I did not had eccentric JW in my KH. Weird for sure, but not many crazies. Some of them were nice, busy with life and undogmatic, while other were extremely totalitarian. I think we were too eccentric for others, because we had always too many pets. My sibling used to bring every wild life into the house from field mices to frogs, snakes, turtle, crows, cats, and they always escaped. I think we were behind chipmunk overpopulation in the street as they got out and continued to procreate in the backyard until wildlife refuge services was called in. I know many JW were unfomfortable in our house due all these wild animals.

Eccentric Jehovah's Witnesses
by snowbird inso as not to hijack logcon's thread about crazy things jw's have said to householders, i'd like to start one about just plain old odd jw's.. for example, i knew this dear, dear senior brother who would carry a small bag of peanuts in one pocket of his suit coat and a small plastic bag of brown sugar in the other.. during that time, we would stay out all day long because the territory was extensive.. can't you just picture that precious soul alternately tossing a few peanuts/crumbs of sugar into his mouth as he schlepped from house to trailer, from trailer to house?.
the householders would usually offer us water, lemonade, kool-aid, or soda pops, so no problem with finding something to quench our thirsts.. those were the days!.
sylvia.

scotoma, I think you put one the most truthful description about the life in the WT cult. There are several issues that WT had messed up with people's life. One of them is denying people to get decent education or skills that would fullfill their life in a creative way and earn them decent living wages. People are in general creative individuals and need some fullfillment and legacy. WT believes that the fullfillment is achieved by distributing publication, by hours of field service, and number of bible studies. It also fails miserably on measurement of spiritual well being as it cannot be measured by the hours spent on field service. Many JW completely waisted their life. They have not developed necessary work ethics, do not have hobbies, and they are afraid to pursue significant intellectual and critical thinking skills because they are afraid to find errors in WT teaching. They been told that this life does not matter, because whatever happens in this world, it can be always redone after armageddon. JW still think they have second chance to live a life and they behave like this one does not matter.
As JW waste their life, they create a feeling of martyrdom as a self-justification for their misery. They see themselves as a martyr for truth because they sacrificed everything in their life to the organization, including health, family, and personal wealth. However, their sacrifice is not recognized by the organization nor fellow JWs. They do not care.

The Battle of ArmageddonÂ… LOL.
by transhuman68 ini was looking through a watchtower publication that i bought recently, and found this quote about children & armageddon:.
our theme "rearing children in divine favor" does not refer to the rearing of the children of armageddon survivors in that new world when all surrounding conditions and all forces in operation will be toward helping those who live to do righteousness.
no; but it refers to rearing children who are born now before the battle of armageddon.

I remember as a kindergarden child being told by my JW aunt (who is dead for 13 years) that I will never need to go to school in this system as Armageddon was about to happen in the 70's. Almost 40 years later...I am in mid life
I remember one retarded JW brother who year after year used to say Armageddon will happen next year or even sooner. He is now about 85-90 years old, and only end he going to see will be his. As a child I felt it was unjust for Jehova to kill all these children who were not part of JW family. I had as a child debate with elder about it and I tried to reason that many children do not have parents and are orphaned, but my elder insisted that from these children will grow wicked adult so it did not matter if they perish in Armageddon.

US Official Predicts End Of World Power Status
by metatron inhttp://blogs.wsj.com/chinarealtime/2014/03/28/americans-must-adjust-to-a-world-dominated-by-china-feds-bullard-says/.
an alliance could emerge that suddenly upsets the balance of power , making anglo-america number 2. already, the brics nations seem to be moving towards a loose alliance on many issues.
either way, things are moving in china's direction.

In human history countries, states and civilizations experience rise followed by decline and fall. USA is not exception. UK was world leading power so did other players from Roman Empire to Mongol and all became thing of the past. Croatian poet of the renaissance era, Ivan Gundulic wrote that all the past kingship of the mighty empires are plowed under the plough of time and became past. However, I would not write off USA, but its influence in the world is certainly wanned over 25 years. China experienced numerous rises and falls from Han dynasty to 19th century, and there is not set that it will maintain its leading position in the future.

Peter in Babylon? - 1 Peter 5:13
by Bobcat infor any looking over the wt study article for 3-30-2014, paragraph 9 refers to peter spending time in babylon.
the paragraph speaks of peter living in babylon as if it were a well established fact.
in fact, the only evidence for this idea is 1 peter 5:13.. see here for a writeup that analyzes 1 peter 5:13 and whether "babylon" really means the city of babylon.

The great flood happened about 13,000 years ago....

Problem with the Flood that it happened in very short geological frame, only 4200 years ago. Any even on this magnitute, and global, will be still impacting the Earth. The K-T boundary that divides the age of dinosaurs from mammals lasted several hundred thousands years and we can pinpoint it to +/-65 million of years. We know various Ice ages by the glaciation like Wurm or Wisconsin that happened tens of thousands of years ago. 4200 years is very short time, and the effect of the global flood will be still present. Yet Chinese, Egyptian civilization do not point into sudden end of their civilization. Dynasties had changed, but not entire civilization world wide had disappeared. Global Flood is nothing than myth.

Roman Empire and Parthia had rather hostile relationship in which Parthia faced a defensive role of much stronger opponent, but at least fighting on its own territory. Roman Empire had several times sacked Parthian capitals as far as Susa in present day Iran, but in general the defensive boundary between these two empires was around river Eufrates. The situation between these two powerhouses normalized during Nero; Armenia became a client kigndom of Rome and Nero was considered as a great diplomat and peacemaker in his time. It is also interested to know that Nero had huge Persian following and had several of them as advisers and mages in his court.
If Peter lived during the time of Nero, he could without problem travel between these two empires. Rome did not wage another round of wars with Parthia until the period of Five Good Emperors. I am not sure which belief is more correct, if it comes to city of Rome or province of Parthia where Babylon was located. I read both arguments. It is possible that Peter went eastwards, especially when large Jewish community existed in Parthian empire. It is also possible that he went to Rome and considered it as new round of Jewish exile following the Jewish war. However, there is issue with it because Peter suppose to die during Nero reign, and could not be aware of massive population transfers after the death of Nero and defeat of the Jewish war.
When it comes to Revelation, there are also several opinions where the book is dated in prior destruction of temple, afterwards, or it was written in two pieces and eventually put together as one book. Scholars are not unified on this opinion and we as laiks would only guess.

When my biological father passed away my JW relatives attempted to disrupt funeral for some personal reason. They attempted to proselyte others, but it did not work. My father studied around 1975, but never got baptised and returned back to Catholic faith. He eventually moved with his mother without ever divorcing. My JW relatives went into argument with the rest of the family and continued disrupting the ceremony. During that event, someone stole my father wedding ring, but only my JW family went to morgue. I still think it was them, but they always denied it. My JW aunt asked me what was my father's life policy worth at the burial site. Several years later my grandmother died and again my JW family made scene there. For some reason they occupied the first front half of the church and did everything possible to show that they do not share a faith of my granny (she was catholic). When my grandmother was carried in her coffin from the church toward the cemetery, my JW relatives just sit, while everyone stood up to show a respect. Again, my scheming, evil JW aunt said that doing that was unaccebtable to JW faith. I told them to move to the back of the church or to go outside, but it was followed by argument when my JW cousins refused to carry grandmother coffin.
When she and her husband died, I did not bother to go their funeral nor I have ever visited their gravesite.

Welcome Really. That situation resembles a bit of my family, but I talk to my parents. My other extensive site from aunt and uncles had completely shun one of their son until death and I am not sure if my cousin even know that his parents are gone as they did not speak for 20something years.
