Elder and CO just dropped by....
by El_Guapo ini haven't been to a meeting in over a year, and as you know as soon as you stop attending meetings/fieldservice the "conditional" love becomes more apperant.
the coordinating elder starts off by saying how much he loves and misses me, etc.
i ask him, when was the last time you called or texted me?

I am now officially "inactive" but I still engage folk all the time - informally - speaking about and using the Bible - even following up with them. So they know I am "active" but not according to the Manual and this gets them really P---d off.
"Why dont you report the time?" the Secretary asks - "Because I dont keep track of the time - its not about the time - its about the event - the pleasure of the interchange - of hearing the other person express themselves openly" ................etc
In our household right now we are dealing with Cancer, Diabetes, Frail and bed-ridden Gran-ma and Depression and the last "shepherding call" was when the CO visited 5 months ago. The ones he schedules "cos as someone mentioned he fills in a report to the Sosatie.
I have only seen the inside of 3 of the 14 elders houses in 4 years. The only visit ie only time an elder has entered my home was with the CO. In the information age we live in - not even an SMS or E-mail - no phone calls and what we were always encouraged to do as Elders - you personally go and engage the inactive one with a visit and an invite to the meeting or out into the field.
I served as E for 15 years and enjoyed being a B+ Graded [you dont know that you get graded for DC's Talks???] DC speaker - Dramas and Manuscript talks. But I would not be able to give these new scripted 10 minute [including parroted interviews] jobs that we get fed.

Has anyone heard about Elders latest instructions re: Child abuse?

What happens if the victim needs to undergo a testing to obtain evidence eg sperm? Is there not a critical window period after which the evidence is not useful etc anymore - eg many victims tell of how they wish to shower and bath after rape to 'wash" away the dirty feeling thay are stricken with. thus if you still have to contact Mother it sould take days ......................................................after which you have sub-standard case.

Definitely localised "rulz" - Here in Africa in some locations the "native" brothers will still be in collar and tie despite it maybe being +35 Deg C.
I am currently speaking to people informally while dressed in my beach shorts and T-Shirt with my towel over my shoulders - [shock horror to the elders] but I set my own rulz wrt who/what/when I wish to speak to people about life and God and spirituality. I only carry a Bible with me in my "man-bag"
We did have a congregation in the very Calvinist / Ultra-white city of Bloemfontein which kept a wardrobe of white shirts and conservative ties in the back room so that any visiting speaker could be made to "re-dress" in order to conform with their standard.
3 years ago I was spoken to by a CO at a DC where I was giving a talk - who asked me to refrain from wearing a Pinkish shirt - he felt it carried gay overtones.

) was that it did the rounds applied to john denver, annie lennox and others.. basically, they relied on satan (oh yes) for their musical ability (i knew it) and any jws in the audience would be asked to leave because ... (drum roll) ... they blocked the signal to satan so couldn't perform with them present!.

Dont fall into the trap of the Urban Legend - the fact that it ends up growing further "legs" is what makes it abound even further - "A friend who was there told me" "I was there" " the cousin of a cousin of the wife of my husbands second sister twice removed was there and told me herself" "I was a a seance and John D told me himself" --- and then the conspiracy theory based addendums to the story -
I dont deny that there is "backward masking" but I do remember a talk at a DC in which we were urged to examine our Vinyl [those days] collections and then purge it and he quoted all these "incidents" which as it turned out later had been compiled by BA Christians and he sourced his material straight from that - and then we purged our collections based on that. All cock a pot !!
btw is it possible to check the hidden messages of CD's ?? Cant play them backwards and besides you wouldnt have much evidence off-a the digital copy.
