Congratulations! Wonderful news all around!
Emma
i often times wonder what happened to certain bethelites that i ran around with during my 1990s tenure there.
while there are still a few left there, the greater majority of them aren't there for various reasons (marriage, disillusionment, left the borg, etc).
a couple of cats i wonder about - there was one brother who i believe was from kansas, who got his fingers cut off in a printing press.
Don't know how I missed this last time around. I pioneered with Roberta Little way back in the late 60s, early 70s. I knew she'd married a much older man and was really surprised to hear she'd married at all. Must be pat 65 now. Richard Devine's family was in my KH in Detroit. He had a brother, John, at Bethel, too. Does anyone know if he's still there?
but their views on blood are just plain weird!
meat has blood in it even if it's bled.
still eating meat means consuming blood.
I always thought the teaching on blood was hypocritical. Transfusions were wrong but you could use blood in medications. No blood meant no blood! And having to believe that those nice, kind, generous folks you "preached" to were bad and deserved death.
someone told me today that at the annual meeting something was said along the lines that, we do not need to be like the boreans and search that everything is true because we know we have the truth.
can anyone confirm this?.
If this doesn't wake some of the sheeples up then nothing will.
here is the text of the letter:.
february 2, 2014. .
your brothers,.
It's a "nice" idea, but how many elders have the time or the will to follow these instructions? Even for those who are sincere, I can't imagine it won't wear off after a few weeks. They're already too busy.
my memory of singing the kingdom songs go back to when i was a child in the 1950's.
they still hold a place in my memory and my heart.
how can something that is so much a part of your childhood not stay embedded in your heart.?.
DNC, that's interesting. I loved the harmonies of those hymns, even as children my sisters and I sang with my mom (just something we did, in the car, of an evening) singing the harmonies by ear. I still love to sing and currently sing in a couple of choirs.
Thanks for the info!

Shirley, I remember them. I'd like to see a copy of that old green songbook.

I think if a writer or composer of a song left the borg their song would be expunged in the next edition. We have at least one former composer and contributer here on the board if I'm not mistaken.
so in our area, we have the circuit assemblies going on, so the "letter" about when and where our dc was delayed.
but a local elder let everyone know in their service group, and they let it out of the bag( only to have 30 comments on socal media, and only to be deleted a day later).
not a big deal, right?
I wondered if they'd bring assemblies back to Detroit. Lots of great restaurants in the area. I never liked the Silverdome because I always had small kids and it just seemed so unhealthy. Of course, no venue would be good for families.
I went to the annual conference for UUs this summer; what a difference! I'd go again. No kids at the regular sessions, but fun camp is provided for kids. And adults picked from dozens of different sessions. We were encouraged to skip sessions so we didn't get too tired! Also encouraged to dress comfortably.
good news, found on salon.com.
