Well, I happen to feel it "has plenty of proofs if you want to interpret the evidences in a certain way".

For example, if is a fact that inter-dimensional travel using wardrobes has never been proved as impossible, nor have multiple realities been proven as impossible. If they are not impossible they are possible, even if there is not one shred of proof.

You for example maintain that Israelites travelled to North America. There is not one shred of proof for this outside Mr Smith's Book of Bollocks. Yet one cannot prove that such a claim is impossible. If it is not impossible, then it is possible, even in the absense of proof.

In fact, the only difference in their validity is that C S Lewis made no bones about the fact he was writing allegorical fiction, whereas Mr Smith claimed he was inspired by god. You are basing your entire life on claims of inspiration, not on fact.

If C S Lewis had claimed he was inspired of god and the Chronicles of Narnia were based on fact, then there would be NO DIFFERENCE between his claims and Mr Smith's claims. Both would have a book they claimed was inspired that had no proof to back it up.

But, you're mind is as soft as runny cheese. It doesn't have to be. You're not stupid. You allow yourself to wallow in this ridiculousness because you are afraid of letting go of illusory hopes.

Liking him is neither here nor there as far as his religious beliefs go. One can like someone whose religious beliefs you disagree with and vice-versa. He means well, and I mean it when I say I'm sure he's a fine person.

It allows a reasonable level of critical thinking to sink in, as you discuss rational things with those who were never your peers.

Yup, precisely the point in Hussian's Combatting Cult Mind Control. Attack a characteristic of a cult by using a cult the person you are speaking to will be quite happy to be critical of. You can get them to attack a characteristic their own religion has... and hopefully they will realise that, even if you're avoiding a direct reference.

And sometimes, they do it themselves!!! They attack a characteristic of another 'cultic' / toxic thinking group - like the Mormons ignoring or "explaining" away inconvenient scientific data. When they do it themselves!! WHo could possibly ever do anything like that?

I think the majority of human children HAVE. It's just modern Western values turn pregnancy into a disease where the risk of litigation is often the driving factor for deciding how to do things.

This coincides with slightly silly judgement calls; a kid will be allowed to watch a war film, but see Mummy give birth? Done properly, it would be a life-enhancing memory.

Man, each time I see a depiction of birth on an American TV program I'm appalled at how regimented it is. I'm sure there are woman who do buck the system and give birth in a squat, kneeling, in a birthing pool, as well as those who give birth out of hospital.

In the UK they are far less regimented - although they'll still try to get you into hospital for the birth, you can opt for home birth.

Here in Holland homebirth is really quite common.

In most of the world it is the only option...

The Book Of Mormon has plenty of proofs if you want to interpret the evidences in a certain way - just as evidence can be found against it:

You can say this about ANY religious book!! The writings of Ron Hubbard for example. Hell, the Chronicles of Narnia, or the Lord of the Rings have "plenty of proofs if you want to interpret the evidences in a certain way". The fact you want to interpret evidence in a certain way so as to have belief in the Book of Mormon has precisely NOTHING to do with whether it is factual or not. What your statement illustrates is your continued failure to accept the fact there are commonly accepted reasonable standards of evidence, and your inability to step away from presuppositionalism. Mormons have , are and will further niche themselves Qcmbr, just as per JWs. There is as much evidence for the LDS having a 'true prophet' as for Charlie Russell being inspired of god. i.e., none, apart from the evidence indicating they are not a true prophet. They have a niche for those born in and too intimidated or stupid to get out, and a niche for those with poor critical thinking skills who are desperate for some form of identity and belonging with a fantastical pay-off at the end, who get sucked on. They also have a niche for men using the original doctrines of the church to have plural marriages - sometimes with disgustingly young women. They used to have a niche for second-class Mormons - black people. But even Mormons had to accept the fact their religion was founded on nasty misogynistic and racist principles and reject such doctrines - although just as the JWs do, when they change their mind they wrap the parcel of shit up nicely so the Rand and Files don't feel too stupid. Apart from an overwhelming desire to believe in errant nonsense (two cults down, how many to go...?) I am sure you are a fine person. You'll obviously chuck this one when you accept reality - your statement 'if we niche I'm out' is not the most enthralling statement of faith I've ever heard, but it makes it clear you are in it for results, results that you will never see. Pity you have to waste life to find this out.

