What is the crappiest job you have ever had?

for me it was when i was living in mexico and i got a job as a waiter out of sheer boardom.

the pay was lousy, the work was hard, the boss was an asshole, and at the end of the week i was told that i was not good enough to be a waiter and i was fired.

Milk carton packer.

A conveyor belt, down which machine wrapped 16 x 1 litre tetrapaks of UHT milk trundled; I had to take them off, pack them on a pallet the right way, put a layer of cardboard between rows, and when the pallet got so high, trundle it out on a hand trolly, and replace it, and then get back to laying the packs down before the back log got to large and started dropping on the floor.

12 hour shift.

I did one, and rode out of there so fast on my bike, that I left a strip of burning tarmac behind me...

I do wonder what if would have been like if I got one job I applied for; basically it was a bull spunk salesman.

And two adverts at the local job centre kept appearing; cleaner at an abotoir (sp?), and swede chopper (nothing to do with Scandanvians). I think the former job vacated frequently out of dispair, and the latter vacated whenever someone slipped...

sometimes we write fluffy and silly, other times filled with great information, sorry guys, but other times filled with insults.

I think 'inactive' probably has lots of bad connotations to many. Like getting visits.

I think it would be interesting to find out WHY people lurk.

So maybe we should ask lurkers to say Hi! and why they're still lurking?

Flame Ups? Tired? Scared To Voice...............

i am wondering how many here are often reluctant to post their true opinions on certain subjects to evade being flamed, made to feel lesser than human, or being ganged up on?

i ask this as i have read threads and had things i would have liked to contribute, but feel i have already had so much stress that i cannot take the type of personal attacks that occur here.. before anyone jumps in and attacks that statement, i have had a recent physical illness that has stressed me beyond normal limits.. we have all seen it happen.

then along comes a mr nice guy who sticks up for the attackers.. ana...,of the "just cannot be bothered class".. .

I know perfectly well that my fingers can get completely carried away with themselves when I respond to certain types of posts.

I am sure on occasion I do jump at a reasonably stated moderate opinion. That is wrong.

But, as with Adam http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=21149&site=3 , I see nothing wrong with dealing with someone in the currency they deal in. Sometimes it highlights what they are doing.

Sometimes people will say something morally objectional, or just plain wrong. Again, normally, the way it is said is of import, for example;

"All faggots will burn in hell, they're evil child abusing perverts"

Will get both barrels.

"I'm not comfortable with people openly expressing their homosexuality, I have strong feelings about the morality of it, and would rather they just kept quiet"

Would get moderated disagreement.

"Evolutionists are credulous fools, Jesus is alive! Prove me wrong, show me his grave"

Will get laughed at. Harsh perhaps, but human...

"I have read of evidence that severely undermines the credibility of evolutionary theory (x,y,z)"

Will get a detailed and considered response.

"You fools, Jehovah will punish you, you apostates!"

Will get laughed at...

"How can you say JW's are wrong about (x,y,z)

Will get a proper reply.

That's how I and I think many people deal with it.

Basically, I agree with you, but if someone is provoking then surprisingly enough, they provoke people, and they can just deal with that. If someone states something in a reasonable way, even if it's dumb, there is a good chance of a sympathetic responce.

Ad Hom comments are problematical; in my family, even though they are all Dubs, dinner table debate was rough and ready, "You're absolutely mad" being such a common rejoinder it didn't mean anything, and spirited speculation as to WHY someone was saying something, often way off topic. For others, rough and ready debate is harder, and is something those of us with thick skins should be aware of more.

Hey, you seem to think of backpack nukes as some kind of fission handgrenade. Pull pin, throw, shrug shoulders, count to four, be reduced to component molecules.

Much as we would all be amused watching you demonstrating such a device's use (from a suitable distance on a big videoscreen), that ain't quite like it is.

They are nuclear demolition charges, as they are put in place by a man. They might be used tactically, but again, You Wrong!

A typical tactical nuke would be far larger; 10's of Kt, maybe 100's.

So a backpack nuke is way little.

I am rather surprised, considering the utter hogwash you put out, that you haven't tried alleging that the City of London bomb was a backpack nuke (there are people that do), or that the US warship rammed by a boat packed with TNT (the Cole?) was in fact hit by an Israeli air-sea missile with a micro nuke warhead (there are people that do).

In fact, given your level of credulity, I think you would have had you read the websites.

Bugger off and read Jane's and come back when you're worth arguing with.

