I have a hunch that the so-called male proclivity to 'fix' things and to 'offer solutions' is somehow an evolutionary trait from our distant past. Like it or not, in long-ago human groups it was generally the males who hunted animals for food and built structures to live in, etc. Of course this is a generalization and certainly doesn't reflect how things are today. But it does seem that many males enjoy fixing and solving things, as opposed to just mulling the problem over without a solution. So when a man offers up a solution to a problem YOU present to him, just take it with a grain of salt. Accept it or not, that is your choice. In my opinion....opinion.....men are just wired that way as a result of evolution and cultural tradition.

Witnesses are like a "typical male"... Always trying to "fix" things or "solve" everything.
by stuckinarut2 inwe all know the cliche that "men never really listen or sympathise, they just try to solve or fix things"?.
often people just need to vent or discuss issues..."get them off their chest".
i have noticed that jws are just like a thoughtless cliched man..... when speaking with people in the community, they don't really listen, they just look for a way to solve the issue!.

Good for you for making the CHOICE to leave the JWs. In actuality, both Leaving and Staying are CHOICES a person makes. If a person is 'stuck' in the Organization, then it is because they choose to remain there. There is no greater power in Life than the power of Choice! Be an adult, take responsibility for your life and your situation, and in an instant you can CHOOSE to take a different course. It takes courage, and you must face fears and uncertainties, but the other option is to stay in a permanent rut!! Whether you decide to quit the JWs or to say, either way you are making a choice regarding how your life will proceed from that moment. Choose wisely!!

Divorcing my husband of 13 years...
by 2pink inmy husband and i were both born ins.
i left in 2009, and he followed me out a bit later.
we were one of those couples who followed the script, married young and ended up having nothing in common other than the religion.

Hopefully your husband will pay child support if there is a divorce. He is obligated legally to do so. So that will be a start right there. Plus is you can work part-time from home that could be an option. It's unlikely that very many soon-to-be-divorced Moms have things totally figured out in advance. Another option is to take a few college classes or vocational courses so as to be more marketable job-wise. Things will become clearer as the process moves along. Try to enlist a support system of friends and relatives who can be there for you as you work things out. Maybe seeing a counselor or therapist would be helpful during this stressful period to help you deal with it and sort things out. Anyway those are a few suggestions that I hope you find helpful. Wishing you all the best in this new chapter of your life.

Wow, it sounds like you and your wife are going thru a lot of emotional turmoil over this issue. From what you say, getting your wife's tubes untied sounds like a pretty major step, given her pre-existing health concerns. I can understand how disappointed you both were with your wife's pregnant friend deciding to keep her baby. But, as painful as it was, nothing precludes you and your wife from adopting a baby the traditional way, thru an adoption agency. I myself was adopted as a baby from the Gladney Center in Fort Worth, Texas. There are various adoption agencies around the country that could match you with a baby who needs a loving home. Please think this over VERY thoroughly before making a final decision. Be sure to weigh the idea of adding a third child to your family, versus just staying with the two children you already have. Maybe having a few sessions with a therapist might be worthwhile to help sort out your feelings. Whatever path you ultimately choose, I wish you and your wife all the best.

How would you answer?
by punkofnice ina friend of mine (who is waking up), recently had the elders do a sheep herding visit.. they were browbeating my friend about attending meetings.
my friend has been ill and unable to attend anyway.. what response would you give to this garbage?.
if we were in a house and it was on fire and we couldnt walk we would have to crawl.. an example of a sister with an iron lung was brought up to show that if shes in this condition, we need to examine ourselves.

Well, your friend is the one allowing this situation to continue. Why is she putting up with the Elders guilt-tripping her and asking intrusive questions? First of all, she needs to tell them she wants no more visits from them. If need be, she can use the excuse that she's unwell or depressed. Tell the Elders if they continue pestering her: 'I really am not up to having further discussions. I will contact you if I need anything from you'. End of story. So get your friend to see that SHE has the power to make the Elders go away. Just refuse to be bullied any longer. I wish her the best.

