visits to inactive ones is there any directives recieved by elders
by quinah ini know i might have asked this before, but have the elders ever had any directive on visiting inactive ones with a view to finding out their current situation/feelings on being a witness, and then using a negative response as an "excuse" for disassociating them or disfellowshipping them?
i thought i had read some where that there had been a push on visiting inactive ones with a view to doing the above.
i have just mentioned this to the in-laws who are still in the borg, and they asked another elder who denys the fact that this would be done.

Shamus, is there any letters or anything on the net which shows the directive in writing else the inlaws wont just take my word for it?

Can any one help please or find me something in print that I can show them as i got the feeling I was making it up just to slate the religion and justify my not going to meetings any more!

How many hours a week did you spend doing "theocratic" things?
by freedom96 inthere are the meetings, field service, personal study time, etc.. but, there was much time spent getting ready, getting dressed for the meetings, driving time, getting undressed out of those horrible meeting clothes, the time spent socializing before and after, coffee breaks during service.
5 hours of meetings.
5 hours.

I used to spend every waking hour doing theocratic things when i was a pioneer and that was back in the days when you had to do 90 hrs pr month to be a regular. Things didnt get much better after i came off the pioneer list and got married. I worked full time mon-fri 7:45-4:45 and the week went like this Monday after work and doing hw and tea a bible study from 7:30 which would last till quite late
Tuesday ministry school and whatever else after came home about 10.00pm cream crackered
Wednesday study for Thursday night group
Thursday Book study
Friday late night witnessing followed bv w/t pre study
Saturday no lie in my hubby was reaching out to be a MS so it had to be ministry for at least 2 hrs
Sunday talk and W/T followed by more ministry
Phew im tired just typing all that in!

How long did it take you to leave the org?
by sandy ini was wondering how long it took for all of you to leave the org.
how active were you and for how long while knowing the "truth" was not the truth.
i ran into an old friend last week.

i think ive taken the longest. I was brought up as a borg and didnt stop going until 4.5 yrs ago. Im in my mid 30s so i took my time. Like so many others have mentioned i still have nightmares about armageddon and feel guilty about even being on this forum. Im hoping that soon the emotional and mental scares will fade just not sure when it will happen though

Watchtower = Pharisees
by drwtsn32 inthe wts always talks about how wrong it was for the pharisees to make an endless number of rules.
but the wts is guilty of the same thing.
you can't have a beard... you can't watch rated r movies... you must report your field service activity... you cannot go to costume parties... you can have some blood fractions but not whole blood... you can't read any stuff that is against our opinion... yadda yadda yadda.. my mom (an active jw) argues that theses are not rules but only guidelines.

Where did the beard rule come from anyway, what the deal on that

Its been a while since I prayed, but I do agree that after a while u just go through the motions like praying before every meal. I used to find it really hard to try and vary my prayers, and not be repetitive, but just how many ways can u say thanx for food. That is one thing I used to feel guilty about, as if my relationship with Jehovah was not strong enough because some days I just couldn`t find much different to say at meal times. At least that is one thing I no longer have to struggle with

new rules concerning disfellowshipping/ disassociating after you have stopp
by quinah inhi everyone i have just joined this forum and wondered if anyone else has heard of the rule that if you are inactive, which i have been for the last 4-5 years, that they have a new rule of you either become active again or you have to disassociate yourself, or they can disfellowship you?
is this correct, and does anyone know if there is a time limit that you can be disfellowshipped say up to 5 years after you stop going to meetings?
please help!

very interested to see liquidskys comment only another 2.5 yrs to go then and I may be classed as disassociated! I also agree with nicolaou that in some sense it would allow me just to " get on with my life" without having to constantly look over my shoulder. I cant believe how underhanded the elders can be in trying to trick you or catch u off guard and say u no longer feel like a JW. One things for sure, no one is getting in here for a visit ever!