Your are incorrect that I cannot read the Bible by myself, however, the Roman Catholic does offer an official interpretation in order to preserve the doctrine. Do you think that your interetation is any better just because it is yours? If you and a thousand other people interpret the Bible differently, how do you know you are still wityhin the realm of orthodoxcy? It touches on discussions I've been having here with a few Christian's of a more fundamentalistic vein.

As it is impossible to prove the existance of god (any god), all religionists have to validate their beliefs are subjective interpretations of Holy Books, which in themselves are not provable as being of an inspired nature (either the book or the interpretation). Some may claim subjective validation (enlightenment, being born again, gifts of the spirit, etc.), but again, this is not objectively verifiable in a scientific fashion.

Lacking such closure, a Zorastian's arguement that he is absolutely right is as provable as a Calvanist, or (no offense) a Roman Cathpolic, JW or Muslim, etc., as a similar methodology and psychology is at play in making these claims.

Any religionist refusing to recognise this lack of closure, and insisting they are right, despite other religionists having claims of equal validity, is showing signs of cultic thinking, as insistance upon being right and exclusivism are clear hallmarks of cults, as distinct from broader faithways that are non-exclusivistic.

Typically a spectrum is identified, from denomination (most Roman Catholics for example) to sect, to cult, where denominations are diplomatic about other religions, perhaps thinking themselves the better way, but one of many, sects are increasingly condemnatory of other beliefs, and cults are absolutist.

It's wonderful seeing a religionist realise this.

Time and again you refuse to address issues; this time you give a nice little apologistic reason for the lack of proof, when that wasn't even what I was driving at.

You ignore the point made about other people of other religions doing exactly what you do.

Are they right too? I don't think you believe that.

So you are saying (correct me if I am wrong) that YOU are right and EVERYONE else is wrong. Your apologetic explaination for the lack of proof of god does not answer the problem this exposes.

You think your beliefs are right, and can quote chapter and verse and develop a seemingly consistant arguement within that. You may claim some subjective proof of this too.

Throw a rock out your window with your eyes closed, and you will likely hit someone who believes something different, but who can also quote chapter and verse and develop a seemingly consistant arguement within that... even if it's from a different Holy Book... and again, they may also claim some subjective proof too.

How can you say YOU are right, when by the same methodology other people claim the same?

This is why your beliefs have a cultic tinge to them. They are illogical and demonstrably so, not in themselves, but in your insistance opon absolute rightness, when you have no greater claim to this than the Wiccan next door.

Until you actually think about this, and address the issue, you are showing yet another cultic trait; cognitive dissonance. You are confronted with something you cannot argue with (or else you would have done it) that conflicts with your beliefs. You have a great investment in your beliefs. So you ignore the things you can't explain.

I hope you realise, in my own way, I am saying this out of concern for you. You might not like it, you might not agree with it, but I'm not having a go at you, I'm commenting on your behaviour, and wondering why you still don't address the issues I raise.

All the best; without being rude, simply re-stating what you've said will not get a responce. I want to see your reaction to the issue I've raised before it's worthwhile continuing this discussion.

i saw a report on tv about the church of jesus chrisht of latter day saint and they have a lot in common with the jw.

they go from door to door and as the jw, they believe that they are here to save the world.

do you think that this church will become more popular while the watchtower is losing his popularity?

How do you know if you're going to heaven?

the only way to go to heaven is believing that jesus christ is god's son, and that he was sent here to earth to die on the cross for our sins.

I gave my opinion of the thinking behind your opinion. If you are not thinking in a cultic way, demonstrate this. I think that's a better way to show I am wrong than withdrawing from the discussion without addressing the issues I've raised.

Essentially, you think you are right, but can not prove it. I think I am right, sure. But I can prove most of my assertions other than 'god does not exist', which, as we know, is unprovable. I believe in reality; things that people can reach a concensus over as a result of scientific methodology.

You believe in a revealed truth, do you not? You believe in what you feel to be true.

Truth and reality are two different things aChristian. You have your truth. JW's have theirs. Papuan animists have theirs. You can no more prove your truth than they. Yet you insist you are right. So do they, I am sure. Your failure to realise the contradiction in this is a sure sign of a cultic mindset.

To fail to accept that in the larger reality one cannot claim to have the truth, one can only say you believe what you believe.

This in itself is a very pertinant arguement regarding the probability of god.

How could god not prove his existence if this is the only way for his followers to be sure that their truth coincides with reality?
