I agree. The suffering and servitude starts pretty quick down the pyramid.

I don't know about DO's, but the life of a CO in a poor circuit isn't that great. I have seen CO apartments that I wouldn't live in. Block walls, prob 500 square ft, and in crappy neighborhoods. That isn't the norm, but they are out there across middle america and the deep south. The free meals sometimes suck and despite the "spiritual paradise" some of the homes of the poorer dubs (where they get fed) are less than sanitary.

I know some have it good in wealthier circuits, but it's a crap shoot.

I just read the Walsh trial stuff again, so I'm fuming over the little napoleans at the top right now.

I think the point is that the GB have their

Laundry done
Meals prepared
Dry cleaning picked up and delivered
Personal driver
Lodging
Fat offices with a view
Free clothing
Red carpet treatment everywhere they go
Worship by the dubs - treated as gods
Free medical care, chiropractic care, massage, dental, etc.
Access to steam rooms , saunas, gym facilities, pools, etc.
World-class "business" travel destinations
Company Credit Card
Green handshakes
Power and Control over millions of lives
Power over Billions of dollars

Now they have to be "on" all the time. Tough to be a celebrity you know.

My main beef is this - they are constantly making decisions (doctrine, policy, etc) with a huge bias towards maintaining this lifestyle.

It's like Ray Franz said in his book. Large organizations and institutions always make decisions based on what's best for the organization or what will feed it and make it larger. The men at the top derive all their power/influence/prestige/livelihood from the organism/organization. They will always choose organization over individual. Right or wrong.

Now while that may just be "life" or typical human nature, other organizations/institutions do not claim to be the only representation of God in all the earth. They are not telling you that you deserve death for disagreeing with the biased decisions. They also do not threaten extortion through taking away your family and friends if you voice a differing opinion.

Their policies are transparently self-serving at best if not criminally sadistic.

They are crooks doubling down.

They have long long ago 'sold out'.

In their minds they have nothing to lose.

Whether they are actually deluded enough to think they are crooks for God, who knows.

I will say this though - a few billion on the asset sheet and a quick-trigger d'f policy is enough to make 8 old men ballsy.

I thought the same very thing while the study was taking place.

Where are the examples? Pretty damning accusations to have no cited references.

They simply wanted to paint with an insanely broad brush that all stories about the borg are 'bad'.

It's the equivalent of childish name-calling on a playground.

They must be scared to death about what's coming.

Misleading statements

outright lies

and

propagate untruths

and

such lies

All from the first two paragraphs describing what they say is "sometimesfeatured in the media." (italics mine)

Sounds like a damning to hell to me. Certainly doesn't sound like a mere warning about what may sometimes happen.

We had a sister yesterday comment during the watchtower lesson and say:

"...and that's why we can't believe anything in the media about the organization."

I was thnking, "Ding Ding Ding we have a winner!"

That is precisely what the GB wanted the R&F to take away from this lesson. What other conclusion could the sheeple come to with words like:

HOAXES, scams, and deception...

are the opening words of the article ! (got to love them putting HOAXES in all caps)

Can we excuse the R&F for ever ?

generally i go along with it when posters express pity and sympathy for the r&f jw's.

i feel this way toward them too, to a degree.. but where do we draw the line ?

we know that jw's do not have a conscience of their own really, they are told how to think and act, and they have to obey.. just as those living in nazi germany were told how to think and act, and had to obey.. but, " i was just following orders " was not taken as a valid defense at nuremburg.. as the wt descends in to becoming more and more like north korea in its do not question, simply obey !

Who cares which GB was worse. They both abuse authority, take advantage of people mentally, physically, emotionally, and financially.

It's like trying to decide which rapist is the least moral.

As far as the r&f blame goes, I think it is definitely a case by case situation. Some know more than others. Some are more capable of thinking for themselves than others are.

Actually when I think about some of the people in my hall, it is disgusting how the GB (of whatever flavor/time period) have convinced many simple-minded people to dedicate their entire life energy to the organization. They really believe they are pioneering for God.

Also, the fear of being ostracized is a huge deal. The leaders create an exclusive community, engender dependence by talking people into cutting off any other sources of support, and then threaten to rip it out from under them if they dare step out of line. It is truly sick and psychopathic.

It's a hard hard hard reality to face. Even harder for born-ins who have barely any connections/relationships/support/family etc. outside the org.

Imagine waking up in the Truman Show as a middle-aged person. No wonder so many get on mind-numbing drugs and bury their heads in the sand.

What is it with teens/adults and dependency on everyone else?

i've seen a lot of this lately here in the uk, where teens and young adults still depend on their parents when they live away from home.. some just don't seem able to earn enough.

some are on benefits.

some earn more than me and are in debt.

I personally believe that, generally speaking, people tend to do what they can get away with.

If kids can call up pops for a couple hundred bucks and get it, then they will probably do it again.

Parents have to say NO.

Many people are scared of confrontation these days.

I just heard a story about a pair of grandparents that feel they are being taken advantage of as the built-in babysitter. Apparently their kids drop off the grandkids almost everyday. The grandparents are now planning to move many miles away just to get away from it.

Strange us humans.

Creationism or evolution, or do I believe in god

in the past year or so i've been completely evaluating whether i believe in god.

i studied marine biology at uni for the last 3 years and it completely change my view on evolution.

even when i was in i believed in evolution to a certain extent (ie the flood made no sense, the earth being 60000 odd years old etc etc) and this has made me question the existence of god.

I agree with Terry.

I too just recently had a similiar epiphany. We were so indocrinated to believe we had all the answers, we think the world must be completely understood.

The JW religion creates an artificial black and white version of an extremely gray world.

When I first started seeing things, I had a lot of stress about not having an explanation now. Then finally it hit me. Neither does anybody else!

The GB doesn't have all the answers and nether do I. The difference is - I don't pretend I do.
