To jnjburkett, I was born into JW organization far in Eastern Europe many decades ago. I have half family in JW cult some of them since the time of Hitler and Stalin, and I can tell you that my experience matching with these here on exJW from all over the world: it is cult. JW do not study bible with you, they study their publications that matches selective cherry picking biblical verses to support their narrow, religious views. JWs have very obscure knowledge of bible and their reading is revolving on selected chapters dealing with end of the time scenarios. Around the 1985 home based biblical studies were banned. Their knowledge of scripts and its history of various biblical stories is poor; they often avoid dealing with text that do not support their religious views. Some of them are suprised to find a text in the bible that they never heard of. When they ask about it, they are shouted out, warned with apostacy, or referred to some JW publication. The entire bible study is nothing more than indoctrination to bring you into the organization. Once you became a baptised member, you are virtually forbidden to ask questions. Only direct channel of communication with a God has the right to interpret scriptures and change doctrines at will. Ask your JWs about the origin of the original sin, will Adam and Eve resurrected, did Kain exercised a free will to kill his brother, who represents chaff, and so on.
As I had mentioned, I learned the most about OT from a rabbi. Later I studdied with Jesuit priest as one of the university course without any specific religious views. It was very refreshing. JWs are master of deception and they will not have problem to lie to you to brainwash you to the cult.
