Unwritten rules at the Kingdom Hall, what were yours ???

every one of us who attended the kingdom hall, must have went through this at some time, and noticed things you were not supposed to do, even though it wasn't wrong.

the biggie at our hall was do not sit in the back row, i always did, what was the deal on that, why put chairs there.

- don't back you car in, someone would go out and check this nightly, ???.

I was not allowed to sit next to my husband (when we were dating) both of his parents had to sit in between us..BUT sister pioneer and her now husband were all over each other during the meeting, and I mean some "heavy petting" going on. My hubby was also counciled about having a "worldy girlfriend", who was me at the time...he told them...well she's studying, so does that make her evil...they actually told him yes and I would probably "pull him away" from the religion...ya okay, whatever. He never wanted to go in the first place

The men HAD to wear suit coats out in service, even when it was 100 degrees outside...felt bad for the men in dark suits. If you didnt wear a suit coat, then you had no privledges.

I had a dress on and it went not even an inch past my knees (even sitting down it was maybe 2 inches above my knee), the elders wife brought me to their house and made me wear her clothes...the thing is, they counciled me in front of the whole car group of "appropriate attire"...they could have least done it in private. This is the same elder who decided 2 weeks before our wedding that "he didnt think that it would be appropriate to marry us in the hall. My husband was nearly killed by a drunk driver and couldnt make meetings because he was bed ridden, they felt that our attendance was slipping ...then he decided that he didnt feel right marrying us...we werent "strong enough". after balling my eyes out for 45 mintues while they tried to convince us to cancel the wedding, I laughed and then went the JP and she was MORE than glad to marry us.

A visit with my sister

my sister recently moved to a big beautiful home in southern indiana... all her neighbors are amish.... so we are sitting on the front porch, talking, and she tells me about the amish neighbors, and that they stop by and talk all the time...i go, ''what''????

i thought we werent to speak to the amish, that would be rude......boy was i deluded.

about this time, up the road come two amish men, and two girls..... they were dressed in blue, and had on their hats, and the girls followed shortly afterward..they stood at the bottom of the drive, till we said hi, like they were waiting to be invited....real polite, and proper... now keep in mind, as this story unfolds, i have never in my life talked to an amish...so i didnt know what to expect.... so my sister says, ""hi , how are you all''?.

(((little witch))) Dont worry about "rambling on", I do it all the time :) It is a way to get things off of your chest. It sounds like you have been to hell and back. I think your sister is right, you should write to your family member and tell them what you need to. You sound like strong person, dont let anyone tear you down. I am here with both ears open and a shoulder to lean on if you need one

I didnt know that about the Amish as well! I thought that they didn't speak to "outsiders". It sounds like they were really cool to talk to! It must be so interesting to meet someone of a different culture like that. They also sound very sweet and sincere...did you get that impression from them as well? Just curious, does your sis live in PA? (DUR...just realized you already mentioned where she lives)

A loss of Life, A tribute to my nieces....

thirteen years ago my nieces were murdered.

today is a hard day for me, remembering the phone call the shock and pain.

lives stolen in a moment.

New Girl on the block

i have been reading the threads for about a year now and thought its time to post my story.

i cant remember much up until i was ten except the usual no birthdays, no worldly friends or bad associates.

then it was a series of arguments of why i didnt what to go to church.

I am looking forward to hearing more from you :) It's funny, I never called the "kingdom hall" by the name, it was always church to me (born and raised Catholic), my Mom would have a fit when I called it "Kingdom Hall", she always asked why it wasn't called Church or "Service". It's funny when you are out and looking in...you can really see how much thought control they had. Good for you at the young age of 10 realizing what you were into. I started in at 18 and just recently began to "fade".

i feel the need to express how i feel and felt about my life as a gay man.

i was brought up from birth as a jehovahs witness.

this has played a major part in my life and it has been a real struggle to get past.

You are a very brave man, it takes so much to talk about your problems, esp. with other people. I admire your strength and your willingness to share such a dramatic personal experience with all of us out here on the board.

We all go through trying times in our lives, your experience was not an easy one, but you made it through...as one poster said "what doesnt kill you , makes you stronger". I am a firm beliver in that statement, throughout my own life, I have battled bouts of chronic depression and substance abuse, I also made it and I am a stronger person now than I was before. Keep your head up and stay strong.