Speaking of Gor... there are massive online communities that use the Gor novels as their basis... well, actually, they added 'free companions' as a possible identity - not all women want to be slaves quivering at the feet of their Master (quite why I can't imagine ), but other than that is is the full-blown Dominant/submissive thang (down to the use of H/he and S/she to refer to mixed groups of slaves and Masters and full-blown elaborate descriptions of the dances and services rendered by the slaves...

Great fun if it's your thing I suppose, but idea of someone 'typing' me a coffee fails to excite...

Can you get it from a camera to a PC?

I can help if not.

Is it a camera with a Firewire or USB socket so you can capture footage on the tape on to your hard-drive?

Does your PC or laptop have Firewire or USB sockets?

If you have no Firewire on your PC and both the PC and the camera have USB sockets, can you find out if your PC has USB 2 (fast) or USB 1.2?

If you don't have the software you need I can easily get stuff as it's related to one of my client's businesses.

'Disciplining' Children during meetings

once at our local kh, the families were told if they needed to 'spank' their children they needed to do it inside the hall for now on and not take the child outside.

apparently, some neighbors reported one of the mothers for child abuse and called up the hall and told the elders that if they see it again they will call the police.. .

by no shocker the mother was still able to keep her baby...

I was fortunate. Apart from a few slaps on my leg for being cheeky as a teenager, and at the same point my father once almost punching me out for being disrespectful to my mom, I can't recall being spanked. Youngest kid maybe?

I regret that I spanked my stepson. Including the awful offensive ineffectual haulings-out and swatting of asses that garnish any feast of spiritual food laid on by the Fetid and Deoderent Salve. I would have prefered giving him a damn good talking to, but his mum loathed the fact this really hit home and would rather I psank him. Never spanked my daughters.

I think cold, calculated physical disciple of a child is just wrong and ineffective.

A good hard slap when called for seems only human.

Oh don't get me started!

In no particular order, Asimov, in general, but Foundation series and Caves of Steel trilogy the most. Harrison, Stainless Steel Rat and Deathworld, Clarke, Heinlein (just read 'Doors of Summer', really good book... I suppose one potential 'fave' Sci-Fi book is 'Stranger in a Stranger Land', but I want to be Lazarus Long. Julian May, Many Coloured Land and Galactic Mellieu series. McCaffery - Pern, 'Ship Who Sang'. Real hard Sci-Fi like 'Mote in a God Eye' by Niven and Pournelle. 'Lucifer's Hammer' was good too. Herbert, Dune.

Love it... of course, my parents loathed it, but go figure...

i was brought up as a witness and left over a decade ago; i have always struggled with these points and hope you can provide an explanation.

the main answer to the questions in relation to wickedness being permitted is that jehovah is proving satan to be a liar (in other words to prove a point).

I've always found this one;

The explanation is to demonstrate once and for all Jehovah's right to rule. Man has been given time to demonstrate the ability to rule. How good of a job has he done?

God; "Okay Mr. Smarty Human, you think you can rule yourself. Go on then, see what happens!"
Man; "Okay."
God; "Oh, but you're gonna be suseptable to disease and will die."
Man; "How's that fair?"
God; "Fair? What's fair got to do with it?"
Man; "Well, I was perfect, and decided to rule myself, now you're gonna let me prove it BUT without perfection - you're setting me up to fail!"

A few generations later and God, having siad he'd let man rule themselves to show how incapable they are, interferes and kills off everyone but Noah and his family. Despite this terrorism against and destabilisation of man rule, a few generations later men get their act together and build Babel.

Man One; "Hah, well, despite the fact we now age and die and catch diseases we're still co-operating together succesfully".
God "Little sods - no telling what they might do - "abracadabra"!"

Essentially the Borg's view of man's fall makes god a cheat; he takes man's actions as a challange, accepts the challenge, and then changes the rules the challange was made under so as to prevent the challange being succesful, and then, when it looks like his first lot of cheating wasn;t enough to win the game, cheats again.

If man were still 'perfect', then the ability to govern themselves would be vastly enhanced. Monkies with an 80 year life span make poorer decisons than humans with infinate lifespans; they learn less, achieve less, cannot build on their achievements as they die.

If god had played fair, Adam and his descendents would be giving god the finger from more than one solar system by now.
