i am posting snippits of an email i sent to one of the last jw that i still had contact with.
i was planning to visit the area she lives in and she was interested in meeting for dinner.

I recently came out about how I feel about things to my girlfriend. She dumped me because of it, and phoned my parents to tell them about it. My dad didn't phone me, just my elders and all my friends to tell them that I was now a dangerous apostate and to be avoided. It hurts to know how brainwashed they are.
i was converted j.w about 15years ago but last year i got to know what sort of people they were in reality.
my husband and i made the decision in five minutes.within few days we sent a very brief letter that stated in few words that we were living the oganisation disgusted for what we so in tv on channel 9 the previous sunday.
we reach very fast that decision because we freely and voluntarily got in ,therefore with the same spirit got out.
- Shunning - when I was DFd, I had one friend in the world (my boyfriend) and it was very hurtful to have lifelong 'friends' and family walk by me on the street without acknowledgement.
My parents became jws when I was young, I have no recollection of anything other than being a jw. My parents made a choice to be a jw, my choice was made for me. And yet when I decide to leave vitually every person I have known in my life tells me to get lost, the y want nothing at all to do with me, even threaten to attack me if they see me in the street. Thats why it gives so much trauma when you decide to leave. And I didn't believe it to start with. Couple that with the realisation that you've been lied to and brainwashed for so many years and you see how hard it can be for some people.
dear stacy, i had heard of this accusation against jehovah's witnesses before and i asked one of our elders to explain this again.
about 20 - 25 years ago, the watch tower society obtained access to u.n. information by obtaining permission.
this was non-governmental thus non-political and non compromising.

I've had a similar argument with my dad. Is she on the internet? Does she download information on things? My dad downloaded a lot of informnation on a disease he's got. I asked him why, because according to the society averything you read on the internet is lies.....
And the UN thing. Why is that different to the brothers in Malawi not being able to buy a political card? They still wouldn't agree with the principles, but it would stop them being percecuted and killed. That would be a lot more important to me than being able to access a library.

I think a number feel that THEY could JUST look at the net and not be affected, but when you see ALL the evidence, it blows you away.
If I hadn't been on the internet I wouldn't have known a thing about what was really going on in the organisation. If it hadn't of been for Simon and other starting sites like this I would never have known, I'd still be struggling along. Thanks budd, I owe you one.

I'm trying to get most of my apostate library onto my computer, I'm downloading alsorts at the minute and saving it so I can archive it. I have quite a collection of other books, mainly science fiction. I'm goping to convert one of my rooms onto a library.

i think one major point that proves that the jw's are a cult is that you can't leave without being stigmatized.
all you have to do for other religions is take your name of the membership log or just resign.
for jw's you can't leave unless you're df'd or da'd.
Thanks for the link doc. When I first came to this board I didn't believe that jws were a cult, and that the claim was evidence of how apostates had wacked out thinking. Then I read that link posted on another thread and it knocked me for six. It was one of the main things that made my mind up that I could never be reinstated, no matter how much I needed to I could brown nose them anymore.
