Many years ago when I was first dating my wife, we had arranged to go to the cinema. Seeing as we were not allowed to be alone in a car together, we used public transport. She told me that her father, an Elder, had specifically told her that she must be home by 9pm. Seeing as the film didnt start until 8pm and the cinema was at least an hour away I suggested we go for a meal closer to home. She was having none of it and insisted we watch the film. We arrived back at her place around 10:30pm and as we walked through the door, her father came running down the stairs screaming at us. "WHAT TIME DO YOU CALL THIS?" "WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING?" etc. He then grabbed me, and started to scream in my face. Now I'm not a small man. I'd been weighttraining for years; 6foot and over 100kg. I pushed his hands away grabbed him by his nightclothes and carried him outside. Put him down gently and said that if you have a problem with me, lets short it out right here and now. He ran inside, slamming the door.

Answer to E-watchman re: Is questioning reporting time just nit-picking?
by truthseeker inhere is e-watchman's latest reply to a witness who is questoning why time has to be reported when it is not in the bible.
my reply is at the end of e-watchman's reply.
1. the wts claims it uses the bible as its "supreme authority".

Fine post. Did you get a reply back from e-watchman? I've had a good read of his site, and although it is not your usual JW type, it still uses the "questions from readers" format to back its own aurgements.
Just a quick observation, How many Elders do you know that had the "qualifications" set out in 1 Timothy? The only similarity between Elders in my congregation and what Timothy wrote are: Having only one wife, and Not being a new convert. If anything, when 1 Timothy 3: 1-7 says what elders shouldnt be, it actually DESCRIBES elders; and where it tells what they should be like, it descibes no elder I have known.
You desciption of different situations within the organization, with reference to service hours, clearly shows the absurdity of basing ones spirituality on the "number of 60 minute intervals" counted. LOL
Thanks for the research. I will be bookmarking this thread to use at a later date!

Losing my Religion
by yxl1 inive always considered myself a christian.
even before i was roped into the world of dubs at the age of 7, i attended a baptist church.
it never entered my mind that the bible wasnt gods word and that jesus was or wasnt the son of god.

Sine you reject the God of the Bible as the creator, then who is the creator? A God who only reveals through nature?
Nature is only one part of Gods word. It is the part of Gods word that we can see, but is based on his laws. The laws of physics, chemistry, math, etc etc. IMO, this is how God has reveals himself to us.
are you going to go about imagining that your ideas and comments on God are important and acurate?
The proof I have that God exists, may not be proof to another. My ideas and comments on God are important to ME and ME alone. If someone asks me, I will tell them. I'm not going to go from Door-toDoor telling people to hug trees or anything.

Did you get pissed off ALL OVER AGAIN when you also found out the bible to be fallacious?
No. I'm still angry at the Dubs, but for different reasons. I probably should be a little pissed when I came to the conclusion that the Bible was just a story book, but it just didnt seem to matter anymore. I cant really explain it, but its just not important to me anymore.
I disagree with you whole-heartedly; but isn't it cool that we can do so and still love each other and talk and be friends?
Agreed. Also, wouldnt it be a little dull if we were all the same?
The pendulum has swung from the left to the right...............where will it stop?
Never, hopefully.

What do you mean by this statement though?:
She conciders herself Christian and lives her life accordingly
Stink,
She follows the teachings of Christ, according to the NT. Prays to him, and believes in some form of afterlife.
I consider myself agnostic because I have no proof of a god of any sort.
I couldnt follow that path. To me, proof of God is all around us. The laws/rules of science prove to me of the existance of a creator.

I’ve always considered myself a Christian. Even before I was roped into the world of Dubs at the age of 7, I attended a Baptist church. It never entered my mind that the Bible wasn’t Gods word and that Jesus was or wasn’t the Son of God. Even spending 15 years as a Jehovah’s wickedness (As my Auntie used to call them) I always had respect for almost all Christian religions.
Recently I decided to question my faith. I think it was a combination of conversations on this forum, my children asking me questions about life and death and recent press announcements regarding Christianity and homosexuality. I borrowed a “proper” bible from a friend, sat down and over two months read the thing from cover to cover. Genesis to Revelations. A God of vengeance, hatred and contradiction to a God that displays no logic at all.
Strangely, for the first time in my life, God came alive. I didn’t look for this to happen, it just hit me like a hammer. All the questions I had up to this point were answered in a way that the questions no longer seemed important. And for the first time I can now say that I am no longer a Christian. If anything the bible had detracted my attention away from God. It is nothing more than supernatural mythology that has been studied, twisted and used to control and abuse. I found myself laughing out loud at some of the absurdities found within its pages.
When I told my wife of my recent thoughts, she admitted that she was a little concerned. She conciders herself Christian and lives her life accordingly. Initially I found her concern rather strange, until she asked me if I believed in God. “I’d be a stupid man not to believe in God” was my answer. I explained that I felt no reason to follow ancient mythology, their codes and writings, when God has provided us with so much more. I don’t need a rulebook to tell me what is right and wrong. That in itself is a gift from God. Look around. Look at creation. Look at the heavens at night. Look at our Children. Look at the discovery’s of science. These things say more to me about our creator than any book, any religion or any man could.
I now truly do love my God for the first time in my life. Sorry for rambling.

Yet another example of how silly the Bible is...
by Abaddon inokay, let's go along with the flood story for a moment, to the point where noah exits the ark.. here we have noah, with two of each animal and seven of the clean animals; maybe a few dozen animals that were not essential to the future survival of the species.. what does god do?.
tells noah he can eat animals now.. are you telling me an all-wise, all-knowing god isn't capable of better planning than that?
which strikes you as more likely?

I just want to point out that it's a generalization to claim that the whole bible is silly, based on individual stories therein.
Talking snake + Eve eats apple + Sins of Adam transferred to mankind + Angels and women copulate to produce giants + Noah’s flood + Jonah + Moses parts Red sea + Jesus born of a virgin + Jesus’ miracles + Jesus dying to cancel Adams sin + many many more fables = the whole bible is silly
