How would you tackle the North Korean problem?
by JH inif you were the president of the us, would you confront north korea or would you try to make a deal with them to reduce tensions.. north korea warns us: we can produce six atom bombsby rupert cornwell in washington.
16 july 2003 .
the crisis over north korea's nuclear weapons programme deepened yesterday as the north claimed it had made enough plutonium for six atomic bombs, and a former us defence secretary warned that the two countries could be at war by the end of the year.. the latest claim from pyongyang was communicated to the bush administration last week, three months after north korea said it was beginning to reprocess 8,000 spent nuclear fuel rods that were under united nations seal until the un inspectors were ejected from the country at the end of 2002.. us intelligence agencies are now trying to determine whether the boast is true or merely another bluff by the reclusive stalinist regime.. either way, the declaration has pushed the us president a step nearer deciding whether to accede to north korea's demand for direct negotiations - and thus drop his previous insistence that he would never bow to "nuclear blackmail" - or to accelerate plans for a military strike against the north's nuclear installations.. that spectre was raised yesterday by william perry, defence secretary under president clinton, when he told the washington post that the bush administration was "losing control" of the situation.. mr perry is a specialist on korea who helped prepare the military action which mr clinton came close to launching against yongbyon and other key north korean sites in 1994. he now fears that the north is not only close to a nuclear test to show the world it is a nuclear power, but also that it could sell a weapon to a terrorist group for use against the us.. "the nuclear programme now under way in north korea poses an imminent danger of nuclear weapons being detonated in american cities," mr perry said, adding that he had reached that conclusion after talks with bush officials in washington, and with senior figures in china and south korea.. china, reckoned to have the greatest leverage over of kim jong il's renegade state, launched a new effort this week to draw the north into regional talks to defuse the crisis, but mr perry told the washington post that as far as he could see, the "diplomatic track is inconsequential" and going nowhere.. the korean crisis has been largely ignored as washington has focused almost exclusively on iraq.

How would you tackle the North Korean problem? I would send in a neutral Country (Switzerland?) with Korean food and farming tecnology. Distribute everything, document it on film, show it to the UN or the world via whatever sourse is available and leave. Return is a few months to see the progress or lack of and call them out to the world.... (Of course the NK government will take it all and use it to feed their Army) Begin to unite this country into one people.
Nuks? WOMD? The US does back 'terrorists'. Are the rebels in Liberia terrorists or patriots? The NK problem is the leader, he's not thinking what's right for his people. He seems to be jealous of SK and so the threat continues and if the US leaves, we leave SK to the hands of this guy who will destroy the rest of Korea as a whole......hummmmmm
(slinking back into my Happy non-Korea Place)
PS - My husband just applied for a position there............

WoMD ... so where are they?
by Simon innow, the war is over, the weapons were not used and of course have not been found.. how threatening could they be if they did not even use them when being invaded by a massive force (of the countries they hate)?!
perhaps, as many suspect, they didn't use them because they didn't have them?.
now we're being told that we'll have to be patient and give them time to find them.

So what does Blair have that Bush wants? Support? AND why has Blair become the official political sacrifical lamb for Iraq?
Was the public (world wide) lied to? Yup, in a way - why? Look at the 24 hour news day. Now we're pissed the politician are using the media for their (sometimes Right Winged) agendas? Bush did what he felt was right and used the media as a source for psychological operations against Iraq. The ends justifies the means on this one.
Besides the WoMD are in Syria, Hussain is in Iran, Saudi has always hated the U.S. and is funding the whole terrorist network, politicians are not telling the truth! The problem starts when he begins to tell the 'truth'.
Let's look at the Axis of Evil ... U.N. If they would've put their foot down in the beginning and hold Iraq to their own agreements and time frames, then many of my friends would not be in the sandbox they're in now.

And yet the 'best' time for NK to move in on SK is now, while the US is busy elsewhere. Is China supporting NK? I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to 'unite' Korea once again. Just a few thoughts....

Blue, I'm anxious to read what may be posted here since it seems like you're asking for scientific research on our personal beliefs. 'It is what it is' doesn't fit here and so I can't really answer based on fact, my degree is in History (Ancient & Europen) and I've recently started to search for 'truths' as well.
Regardless of what we all find out, keep in mind 'opinions are like A-holes, everyone's got one....and they can all give you different reasons why.' There are bias' in books, depending on the beliefs of the author, the publishing agency etc... historical 'fact' is always skewed depending on the dominate civilization (with writing skills) at that time. I can read a book refuting Darwin and another that defends him. Yet, they are both accurate.
You may want to think about placing a topic concentrating on one specific question and move on from there. Just an idea....
Disclaimer - Please note the 'opinions' quote is just a saying. I do not mean that in any type of derogatory way towards opinons or a-holes.

The more I read here, the more that I feel confident when approached by practicing JWs regarding their 'latest literature' etc. - if I can get them to think, if begrudgingly, then I'll be glad.
Great Point Razor! I'm right there withya. Everyone has their own way of expressing their displeasure with the Society. So take what you can from the thread and use it your own way. Insulting what someone has / or hasn't done doesn't change the situation. Maybe things could have been done differently, but they weren't. Make a recommendation thread and take it from there.

I vote for Canadian Beer! However Mexico does have an excellent dark beer Negro Moldero (sp?) and the winters are much nicer there. Yet Canada is only 2 years behind the US whereas Mexico is 9
As for NK, let's not forget China is right behind them. Giving them food and forgetaboutit plan doesn't work. We've 'fought' NK in simulated combat (US Army III Corps Warfighters training exercises in Ft. Hood - mid 90's) and have our %$#'s handed to us. All Big Brother China has to do is send in their Army. We're toast at that point and it really doesn't matter about the nukes only because it's more expensive to clean up and de-contaminate than other bombs. Let's face it - the only reason we have bases in SK and Japan is to keep China in check.
