CHECK ALL FACTS - FIRST [Good Rule for all of us to follow eh !]
http://www.news24.com/World/News/Pope-Francis-didnt-make-pets-in-heaven-comment-20141213
Vatican City - It was a heartwarming story for legions of pet owners and animal lovers around the world.
Pope Francis, talking to a distraught boy whose pet had died, declared there was a place in heaven for the creatures we share our lives with. His comment was reported this week by many news media outside Italy, with dozens of articles in the United States. It was veritable catnip to social media.
However, it turned out the pope had not made the comment.
The news stories were apparently based on a misreading of remarks Pope Francis made at his weekly general audience at the Vatican on 26 November and on a comment that a past pope did make several decades ago.

Pope Paul VI, who died in 1978, once said, reportedly while comforting a child whose dog had died, "one day we will see our animals in the eternity of Christ."
"There is a fundamental rule in journalism. That is double-checking, and in this case it was not done," the Vatican's deputy spokesperson, Father Ciro Benedettini, said on Saturday, when asked about how the media ran with the story.
The spokesperson said he received a number of calls on the story from outside Italy on Friday and was taken by surprise because he did not recall the pope saying anything like that.
Religion News Service was among the first media to put the record straight. It said in an article published late on Friday that the error appeared to have stemmed from a piece in the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera on Nov. 27, whose headline was misleading.
The article recounted the pope's words from his general audience on 26 November, when the topic was the transformation of all creation into a new heaven and a new earth.
It cited the remark about animals and attributed it to Paul VI, but its headline said "The pope and animals. 'paradise is open to all creatures.'"The New York Times, which ran a story on Thursday about the purported comment by Francis, acknowledged its mistake, saying in a correction on Friday that it had misattributed the remark by Paul VI to the current pope.
A spokesperson for the New York Times did not immediately have any comment.
On its website, CNN also corrected its story, noting the misattribution and saying it was unclear what Francis believes about pets going to heaven. A spokesperson for CNN had no immediate comment.
Reuters did not publish a story on the remarks erroneously attributed to Francis.
What does the pope think about pets?
As for what Francis does think about animals, he has not spoken much about them in public, but Benedettini said that from the general tone of his speeches and gestures "it is clear that he is in spiritual harmony with all of creation."
The spokesperson said the pope was preparing an encyclical that will deal in part with the environment and recalled that a group that looks after stray dogs once brought the animals to his general audience and the pope was pleased.
When he made a Christmas season visit to a Rome parish last year, Francis willingly let a young girl place a lamb on his shoulders as a shepherd would carry it.
The pope once told priests that a good pastor should know not only the names of his parishioners but also the names of their dogs, Benedettini said.Recent popes have said different things about the possible spiritual side of animals.
In 1990, Pope John Paul implied that animals had souls because they too were created from the breath of God. In 2008, former Pope Benedict upset some animal lovers when he said only humans were "called to eternity."

Excusing the JW Child Abuse Scandals.
by Phizzy inmy question is prompted by a post of terry's on his own thread about a parable for jw's.
in that post terry shows how the standard jw response to any report of sex abuse within the borg is to use the "no true scotsman" fallacy.. i.e "he was not a real jw".. my question is for some time in the future, when the true, horrendous, extent of abuse within the borg is public knowledge, and the cognitive dissonance grows for jw's about this being endemic in "god's organization" for so long, how will they excuse it, or explain it, then ?.
how will they push away the obvious conclusion that jehovah must have approved of this going on, or he would have rectified it, not left it to the courts to pick up the broken pieces years later ?.

Why isn't the story of SAMPSON quickly and clearly regarded a myth?
by Terry injudges chapter 15:.
14 when he came to lehi, the philistines shouted triumphantly at meeting him.
then jehovahs spirit empowered him,+ and the ropes on his arms became like linen threads that were scorched with fire, and his fetters melted off his hands.+ 15 he now found a fresh jawbone of a male donkey; he reached out and grabbed it and struck down 1,000 men with it.+ 16 then samson said: with the jawbone of a donkeyone heap, two heaps!

are jw immigrant increasing in your area
by berrygerry ini bumped into a sister a while back, who was a law-student, immigration law.. .
at the time, i thought that it was unusual for a jw to be so open about going to uni.. after going through cdn jw court cases though, the highest percentage of cases involve foreign jw's claiming refugee status.. is this part of their growth strategy?.
africans who become jw's get strategic assistance to claim refugee status in western countries?.

Here in South Africa the biggest growth for WTS is coming from "migrants" from the countries to the north of us who have come to find the Pot-O-Gold they think exists here.
So there has been huge growth among French speaking groups eg from the DRC Congo with complete congregations being formed. Also folk from Zimbabwe [who are very well educated and articulate] and Malawi. Here too with complete native language congregations being formed. Zimbabwean and Malawian folk are highly valued in the workplace because of their positive work ethic, honesty and trustworthiness. I employ a Malawian JW housekeeper. She is a very good worker and incredible personality.
A lot of the growth within the migrant groups is due to the "promises" within the WTS message + the kinship they find with their fellow country-men. [Association/Security/Networking]
Once a migrant finds accommodation this also provides the nucleus for the rest of his family/friends to migrate as they have a place to stay. Often there are several families staying in one house/dwelling. They look after each other - which is quite understandable and if one is a JW he will of course introduce them to the inner sanctum of the congregation. Of course they also receive assistance from the rest of the congregation too. So the power of this kinship is a big drawcard and has also contributed to the +growth in JW numbers down here.
Many migrants are here on a Refugee/Asylum status or are given Temporary Work Permits. Some like the Zimbaweans apply for study permits where possible. The congregations do not make a fuss about ones residency status but you would not be appointed as MS/E if your paper work is not "legal".
I personally think WTS thrives on the migration of people all over the planet.

Definitely not!
I was invited to permit a "shepherding call" most recently via SMS.
I replied requesting the subject matter to be discussed and was told that this would only be "a visit for encouragement' [Spouse and I totally faded out 12mths now] [This was the first ever communication in all that time too]
I replied that were you to come for a Beer and a Barbie that would be cool as you guys dont even know me and have never conversed with me about our respective lives and achievements - Ever! So you hardly know me as a "sheep". I told them directly that I would not permit 'a tribunal' to take place.
I am still awaiting a "reply" - 2 weeks on !