Why Jehovah's Witnesses Are Susceptible To Ponzi-Schemes and Rip-Off Artist More than the public!
by BucketShopBill inthis thread is dedicated to my friend blondie when she asked "why the pay day loan shop woman had so much access to jws".
in 1993 the jehovah's witnesses in ventura, santa barbara, san luis obispo, monterery, stanislaus, san fransisco, alemeda counties were spreading word of the miracle worker of money from san fransisco.
word traveled throughout the circuit overseers, district overseers telling everyone these brothers in san fransisco were paying 15% for "180 days loans"without any risk, most of these jws were elders and cos and dos, it was only among them the scam remained to create a "in crowd feeling" and left out non elders setting up the sheep for something special down the road!

For the most part, average JWs are rather gullible. Since they will unquestioningly believe the nonsense from the GB, that makes them easy pickings for various scam artists. Look at the 1975 debacle....so many JWs fell for that silly story hook, line and sinker. Sold homes, businesses, etc. And there is always another up-coming calendar date that sets the rank and file on fire. But what can you really expect from JWs who forego higher education just because some pompous nobodies on the GB tell them to. I have very little sympathy for adults who hand their thinking abilities over to group of uneducated fools in New York. Anyone with a lick of common sense sees the light and quits before they are harmed any further.

More absolute rubbish from the Book of Magical Thinking. It's hard to believe that in 2014 so many people fall for these make-believe fairy tales. Folks, come up to Present Time and stop obsessing about the nonsensical stories from the 2000+ year old Bible. Live in the Now, because that is all there is, ultimately. The past is long gone, the Future is yet to be.

Why are alot of JW's Fascinated with Sci-Fi?
by NoMoreHustle ini am still in & gradually fading.
i have always wondered why alot of jw's that i know are really into alot of sci-fi stuff like star wars, i robot, x-men stuff etc.
i mean they take it another level with this fantasy stuff.

JWs like Sci-Fi because they are already addicted to believing in fantasies, I.e. Jehovah, Jesus, The Annointed, The Great Crowd, the Bible, etc etc. Sci-Fi, like JW theology, is an escape from the realities of the Real World. The only difference between the two is that most Sci-Fi is at least entertaining and interesting. The JW fantasies are just warmed-over nonsense stories that are BORING and are repeated ad nauseum. So for JWs, Sci-Fi is a welcome break from theocratic tedium. Actually, for the times in which it was written, the Bible was the ultimate early form of Sci-Fi.

the flood, mammoths, elphants, and food.
by Crazyguy inmy question is since it looks as though mammoths were alive after the flood and we know elephants are then how much food was needed to feed just these four animals for the time they were on the ark.
also was the ark, 500 feet long, big enough to hold the amount of food needed for just these 4 animals.. .

The Ark Myth is a perfect example of the power of MAGICAL THINKING!! Dream up any wild story and a certain percentage of people will fall for it. The whole purpose of buying into these fantasies is THE FEAR OF DEATH!! All humans die. That is a fact of Nature. But many people refuse to believe that their death is inevitable. So they dream up Magical tales about never dying and 'living forever' under the care of a pseudo-parent Sky Daddy. That allows these people to sleep at night, I suppose. Like belief in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy, it's all a warm and fuzzy children's story designed to keep The BogeyMan away. Sort of like hiding under the covers. But folks, it's true: Death is EVERYONE'S final destination. It's the end of our lives, forever. No Magical Thinking will alter that fact. Sorry to burst the bubble.

EBOLA -why should America take the lead in handling it?
by hamsterbait inmillions have died in africa from civil wars where the governments have squandered money on bombs guns and tanks, whilst allowing millions more to die of malaria, diarrhoea and other treatable diseases.
thousands more have died in nigeria from religious killing than ebola.. and now big bad america is the one they all turn to (in mainly muslim countries) to save them, just like kuwait did in 1991.
(condemned after for their interference).

If the Ebola doesn't become airborne, and that's a big IF, some other deadly virus WILL become airborne at some future date. It's true now that this will happen. The Earth has an uncanny way of balancing out excesses. With the world headed toward ten billion people and beyond, Mother Nature WILL see to it that the population is reduced back to a sustainable level. Say what you will, but this IS going to happen. Enjoy the ride!!
