I've had a beard for about 8 years now. Shaved it off last summer, which amused my kids for hours. My wife thought I looked like a potato without it, and begged me to grow it back.

What is the purpose of life?
by fearnotruth22 inthings were different when you were active in the org.
meetings, talks, service, assemblies, elders meetings, congrgational duties, busy with the hope of a reward of living forever and serving god with eternity in view.
all of your efforts and goals related to being a jw, your thinking, your views, your life, your future all revolved aroung the org.. with all that aside, what are you doing now?

Prince's album "The Rainbow Children"
by Country Girl ini haven't actually listened to the cd yet.
i have always thought prince was a true musical genius (my own opinion), however i am somewhat hesitant to listen to this as it might wreck my illusions.. heheh.. .
i received my christmas present from my brother in law yesterday, and it was the prince album "the rainbow children.

Countrygirl,
Sorry to get your hopes up, but you cannot buy or order the "One Nite ALone" CD. You can only get it if you joined the NPG-online fan club. However, there is a Live album called One nite alone Live, which is a 3 CD set containing many tracks from the Album as well as a collection of older hits but with an added Jazz twinge, and its avalible on amazon. I doubt you'll find a better live album anywhere.

Anyone here ever been homeless?
by maybesbabies ini am curious, our family was homeless on and off for several years.
i am trying to communicate to my little brother that growing up this way does not preclude one from a normal life.
is anyone willing to share a story that i can pass on to him??

Not for too long. I remember when I was about 13, I told my mum I didnt want to go to the meetings anymore. She said that if I lived under her roof, I had no choice in the matter. I left home and slept rough for about a week (Mid November in the UK) but the hunger and cold got to me...and I caved in. I still havent forgiven her for that..and probably never will.

You should check out the DVD of his latest gig. During one of the tracks there is a montage of images where the cover of the New World Translation takes center stage. Gag!! I still love Prince regardless of his new faith. If you get a chance, check out the "One nite alone" CD...its abosolute magic, and not a JW-ism in sight

When you were a dub.....did you ever fall asleep when you prayed in bed?
by gumby inwell i did .....all the time.
it always bothered me that i couldn't even stay awake to thank my god.
i found out later many did the same.

Nope...never prayed. Being a teenage dub, I had more urgent things to do while laying in bed. I always felt to guilty to pray.

Nope. Never really prayed. Being a teenage boy, whenever I went to bed I had more "urgent" things to deal with. Always felt too guilty to pray after that....

Sadly, I was a teen during the 80's. IMHO, that was the worst decade for music..EVER! I 'd have rather been born during WW I and listened to marching bands than be force fed Bon Jovi and the rest of the bighaired radio friendly crap. British pop from that time period was so bad I cannot think of a word to describe it without Simon deleting this post. It wasnt until the end of the eighties that bands like Soundgarden, Nirvana, Manic street preachers, Faith no more etc became popular that I started buying current music. Up until then, I was buying stuff from the 70's. (Stevie wonder, EltonJohn, Kate Bush, Led Zep ...)
