For me it will be almost 20 years when I had drifted away. It was rather slow process to learn that I was being deceived by false religion that had not cared about well-being of its members. I am trying to remember the good part, the a few nice people that my day joyful. I am extremely upset that JW organization had torn apart my family. I cannot ever reverse the damage as some of these people who had cared but were not JW had passed away and I could tell them how correct they were. For the first time in 20 years I finally accepted past summer that JW organization had deceived and lied.

10 Years out of the JW Organization- What I've Learned ( For what it's Worth)
by flipper in10 years ago i stopped attending jehovah's witness meetings for good.
walked out of the kingdom hall cold turkey never to return based on injustices i observed among others and myself at the hands of elders giving out not god's counsel but personal opinions as counsel .
some of them weren't even giving out wt society counsel- just personal opinions.

What is your weirdest field service experience ?
by cookiemaster inmine just popped in my head and i just had to share it.
a few years ago i went with a special pioneer(and elder) at one of his studies who was a cow herder in the mountains.
obviously, even though we were going to the middle of nowhere, where no one lived, we just had to go all dressed up in nice suits and all.

I do remember some weird situations, but the funniest I had with an elder that attempted to talk to anyone regardless how appropriate or safe it was. He crossed a path of woman who was running to catch a bus carrying a cane under her arm, which she of course missed. Couple minutes later she run behind us wielding the cane above the head yelling that we caused her to miss the bus. We had disappeared in large appartment complex and I never attempted to hold anyone running for public transport.

Also you need to take into consideration that in the past era, before industrialization, the children were nothing more than free field laborer. In the 18th century France, 1/6 of children never saw their parents. They were abandoned, dumped at church door, or let strangers, relatives to take care of them. This was common for most of Europe in medieval and early modern era. Parents seldom cared about their children, they did not buy gift to them, often sexually abused them. Of course, if the parents made it to old age, they expected their offsprings to take care of them. There are tons of topics on the life and relationship within European families before the French Revolution. We often idealize the good time, but reality was bad for the children.

WHAT JW TYPES DO YOU REMEMBER IN YOUR CONG???
by ADJUSTMENTS init seems in most congregations there is always the same personality types of brothers and sisters in each congregation.
self righteous ones.
holier than thou, exemplary, with dc/ca parts every year family.

I would add that you missed mass group of edged, grayed out elderly, lonely sisters. They were full in every congregation. They lacked family to climb in social ladder in the JW organization, they were sincere in their faith and honest about their beliefs. They were like gray mouses, all sad life and constantly reminded their low social status: they were overlooked for answers, they could not initiate discussion, were not invated into any social event, and hoped that Armageddon will end their misery. As I look back, I feel very sorry for these ladies. Many sacrificed their life to the organization, never married and had children, and now they are without any social support as JW organization does not care about them.

The best feature of overlapping generations is that you can stack many of them, one after another as century after century moves 1914 into distant past!

Not, it was not fully fullfiled. Some of the portion of the prophecy correctly applies to the time of the Roman Empire and first Apostles. However, the final destruction of the Jewish settlements in Judea came 100 years after Jesus during the Third Jewish-Roman War, which resulted widespread scattering of the Jewish people throughout the Roman world. Jews were forbidden to enter Jerusalem for next 200 years. This 135 AD war was the true origin of the Jewish diaspora.

Revelation, It's Grand Climax at Hand

Cold Steel, I agree with you that the prophecy of two witnesses cannot match what WT is claiming to be (them). This is one the most far fetched doctrine that anyone with a critical thinking will reject it. Especially with the context of the time. However, I do not believe in rapture, so I cannot accept literal ascend into the heaven. Rapture is American concept invented by missionaries during the Second Awakening, and there are not even words in many European languages that could translate it (like mine).

One of the problem with Revelation is that nobody knows what part is figurative speech, and what is reality (of the 1st century or distant future). JW make the same failure as did all other Christian denomination hooked up on concept of the Revelation and trying to build their theology around it. Nobody knows what are the meaning of these two prophets. Are they real indviduals, organization, or it is figurative speech? And list goes on. However, it is almost irresponsible when JW attempted to wrestle these two prophecies on history of their organization in 1914-1919-1925. This was the last book I had studied with JW, over 20 years ago; and was a deal breaker for me to see the illogical thinking of the JW organization. When I asked how they can confirm the identity of these two witnesses to them, they gave me some brochure dealing with history of the organization before, during, and after the Great War.

The text in Revelation 17:4 throught 18:17 is applied to Rome. While it matches in many details (sits on seven hills or mountains-17:9) with this capital of the Roman Empire, it was never depopulated, or leveled. Visigoths, Vandals, and Justinian looted the city for good, but Rome never cased to be a city, it was since the late antiquity the seat of the Roman Catholic church. Therefore, the prophecy from Revelation has not yet been fullfilled and clearly Rome today does not have such far reaching power it had around 125 AD.

Hi Cold Steel,
I remember reading and studying this book in the 1990's and was certainly interesting, but I could not agree with some of the far fetched doctrines as you had pointed out:
To them, the temple is a spiritual representation; Jerusalem is Israel, which in turn is "spiritual Israel" which is to say...them.
Anyone with critical thinking skills will see this is one of the many nonsenses propagated by WT. Small isolated group of Christians in 1919-1925 unknown to the masses of millions could barely be the prophecised witnesses of the Revelation. But this is not that uncommon for JW who believe that their organization was predicted in Bible. Also it is interesting to note that JW claims that ethnic Jews are repudiated and do not hold any special relationship with God. They will insist that entire Jewish race (nation or faith) was rejected due not accepting Jesus, regardless the historical knowledge that majority of Jews lived outside Judea scattered throughout Roman and Persian empires without having whatsoever knowledge what was happening in Judea around 33 AD.
