I particularly liked how the spanish version of the letter ends by encouraging continued donations, even though there isn't even a new release in spanish. Just continue to give, even though you don't even have the new bible in spanish yet.

Being Bad in the Kingdom Hall
by Funchback inwhat things did (do) you or someone you know do in the kingdom hall that was a no-no?.
i remember in the 80s when, during the meeting, three friends and i were breakdancing in the foyer.
3 out of 4 us are happily out of that organization.. as i was trudging through my fade and attending meetings, i sometimes dwelled on how much time and money i wasted during my years as a jw.

A friend I knew challenged her sister with a bet. Go to the meeting naked and I'll give you $10. Her sister, a teenager, took the bet and went to the meeting buck naked, except for her coat and boots. My friend kept hoping her sister would get asked to do a substitute talk and have to explain why she couldn't take her heavy winter coat off.

No Girls Scout Cookies for you!
by independent_tre ineven though, i was raised in a witness home, i never remember hearing that girl scout cookies were a no-no.
and even though i've only been baptized for a few years, i don't remember any specific admonishment of these sweet treats.
but recently at work a jdub coworker made it a point to remind me that jw's do not buy or eat girl scout cookies.

True story. An elder gave a talk using an illustration of GS cookies. "One person might like Thin Mints, another Trefolis" to illustrate different people, different preferences. He wasn't saying GS cookies were bad at all! He got some flak for it. Funny, that he chose GS cookies to make that illustration when he could have chosen a multitude of other ways.

Has anyone been outed by jw health care workers?
by purrpurr incarrying on from audespare thread.
i was wondering how common it is for a sinner/apostate to be outed by a babbling jw care worker?
say you went to your dr because you were pregnant and unmarried or wanting counseling for having to live a double life as a pretend jw... and a jw secretary at the drs office saw this on your file and went tattling to the elders?.

What I have heard, second/third hand, is that, after an ldc analysis of actual kh usage, the recommendation was to consolidate congregations. There is supposedly a letter soon to come that will explain the changes, fairly significant changes. Sorry I don't have more details, nor am I in a position to confirm, just passing on what I have been told by a jw whose SIL is in the know. This is US, and not just regional, but countrywide. -

GB bites off more than they can chew!
by biblexaminer inthe gb bit off more than they can chew.
they promised that the nwt revised would be available in so many languages by now, and they have failed miserably.. english stands alone.
as a result, they are in damage control mode.

It made for a most puzzling study in the non english congregations ( except for those 20 some languages which have the 2013 NWT). Para. 6: five additional instances of God's name. Nope, not in my bible. Para 10: grave instead of sheol at ecclesiastical 9:10. Nope, not in my bible, Still Sheol. Why even have this as a study article if it doesn't apply to a large majority of the audience?
Oh yeah, I get it. "Cuz we don't care!"

Child Broadcast Star is Going Home to Die.
by Slidin Fast inthe february broadcast has an item which in my view exploits a young very poorly girl.
it seems that the girl is quite a character and her faith seems to be strong.
she was baptised as a pre-pubescent innocent girl and is purported to be a regular pioneer at age 13. now read what her local paper says :-.

As of a few hours ago, she was still alive, still in ICU at Nationwide Childrens hospital in Columbus Ohio, still hoping to make the flight home to Australia, but it's looking very likely she won't make it. The money will go for their massive medical bills, if not used for the flight. -

Some thoughts on the new midweek meeting
by Saltheart Foamfollower inthe new midweek meeting has been running for a month now.
here are my thoughts on how it is going so far:.
1) elders are looking frazzled from being on virtually every meeting and having to prepare unfamiliar formats for items.

I was watching the lips of the shadow people giving the presentations (for those who haven't seen them, these people are, well, shadowy, in the dark, so you can't make out any features). They seemed to match the words being spoken, which means the presentations must be made for every language. -

The subjunctive verb tense is being used, designating a contingent or hypothetical condition. Think Fiddler on the Roof song, If I "were" a rich man. Its use is much more common in Latin based languages than English. Can anyone confirm it's still up?
Edited, oh I see berry gerryberry already addressed the verb tense. Well,I second that motion!
