My husband insists all the men chosen to be prophets were inperfect men. I agreed. I do not agree that what they prophacied about; said was from the word of God; could ever be wrong. He believed there are instances the prophets were mistaken, ( read: WRONG in logical speak) but never has an example for me.

I called those false prophets. He got red faced.

So anyone help me here? Any examples a JW uses as a true prophet, or anyone, that got the true channel of Gods information, message wrong but was a still a true prophet?

I keep hearing from him the bad things Daniel did, Moses etc etc, which I point out are man's failings not God's. I claim what they spoke of that were from God was never wrong, even though they were doing horrible ( man) things.

This was part of a very heated discussion today. First one in a long time. I slid back a good bit in my ability to hold my tounge when he would constantly pasively/agressivly accuse me as the reason for anything ( wrong) he did in the past years when the $h"t hit the fan due to him. I hit my limit and began saying things like " Could the Governing body ever br wrong?" He was boiling, but answered finally, YES. Then I asked is it right to follow fallible men when they can be wrong? He then blew a gasket. I knew better than to continue because I was so heated, but I coudn't help myself. :(

jwfacts.com has a list of failed prophecies by wts, stated blatantly in their literature.

This was a mind-blowing thought for me, perhaps a little too rich for your hubby just yet:

"Schweitzer, as we shall see, painted a portrait of Jesus as an apocalyptic prophet, who was certain that he was inaugurating the end of the world… and who was misguided and failed to bring about the results he expected." (Matthew 10:22-23)

Ezekiel prophecied the destruction of Tyre, which never happened:

Matthew's Gospel said that certain prophecies came to pass but the stories were created to make them look like they had. The original intent of an OT passage was distorted and misrepresented (reinterpreted) to make it look like a prophecy and that it was fulfilled in the way they explained it. Take, for example, the "virgin birth" of Isa or the myth that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, simply to make Micah out to be a prophet. (Jesus was likely born in Nazareth).

You have the option of apologizing to your JW, because YHWH doesn't have a perfect record of delivering on his promises. In fact, he has a pretty lame record of anything for a "god". That's why I've no desire to be a bible-thumper after leaving JWs.

The prophetess Huldah delived Jehovah's promise to good king Josiah that "you will certainly be gathered to your own graveyard in peace..." in 2 Kings 22:20. However, in 2 Kings 23:29, it's clear that Josiah was killed in battle. It seems that Jehovah wasn't as powerful as the Egyptian army, so YHWY couldn't keep the promise.

Josiah was followed by his son, who didn't follow Jehovah... why would he, after all. Then that pesky pharoah taxed the land and placed a king of his own choosing on the throne. When you read the OT with opened eyes, you have to ask, "Why would anybody bother worshipping YHWH? He wasn't really powerful, had a nasty temper, was very demanding, punished children because of what their parents did, etc.

Another example is the lying prophet from Bethel. There was a WT study about it several years ago:
    http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/166530/1/Billys-Comments-You-Might-Hear-at-the-10-12-08-WT-Study-MAINTAIN-LOYALTY#.UqqE7uIljcw

After that incident, worship of YHWH went on a huge decline, and why wouldn't it. Jehovah set a standard to not punish the liar, but to punish the person who listened to the liar. Sound familiar? That's a WT tactic today. They tell the false prophecies, and then when someone dares to say, "you misled me and promised I'd never grow old. Now I'm penniless, old, alone." WT responds, "Some JWs have had mistaken expectations [blah, blah, blah]", which basically means, "tough luck, sucker!"

And WT always makes a big deal about Jehu, fighting for "true worship of Jehovah." NOT. He was an opportunist that used religion to establish his own kingship. Once he was on the throne, he maintain the worship of the golden calves and never delivered on his "fight for true worship." Kinda like the GB. They talk about "true worship of Jehovah," but clearly, being a JW is more about worship of the GB.

The examples JW's use as to "justify" a false or errored message is by saying that the disciples had "wrong expectation" when they asked Christ whether he was going to restore his kingdom at the time. They also use another example about how the disciples didn't understand what Jesus meant when he said that the temple was to be restored in three days (something like that). They didn't get the full meaning until Jesus was resurrected three days later and appeared to them. It's at the bottom of the page

    it's been discussed before:

how about the false prophets in 1Kings 22, predicting

victory in JEHOVAH'S Name, and UNITY, united action between Jerusalam and the 10 northern tribes,

one of the false prophets even staging a bible drama to drive home the false prophecie's point.

The true prophet, MICAIAH jailed for contradicting the false prophets.

Even discuises did not prevent the death of the king and shame for the false prophets.

history repeats itself again and again.

Using the Name of Jehovah is not a guarantee to be a true prophet, the OUTCOME of prediction is, and

face the consequences when you fail.

The books of the bible written about (by?) the “prophets” are not written in real time. They were written AFTER all the things that happened, happened. Meaning in retrospect a person could write about a prophesy someone told and easily apply it to whatever in order to make a point. It's the genius of writing things after they happen rather then as they are happening.

Jehovah's Witnesses only have “prophetic” abilities RETROACTIVELY. They're prophecies fit only after the events have happened (1914, 1918, 1965, 1975, etc.) and with complete unprovables like “Jesus took the throne”. General world events that and basic cultural growth in human sociology like conflict, power struggles, war, etc. are used to fuel the engine while natural disasters that the earth has been experiencing since forming is the oil. But that's it. There's no meat to the situation. It's like sitting down at an expensive restaurant and being told what WAS served... an hour ago... then being handed a mint and the bill.

You don't and you shouldn't trust anyone (person or persons) who feels the need to consistently go back and retrofit proclamations to fit a storyline - any storyline, even a divine one. One should be weary of those that have the need to make proclamations to begin with (it's like the Pharisees praying in the street corner anyway).

If you are on the search for answers, the bible is riddled with riddles. If you are not, the bible is filled with interesting information. You can also see reality: And reality is way more interesting than professed answers to riddles of a book written in such a different time, for a different audience, and with a different purpose then what it is used for today.

Nostradamus who has been dead over 400 years has a better track record than Jehovah's Witnesses. He predicted the fall of the Twin Towers...

It was noted... After it happened.

every writer of the NT wrote that one needs to check and recheck what people are saying and teaching to be sure its true. Why not sugest to your mate that you guys start doing this instead of just believing what your taught. We expect others of other religions to do this concerning their religions teachings so why do we not.
