I remember a young sister from my congregation who sat there on the stage telling everyone how good, clean and spiritual she was. Little did they know she was dating a mormon. I would cover for her at work while she went back to his house for a bit of rumpy-pumpy every Saturday afternoon.

Did anyone else want to puke at assemblies?
by RoadDoctor inis it me or do others get absolutely sickened by the disgusting interviews given during circuit and district assemblies?
i mean, come on, how much more rehearsed are these little skits?
i always hated hearing everyone's "out of this world" field service experiences.

Does god need
by trinity4life inwhat did god love before he created?
does god need man to love?
god is love.

What did God love before he created?
The bible doesn’t tell us so he probably doesn’t think its important. Its not like it’s something any one of us can find out...so why bother.
Does god need man to love?
Again, the bible doesn’t tell us outright, but from what it does tell us, I'd probably answer yes. He seems to be at a loss when people do not love him. He demands it!...He kills for it! Also, he doesn't seem to hold women in very high esteem
Has God preformed the greatest act of love?
Nope. Knowing that his son would be resurrected 3 days later, does not indicate a great love. I personally think the average JW who allows his/her child to die because of man made doctrines is showing far more love for God/WTS...Misguided love, but love nonetheless
I would like to know what the Jehovah witnesses say about these questions.
Opps, Should have read the entire post before answering. I am no longer a Jehovahs Witness, so please ignore all of the above

What do they do with all that cash?
by yxl1 ini dont understand why the wts doesnt donate some of its time and resources to charity.
surely helping others in need would classify as a (the) christian act, and would bring a good witness.
imagine peoples perspective of the wts if they helped financially with high profile disasters.

what did you think ?
I really dont know what they did with their money, which is why I asked. I read Bill Bowens radio transcript on slientlambs.org where he makes the observation that money given to the WTS is used to fight court cases, but I dont think they're spending all of their cash on protecting baptised paedophiles. Even if they invest their money, its only going to make more money. So what are they spending this money on?
These brothers in charge of the accounts and their families go to the best private schools and colleges trips vacations
That might explain a few hundred grand, but I'm still miffed at where the rest of the cash is going. Again, I'm asking because this topic came up with a JW who said that ALL the cash is being spent on speading the "word". I dont believe that for a second, but I didnt have any argument against it.

What direction is the organization going in?
by Elsewhere init seems to me that they are holding fast to their legalistic views.
what will the result of this be?
i think that the result will be a more closed society.

I don’t understand why the WTS doesn’t donate some of its time and resources to charity. Surely helping others in need would classify as a (the) Christian act, and would bring a “good witness”. Imagine peoples perspective of the WTS if they helped financially with high profile disasters. The positive media coverage itself would be worth more than a million hours of door knocking. With the amount of wealth built up over the years, they would be in a position to help millions of people each year. This would raise/change their profile from being just doorknockers selling a poor mans reader’s digest. The bible is stuffed full of examples of helping others, and yet gives only a few mentions of the apostles doing “door to door” work. (Taking into account variations in translation, I think there are only 4). Preaching the “Good news” does not classify as charity, no matter how you look at it.
Which brings me onto my next point. What the hell do they do with all that cash? Someone mentioned that the WTS has an annual turnover of 1 billion dollars. I can’t imagine the GB speeding around in sports cars and living the high life of hookers, coke and champagne. All Kingdom halls are bought either by loans from the society or by the local JW community. I’ve seen the JW propaganda videos and I know for a fact they don’t spend ANY money of fashion. So what do they do with the cash? One witness I spoke to said they use it to further the “work” in poor countries, pay for Assemblies, and to pay for CO/DO living expenses. That doesn’t hold water. I’ve read many examples of entire African congregations forced into sharing a few magazines during the Watchtower study. CO’s and DO’s only get pennies from the society and again the local congregation are expected to cough up for the privilege of the visit. And if memory serves me correct, we all made donations to help fund assemblies. If anyone knows what they do with their cash, I’d like to know.

Some People Stay Witnesses Because They Don't Want To Think For Themselves
by minimus ini've come to that conclusion.
some would rather not have to think about a position, a prophecy, a requirement or a belief.
they really would rather follow the dictates of leaders of an organization.
-
yxl1
True, Some people stay witnesses because they dont want to think for themselves. But before slamming them all as braindead zombies, wouldnt it be fair to mention that some stay witnesses because they believe in it 100%? Some stay out of fear, some out of peer presure. Some out of habit, some out of laziness. Some stay because of a loved one, some stay for friendship. Some stay for their own personal power trips, and some because they would have nothing else in their lives. I could (do) go on.
Just a thought

For if YOU love those loving YOU, what reward do YOU have? Are not also the tax collectors doing the same thing? 47 And if YOU greet YOUR brothers only, what extraordinary thing are YOU doing? Are not also the people of the nations doing the same thing?
Thanks for all your hard work, Blondie. I really enjoy these threads of yours

Any talks from the hall or assembly still stick out in your mind ???
by run dont walk ini will never forget a talk at the assembly where the speaker had a 6 year old child on stage,.
and the experience went something like this.. while at school, the child said something to another schoolmate to the effect of ............................. "i cannot associate with you, because bad association spoil useful habits.".
"and if you don't serve jehovah, you will be destroyed at armageddon.".

For some reason, the only talk I can recall was the one about sexual relationships (the do's and donts) Watching this poor Elder explain why O-sex was against God while glowing deeper shades of red will always stick in my mind. I would be horrified if someone started talking about such topics infront of my kids now.
Oh, I almost forgot the always entertaining "telling off" talks on a thursday. Whenever someone within the congregation had done something "wrong", there would always be a talk about it. All you had to do was scan the brothers and sisters faces to see who was being refered to. My personal admonition talk was on the dangers of video nasties (I was caught watching the Evil Dead movie), but I'll always remember when two Elders teenage children were caught "arousing" each over. The talk was very very harsh and the elder giving the talk didnt take his eyes off the poor young sister who sat through the entire talk crying. Again, I cant believe people allow their own children to be humilated in public...Sick

THIS IS HOW TO CRUMBLE THE wtbts!!
by Special K ini was reading "run dont walks" topic on "when the governing body dies off then what happens?
" great post.. what we need to do, since there are alot of just "faded" members of the j.w.
organization here with us is this... next year, all you just faded ones, (the ones not disfellowshipped or disassociated) go to the memorial and "drink the wine and eat the unleavened bread"... .. brilliant isnt it.
-
yxl1
eat and drink them ALL
Are you mad!! Have you ever tasted that stuff. The "bread" tastes like cardboard and the wine....oh, it's too horrible to describe. How do I know? They used to hand it out after the memorial was finished to anyone stupid enough to taste it. One taste of that stuff was enough to make anyone glad they weren't part of the 144000
