the crisis over north korea's nuclear weapons programme deepened yesterday as the north claimed it had made enough plutonium for six atomic bombs, and a former us defence secretary warned that the two countries could be at war by the end of the year.. the latest claim from pyongyang was communicated to the bush administration last week, three months after north korea said it was beginning to reprocess 8,000 spent nuclear fuel rods that were under united nations seal until the un inspectors were ejected from the country at the end of 2002.. us intelligence agencies are now trying to determine whether the boast is true or merely another bluff by the reclusive stalinist regime.. either way, the declaration has pushed the us president a step nearer deciding whether to accede to north korea's demand for direct negotiations - and thus drop his previous insistence that he would never bow to "nuclear blackmail" - or to accelerate plans for a military strike against the north's nuclear installations.. that spectre was raised yesterday by william perry, defence secretary under president clinton, when he told the washington post that the bush administration was "losing control" of the situation.. mr perry is a specialist on korea who helped prepare the military action which mr clinton came close to launching against yongbyon and other key north korean sites in 1994. he now fears that the north is not only close to a nuclear test to show the world it is a nuclear power, but also that it could sell a weapon to a terrorist group for use against the us.. "the nuclear programme now under way in north korea poses an imminent danger of nuclear weapons being detonated in american cities," mr perry said, adding that he had reached that conclusion after talks with bush officials in washington, and with senior figures in china and south korea.. china, reckoned to have the greatest leverage over of kim jong il's renegade state, launched a new effort this week to draw the north into regional talks to defuse the crisis, but mr perry told the washington post that as far as he could see, the "diplomatic track is inconsequential" and going nowhere.. the korean crisis has been largely ignored as washington has focused almost exclusively on iraq.

As for NK, let's not forget China is right behind them. Giving them food and forgetaboutit plan doesn't work. We've 'fought' NK in simulated combat (US Army III Corps Warfighters training exercises in Ft. Hood - mid 90's) and have our %$#'s handed to us. All Big Brother China has to do is send in their Army. We're toast at that point and it really doesn't matter about the nukes only because it's more expensive to clean up and de-contaminate than other bombs. Let's face it - the only reason we have bases in SK and Japan is to keep China in check.

i remember during the run up to election in 2000 watching the bush vs. gore debates and thinking..i know gore is smarter but he comes across as weaker in debate.

Bush is only making up lost time. Clinton spent his years bending over backwards to every nation he could. I say send us Gore and we'll defeat him again and again.

apparently a new report about 9/11 is coming out in which the us admits to errors in it's previous findings, and sets it's sights on saudi arabia as a factor in the attacks.. so lets just recap the last couple of years.... first it was afganistan's fault.
invade.. then iraq was somehow involved, even though there was no proof.
Been to Saudi and I have a hard time believing they're 'being set-up' for something they didn't do. Sure they hate us being in their country for yeaars, however they've been making a MINT from the US gov from car rentals to villas to house the international troops. The prices for everything there is so jacked up for the gov. and yet we're protecting their skies.... go figure.

Tammy - Excellent POST! I just went ont he Watchtower.org site and they don't have an interactive message board... hummmmmmmmmm I wonder why? Media attention is ALWAYS a good way to get their attention. A simple media campaign (local news ie: local Christian Group harassing citizens esp. if there's a group of you in the same area with the same problem) may blow their intentions off the map. I've worked in PR for the military for 9 years and have seen stuff like this spin all around.

Sigh...Rebel....I'm so sorry the JC wasn't what you expected. I was in the chat when you announced it and know you still have family. This must make life difficult for you all. It's always easier to remember the bad, but try not to and keep in mind how STRONG you really are. You faced them and will never ever have to do that again. This is a man's religion, full of holes. i've only learned the truth about this society over the last 5 months or so, so i'm not sure what the difference is to say - 2 years ago.
do you think the society will now get even more cultish in it's methods of teaching and more heavy handed if they feel things are slipping?
i don't feel i'm being over the top here because i've experienced very heavy handed talks at the assemblies and kingdom hall in the past that are just plain scare tactics but this just makes people ask more questions ??

Maybe the biggest way to counteract the JW is to educate the public. Honestly, many people think JW's are harmless people who dress alike and enjoy studying the Bible. Just because they aren't wearing sheets and handing out flowers at the airport doesn't make them a cult. However there are VERY few ministers and laypersons willing to educate themselves on this group, which is a huge dis-service to the population as a whole. Sorry for the babbling........
coming at this as a householder rather than an ex-jw, i'd love to hear from any of you about comments from householders that made an impression on you, back when you were active in the door-to-door work.
since the jw's first knocked at my door 13 years ago, i've done my best to give them something to think about every time they knock at my door.
i always introduce myself by name and try to get their names.
ALL - Keep it coming! Living in the military, I've basically been on a Fort or Base for the past 8 years and in a way can't wait to see who comes knocking on my door. My parents usually give me their best lines Trinity, woe's, the Cross, worldly aspirations etc...(which were all just fine for them before retiring from their jobs and 'finding the truth') 2300?
