Here's a SURE way to get a JW ( or any other cult member) to reveal that he is actually under cult mind control. Ask them: 'Please name one doctrine espoused by your group that you Disagree with, and why?'. They WON'T be able to give an honest answer because they are REQUIRED to believe everything the cult teaches. An honest disagreement would require INDEPENDENT THOUGHT, which of course is discouraged by any cult. So, Brother Mike, can you name ONE JW doctrine or Bible interpretation that you, after much study and research, disagree with???? We are waiting......

The WTS could learn a lot from the pope.
by Simon inwho'd a thunk that the wts new age religion would have the old, stodgy, completely aloof, arrogant and out of touch leadership and the old established catholic church would have the hip, cool dude at the top totally rockin' it?!.
i'm not religious but i have to say, he seems like a great leader - down to earth, humble, sensible and not full of himself despite his position.
he used to be a bouncer, did the laundry for his underlings and generally sets an example of how people like the gb should behave ... but don't.. kudos to him for doing a great job so far.

With Pope Francis in charge of the Roman Catholic Church, it will become a lot harder for the WTS to criticize him without sounding like complete hypocrites.

Why let a janitor or window washer intimidate you? Two words ought to get results: 'GO AWAY!!!!'

I just couldn't do it...
by joyfulfader ini have recently become friends with some women who belong to a church in my area.
they are fun, great women.
one of them used to be a witness actually but it has been many years.

My recommendation is that you try attending a Unitarian church. They present all kinds of information and don't tell anyone what to believe or not believe. Plus the members are completely non- judgmental and will accept you just as you are. Personally, I have found Unitarian services very refreshing and interesting.

It's all just total nonsense to begin with. No need to worry about who may or may not be the 'king'.

The name alone would likely raise eyebrows with the elders.

Ok, now I know why you atheists get so spittin' mad at some believers.
by Julia Orwell incuz they feel like they're banging their heads against a wall.. i don't really fall into the category of atheist or believer, but i'll go where the facts lead me.
that generally leads to atheism, and is why atheists end up getting mad and therefore rude at believers: they will lay out facts, raise questions, play devil's advocate, and reason in an evidence-based, structured way.
i've seen it many times before on this forum.

Try asking a JW if all the prehistoric Neanderthals are going to be resurrected. That should give them something to 'research'. If nothing else their illogical answer will be fun to listen to.

Past-Life Regression
by Hortensia inanother long story, folks.. when i left the wtbts at the age of 30-ish, i was wide open to anything.
i had decided i might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb.
i was going to massage school, which was full of true believers of every sort from the christians through the eastern religions to the woowoo artists.

Reminds me of the time, back in 1971,when a friend in Houston who worked in a department store told a crazy story. One of the employees went out to bring back KFC for lunch for his co-workers. While eating a piece of 'chicken' a gal noticed small bits of fur in her mouth. It turned out that the 'chicken leg' was in fact a mouse that had fallen into the batter and got fried along with the chicken. My friend swore this was a true story that happened at his place of employment. Only years later did I discover it was in fact a well-known urban legend that had been making the rounds for many years.

WOW-crazy day at work. Congrats to me???
by TweetieBird insharing my wild day at work today because it is 1am and i can't sleep.. i am an assistant manager at an apartment community.
the manager has been a complete nightmare (bipolar and incompetent) so the last 10 months have been challenging to say the least.
got to work this morning and our regional was already there which was a little strange but half expected due to something that happened last week.

Choose Jah or KickRocksdk
by naazira ini had someone from the borg tell me that in order to beat the depression and suicidal thoughts all i need is to get back out in service and get to the meetings.
they said i have to make a choice to either worship jah or in so many words give in and take my life.
they recited that verse where it said to either worship jah or the other gods but as for him and his household they will serve the lord.

Seeing a licensed mental health counselor is WAY better than going out in service or attending meetings. If you are having depressive thoughts and feelings, by all means make an appointment to see a therapist. The elders at the Kingdon Hall aren't qualified to give you advice about health matters.
