just putting this out to you.. have you encountered, or noticed on occasion how what you were disfellowshipped for, also dictates who will associate with you, post-jw?
yes, i'm talking about those beloved ex-jws/df'd/da'd/apostates.. by that, i mean, if you were, let's say, disfellowshipped for scriptural/doctrinal issues, perhaps in the ex-jw world, you hold yourself or others of that ilk, in higher esteem?.
those that were disfellowshipped for smoking, heavy drinking or drug use, perhaps as previously not strong people.. those that were disfellowshipped for sexual misconduct: (file under: other) and similar to the above.. it's interesting.
Good to see you posting again Ray, might even manage to have another beer with you again soon if everything goes to plan......
I think this is a really good topic, I've seen some comments recently where people have been judged for the circumstances that led to them being df'd, but I remember the stress I was under when I got df'd and I went on to do a lot of things which I now regret. I'm glad I wasn't on them, but instead on me as a person.
I don't even know ehat class people would put me into anyway, I got df'd after the PO discovered I was having anal sex with his daughter (my fiance).............
well seems like i should introduce myself istead of reading everybody elses posts!
i've just started trawling through all the backlog of varied posts and think there are some very interesting characters and views.
(those aposta fests are unbelievable man!
You can't have too many Geordies on a message board, that's my motto.
Damn right! Welcome to jwd Wax:on.

i am desperate to get the book coc into the hands of my daughter and her husband, just trying to find a way.. it got me thinking i wonder how many active jws could read that book and still stay in the org ?.
it had such an impact on my life and others i know.
i had never even heard of such a book.
I know of a Sister who has read CoC and is still faithful. Her sister is an apostate, and she has discussed points from the book with my brother (DA'd), but is not bothered by the contents and still faithful.
When I personally read it it didn't have that much of an impact on me, it just reinforced what I had already thought and seen for myself.
The books that really made me think were George Orwells 'Animal Farm' and '1984'. The book that really blew me away was Steve Hassans 'Combatting cult mind control', I only read this a few months ago after being out for over 2 yrs. I've since ordered a few more books on group dynamics and am considering going on to study it properly.

Hey Gordy - did you ever know anyone from the Kirkby cong?
I used to know quite a few from that part of merseyside, but mainly from the Bromborough Congregation. How long ago did you move from there?

i was talking to a friend the other day, he told me that he wanted to get married but there was a problem with that.
he told me that he and his wife split over 20 years ago and he does not know where she is.
he said he has looked and cannot find her so he can file divorce papers.
In the UK that would not be a problem, but it depend on what the laws are in your state.
In the UK there are a few different criteria you can get granted a divorce;
There is another on too but I can't remember what it is. I represented myself for my divorce in the UK courts in 2001.
quite a while ago i mentioned to my parents about the un scandal but they didn't seem too interested, but when i called in the other day my mother mentioned it to me again.
they had a elder and his wife (family friends who i was previously very very close to) staying with them for the convention and discussed it with them.
the elders wife is a very strong personality and super-spiritual but when she heard of the scandal back in spring she had a huge problem with it.
The reply I'm going to send is to the sister who wrote to the society, not the wbts itself. Its more going to be along the lines of 'you know I've been looking into this, thanks for sending me a copy of the letter you received. I've still got a few questions about it, I wonder if you found the answers to any of them while you were looking in to it?'
The main difference I can see between this letter and the one listed on legolas's link is they already get round the problem of them not needing to become an NGO to access the library, they say thats what they got told at the time. If I call them a barefaced liar the sister who I'm writing to will just switch off and not listen to a word I say.
What I found more interesting was the link to the press release from 1992 where they state that to be accepted as NGO's they must show support for the charter of the UN. And perhaps more importantly, the association of one inactive NGO was terminated. This means that if the wbts did not present evidence of their work, including showing support etc, their membership would have been terminated.
I was thinking of sending a copy of the QFR where it was stated the joining the YMCA even to just use the gym was a disfellowshipping offence because it meant you agreed with their principles instead of relyin on Jehovah.lol... great idea! Something tells me THAT particular question will not be published.
Hell, give it a try and see what happens!
That was a question from readers from the late 70s I believe. Can someone post a copy of it, and also the article which the letter refers to? I don't have the WT library on my computer anymore, cheers.
