50 to $100 an hour for a consultation fee.
Alternatively, you can charge them a $100 p/h consulting fee yourself. (3 hour minimum). Make sure you get it in writing, or they'll stiff you. Once you've completed consultations, and received payment, tell them what you really think of them. Maybe you can even sabotage their case and get paid for it.
Are you going this year? If only for Christ? How about just to piss people off then? lol.
I'm not going, but the idea of pissing people off is the only thing that could make me have second thoughts about it.
If I were inclined to celebrate the memorial? for Christ I wouldn't do it among JWs who, by their actions, renounce everything he stood for. I'd sooner do it alone in my garage.
For your son's sake, think about avoiding meetings altogether. If he wants to check them out when he's an adult that's his choice. But why risk exposing a young, fragile mind to cult indoctrination?
