we just wanted you to know that an investigative public radio program named reveal, produced by cir (center for investigative reporting) and prx, will present today, saturday, february 14th, the results of new investigations uncovering hidden stories.
in this weeks story, there will be three different topics covered.
While driving to a work meeting I was surprised to hear the announcement on NPR for this "upcoming story". Apparently it aired shortly afterward but I haven't had the chance to hear it yet.

some days ago two elders visited my sister because she has not been attending the meetings more than one year.
this time she prepared notes containing watchtower past teachings about the blood ban so as to ask them for those changes, and it seems that the elders were also prepared for her past questions.
for instance she showed them that "albumin" was considered "under scriptural ban" in 1956 (read the page 20 of awake, september 8).
"You shall not eat anything that dies of itself; you may give it to aliens residing in your towns for them to eat, or you may sell it to a foreigner. For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. "(Deut 14:21)"
So she asked why she as a jw shouldn't donate blood (to provide to the supply of blood which could potentially be used by other JWs for fractions), and the elders gave her this scripture. I don't see how their answer here addresses the question. It seems like they were arguing against themselves. This is a passage that would give the green light to donate blood. If the donated blood ends up benefitting of an "alien", no problem, according to the above "principle". If it happens to be used for a JW needing fractions, also no problem, because by their definition a fraction is not "blood". Win-win!!!

{notice how this theory has since died off} my wife was told off by an elder for giving a talk on "creative days not 24 hours" but not stating each was 6,000 years long...she said she didn't believe it....he backed off and said okay then!
When the plain meaning of the text is ruled out right away because of extra-textual considerations (anachronistic harmonisation with modern science), the search for another "true" meaning is bound to be endless...
Very true. This practice is very selectively applied.
Whoah why the hate for Isaac Newton? Actually, being an engineer, calculus is pretty darn important to me! It's the basis for formulating, understanding, and predicting how physical systems will behave. It benefits anyone that lives in a modern technological society. Not to say that someone else wouldn't have come along and figured it out eventually, but you gotta give credit where credit is due.
i just recently got a facebook page and started to look up some old jw friends (im a long time fader).
i see there pictures and comments and feel kinda jealous that they all look happy (im in a rough stage in my life).
i never was happy as a jw, and since i faded i am more comfortable in my own skin....the future looks bright for me.
It's their duty to be happy or else pretend they're happy. Especially when they're putting out a public profile like that.
But who knows, many could be happy. It's not for me to say they're not. Kind of reminds me of some work by Mark Twain I read years ago where a lady wished for her father to be happy for the rest of his life. Next day his father believed himself to be a great king surrounded by his courtiers and was a completely deluded lunatic but smiling & happy as hell for the rest of his days. Of course the daughter wasn't quite happy about that result, even though her wish did come true.
Newton discovered calculus. He was a pretty smart guy...but a bit looney too.
it's been reported on this forum that bethel speakers at this summer's conventions are asserting that the establishment of the united nations in 1945 was predicted in advance by the witnesses.
this is being presented as validation of the claim that the witnesses are god's one true organization directed by holy spirit.. .

As Samuelson started going through the history I was eager to get back and fact check the things he was saying regarding WWII. You've provided exactly what I was looking for.
And yes, I agree the drama was well done, and as I mentioned on another thread, seemed a lot like plays that are put on by evangelical churches (the overall "leaving God & partying, then coming back and repenting" theme minus the JW peculiarities).
