Home Schooling
by yxl1 inmy sister-in-law's husband was raised as a jehovahs witness in north yorkshire and was educated at home by his mother along with his 5 brothers and sisters.
i remember many years ago when it first became common knowledge, many brothers and sisters thought that this method of education was ideal for witnesses who wanted to remain separate from the world, but all the kids from our congregatation had a state education.
i guess my question is, was home education only limited to my in-laws husbands family, or were any of you educated at home?

Does Your JW Family Act Like This?
by Banshee inwell, it is district convention time again.
my mother is an active jw and faithfully attends these long, brainwashing sessions.
she and i have fairly close contact and, over the past few years, i have noticed a definite pattern in her behavior after she attends the district conventions.

New light question
by yxl1 ini was discussing with my motherinlaw last weekend the change in the 1995 "generation" doctrine, and got the usual response that it was a new light.
what started out as a little bit of fun during a long car journey actually turning into something quite sad and disturbing.
i argued that old light was obviously wrong (by their own definition), and therefore, by her reasoning she has been preaching lies.

JT, I know you're right. I've been deliberately avoiding these topics with my MIL for the last 10 years. This woman is the typical elders wife where arrogance is one of her better qualities. All this time I've kept quiet for my wife’s sake. Now she is starting on my kids and I am not going to allow this. She'll tell my children they're wrong for celebrating birthdays/xmas/easter etc (They're 5 and 3). She bought them the new WTS kiddies book, and when she baby-sits for them on a Saturday-night/Sunday morning, she is getting them to comment during the WT study, and I recently discovered she has taken them to a Witness BBQ/party WITHOUT OUR CONSENT. She's hinted that she will refuse to baby-sit her grandkids if they are not allowed to attend the meetings while in her care. These are a few of thousands of examples I could give you. Before reading your post, I was ready to go full throttle and tell her what I think about her and the Society. Unfortunately, there are other members of my wife’s family who are still JW's and my wife and kids are very close to them. I will give the matter a lot more thought before next opening my mouth. However, if or when I meet her again, I just don’t know how much longer I can restrain myself
Again, thanks for the advice thanks for listening and I assure you, your comments haven’t fallen on deaf ears.

Conversation with a non JW about JWs
by undercover ina nonjw friend asked me about my past with the jws today.
he knows that i have basically quit.
i tried to explain how i came to see that they weren't the "true religion" but it was hard to do without telling him about what the jws believe.

A young lady I work with saw me reading the posts from this website and asked if I was a jehovahs witness. I told her I was bought up as one but have since left. She explained that her neighbours were witnesses and she has recently started accepting their magazines. Later during lunch I made a point of seeking her out. I asked her if she was serious about the Dubs. She didnt know, but said they seemed such nice friendly people, and their children are so well behaved. I gave her a very brief overview of the history of dubdom which interested and worried her. I showed her a few of the posts on this site (the last being m0nk3ys life story). I gave her a few leading questions to ask the dubs when they next return. (I tried to keep the questions as innocent as possible, only using well know references such as the blood issue, Birthdays, paedophile protections etc ) I'm hoping they'll smell a rat and leave her alone, but whatever happens, she's lucky enough to have been shown both side of the coin. Its her choice now.
If things get interesting, I'll post the whole story.

If you saw a serious car accident, would you...
by JH inif you saw a serious car accident, and people were trapped in the car, or unconscious in the wreck, would you try to get them out even if the car was on fire and could explode at any moment?.
coming back from quebec city today, i saw a car or truck in the ditch upside down and with lots of smoke coming out of the wreckage.
4 or 5 cars were stopped near by to look at the accident.

by Freedomrules ini'm fairly new, so many of you don't know me.

freedomrules,
That is such a sad story. Unfortuanelty, there isnt much you or your family can do to reverse the situation. Your father has a right to ask for another judical commitee hearing, but from experience I can tell you it will be a waste of time. All I can suggest is that you sit down with your folks and tell them that you love them both and that you'll repect any course they decide to take. It is going to be espcially hard on your mother, as JW women are reknown for gosiping. You might not want to hear comments from us like "Its a good thing he's out", but before you turn away from such words, see who among your parents closest friends are willing to give a shoulder to cry on. I'll take a wild guess and say if they're JW's, then none.
