How Would You Help A JW. Recognize They Do Not Have The Truth?
by minimus inevery witness says they are “ in the truth”.
that expression implies that what they say is the “truth “.
how could you help a witness understand that they clearly do not have “the truth “?.

I agree with ToesUp.
They have to come to a point where they open their eyes and say, "So I was asleep all along?".
They have to experience something that will make them do a double-take and ask, "Really?".
We can only be there to listen to them and throw some non-confrontational questions,
or just think out loud something quite trivial as being slightly tired instead of being motivated after a study, etc.
If they have even the slightest real desire for what is true, what is just, what is right, and what is kind,
somehow their heart will open up.... I hope.

Rape by Elder led to a life of sexual abuse
by Asian sister ini was raped by two brothers when i was 12 in vancouver.
one was an elder who i trusted beyond belief and the other was his 18 year old son, who i had a huge crush on.
it changed my life forever, i became a slut, sleeping with every brother i could of which there was an endless supply.

Hi Asian sister,
I'm sorry to hear about your experience early in life. While stories like this are quite a shock to me, I know that many other JWs are struggling in many many ways I cannot imagine.
I hope you get the help that you need. We are here to listen to you.
By the way, I notice that we are both from the same continent..
Warm regards,

Out of context
by Nomorejwguilt ini’m just curious to hear other people’s input on different scriptures or quotes from the society or witnesses that are used out of context.
i’ve always found it funny when a scripture is quoted and applied to whatever point they’re trying to make, but where it was taken from in the bible passage has nothing to do with what they’re getting at..

Welcome to the forum, Nomorejwguilt!
Like you I also noticed this practice of the WT organization, which is one of the things that awakened me.
If you are ready and able to do so, please feel free to share with us your story (without divulging too much info to keep your privacy). We are here to listen to you.
Warm regards

I'm not alone in the congregation, after all
by ohnightdivine ini can now say that i'm not alone to know ttatt in my congregation, after all.. i have come to know that my close friend is awake, even without me sharing the ttatt with him/her.
on one of our recent conversations i mentioned about being tired and no longer being uplifted anymore, and my friend then told me he/she was feeling the same.
i don't know how it happened but we knew we could trust each other.

Tosca,
I cannot imagine how lonely that must have been if you were in for 60 years.. I'm glad you finally found the others, too!

They are aware about the child abuse cases... and other things going on. The biggest concern for them is the "harmony" within their families.
Since this is one of the most complicated problems a JW would ever face, I think there is no sense to tell my friend what is right or wrong. He/she knows it already and may very well be just waiting until the right time to leave arrives..
Either way, to all the lurkers here, you are not alone in this journey.
Warm regards

I hoped for a very long time to find someone nearby who can relate to me.. it really makes a huge difference!
I'm here to listen to him/her through this distressing period. I also told him/her that if he/she is curious about other WT matters, info is readily available online. I won't tell which site, I won't say this forum, but I know that this friend can figure out many other things in due time. I just don't want to be the one to shove everything to him/her. We both don't want to be labelled as *you know what*.
Anyhow, I hope more people wake up to The Truth About The Truth.

How posting limits now work
by Simon inanyone who's posted on both the original site and this new one will notice that you no longer get the notice of how many posts you have left.
there are a few reasons for this.. one reason is scalability - every time you viewed a topic and got the reply at the bottom the server needed to look at your account, count the number of posts in the last 24 hours and work out what to display.
caching at various places meant this number would sometimes be wrong and there's nothing worse than posting something and it failing.. i went back to basics and thought about what the limits were for and how they could be improved to still protect the site but also give a better user experience.. limits are there for several reasons: to protect against spammers and blabbermouths.

Sorry, I might have missed this before but is there a way to delete a post/thread that I just created?
Thanks in advance, Simon.

I can now say that I'm not alone to know TTATT in my congregation, after all.
I have come to know that my close friend is awake, even without me sharing the TTATT with him/her. On one of our recent conversations I mentioned about being tired and no longer being uplifted anymore, and my friend then told me he/she was feeling the same. I don't know how it happened but we knew we could trust each other. And so we started to talk about some observations in the teachings and in the actions of the WT.
Now my friend is going through a rough period because of TTATT, more especially since majority of their family are JWs. This friend is extremely intelligent and I am happy to know that he/she has finally awakened. But the situation is tough and we both told each other that we may return to being active JWs, but he/she said that that would be possible but then the TTATT is already out.
For the sake of protecting my friend I cannot disclose much more, but I feel a great sense of relief, although I am very sorry to see him/her distressed over this realization. Last week we just spent hours talking about our observations and experiences. We talked about cognitive dissonance, etc. He/she is much smarter than I am, a good person at heart, and I hope that he/she is able to take care of him/herself esp. during this time. This friend said that he/she talked to the siblings about it and was able to gauge that they are already aware of the faults and shortcomings of the org. They are just PIMI because of the family. We promised each other that no matter what happens, we will support each other, and we will not shun each other because it is not the right thing to do.
