My Becoming a JW
by Juliana ini was raised non-religious.
i don't call myself an atheist as such because i don't like to label anyone, but i don't actually believe in god (though i am christian in background, and several branches of family family are roman catholic).
my fiance knows this.

Just to add my two cents. I was raised as a JW and married a non-JW (kind of the reverse of your situation). I left on my own, no one prompted me too and my husband claimed that he did not mind if I remained a JW. I didn't want to, having seen on my own the myriads of things that are wrong with that religion/organization. My parents, however, are JWs, as are my sisters, and I think my husband sees now how difficult it would have been for us to be together if I was a JW. Esp when kids come along, people tend to get very touchy about certain subjects. Okay, I am cognizant of the fact that I am rambling some (I'm really tired -- sorry), but trust me and others when we say a relationship between a JW and a non-JW will not work, ever. Both of you will be miserable in the end. Sorry to have to tell it like it is....
Good luck,

I'm relatively new to this board, so I can't claim to have the familiarity with you that you all obviously have. I have two children, a son and a daughter. My son is almost five, and I'm not afraid to say that I adore him. I love both my children, don't get me wrong, but my boy is very special to me. I would be beyond devastated if I received a letter like this. My heart goes out to you, Inky. I think you are lucky that you have such support from your friends online, and some relatives, and I read the thread with interest to see what your next move would be. I think the letter you sent was right on. I fought with my parents like crazy when I was younger. I even thought I hated them. My feelings towards my mom in particular have changed tremendously now that I am a mom myself. I never understood the "this will hurt me more than it will hurt you" line until I had my own kids.
Unlike what a previous poster mentioned, here's hoping he does procreate, because only then will he know the pain he caused.
Best Regards,
Lucia

Baby Showers
by Larry inhey folks - what's the newest 'light' on attending babdy showers when the couple isn't married and having a baby out of wedlock?
i know, years ago, most j dubs wouldn't go or support the event.
i ask b/c my brother's mate is having a baby shower and he told me that my mother and sisters (all dubs) are coming.

I prefer the regular type of shower. I would think that babies falling from the sky would be at least a little bit messy.

Do You Love Yourself???
by minimus ini believe that before you can love another, you must love yourself first.
some seem to loathe themselves.
others seem to adore themselves.

Probably 2 or three times a day. Boy was it fun telling the elders about that!

anybody want to talk?
by Freedomrules inthis probably seems like a weird request, but i live overseas and am a bit lonely and don't know any other ex-jws (other than my best friend).
if anyone else is interested, i'd be happy to call them (esp if you are in the dc area.
the call is free for me).

I want to tell my parents
by Freedomrules ini'm debating how/or is i should tell my parents about my not believing in the org anymore.
i haven't been an active witness for 8 years, and my family and i celebrate bdays and thanksgiving and a couple other holidays (i can't do halloween or christmas, nothing to do with being an ex-wit, i just have personal issues with those).
i know they will be devastated, might cut me off.

I haven't been an active witness for 8 years, and my family and I celebrate bdays and thanksgiving and a couple other holidays (I can't do halloween or christmas, nothing to do with being an ex-wit, I just have personal issues with those). I know they will be devastated, might cut me off. It will make things awkward when I visit them, since their lives revolves around wits and meetings. My sisters will probably cut me off. But I don't feel right continuining to just play along, giving them hope that I might one day become active. Because I won't. Also, as I mentioned earlier, my kids are getting older and I don't want them to have to hide from my parents that we celebrate their birthdays and some holidays.
I'm thinking I'll send them a letter explaining why I disagree with the org, and some of the orgs policies, such as blood, birthdays, but I'm not sure if I really should. My husband thinks we should say something but is afraid that this might result in the family cutting us off. I don't think they will. One of my sisters might, she's married to a bethelite and they're uberwitnesses. My other sister I don't think will...arrrgggh. Stupid religion.
